General Intent
This document is intended to provide a complete, step by step procedure for installing and configuring the
software necessary for a Windows 2003 R2 Server to function as a production field HMI server. As there are
exceptions to every rule, the instructions provided herein are intended as a general rule and are not intended to
cover every possible circumstance. Additionally, this document is not intended as a troubleshooting guide but as
an install guide and will only cover the most basic of troubleshooting steps during server and software
installation.

iDrac Login
Username: root
Password: The default password is calvin, but the password is modified to use the standard password during
the setup process
The iDrac is accessed through a web browser. Once the web browser is open, type http:// and the IP address
of the iDrac
Example: http://10.222.60.228 is how you would access the iDrac on Colton South’s primary HMI server.
VMware ESXi
The OS installed in the server is VMware ESXI on the server. This OS ‘hosts’ the Windows Server 2003 images.
The vSphere Client is used to manage this OS.
The vSphere client needs the IP address, management username and management password to connect.
vSphere Login
Username: root
Password: The default password is blank, but the password is modified to use the standard password during
the setup process
1. Pacific Region - this is the name of the region we support and will never change.
2. Windows Terminal Sever - this is the function of the server. Unless you are setting up a specialized server
(e.g. SQL Server), this will not change
3. Site Code - this is a two-letter abbreviation that is the code for the site. This will vary based on the site
you are working on, but it will always be 2 characters
4. Server Number - this is a designator for the server’s place in the hierarchy of the site. The primary server
has a server number of 1, and the backup server has a server number of 2.
Example:
PRWTSCL1 - Pacific Region Windows Terminal Server Colton Primary HMI Server
PRWTSCL2 - Pacific Region Windows Terminal Server Colton Backup HMI Server
PR VMS XX Y
Pacific Region Virtual Management Server Site Code Server Number
1. Pacific Region - this is the name of the region we support and will never change.
2. Virtual Management Sever - this is the function of the server and will not change
The VMS Name also has the full domain path appended to it. The domain path is
.scadakme.kindermorgan.com.
Example
PRVMSCL1.scadakme.kindermorgan.com - VMS Name for Colton Primary.
PRVMSCL2.scadakme.kindermorgan.com - VMS Name for Colton Backup.
IP Structure
Kinder Morgan has established a baseline standard for IP addresses to make configuring a network device a
bit easier. This standard should never be deviated from.
2. Subnet - There are 3 network subnets that are used in the field. They are listed below:
a. SFPP Frame Network 222
b. SFPP VSAT Network 111
c. Calnev Network 215
3. Site - each site has a unique identifier, this will be the same for all devices at a given site, but each
site has a different code. (e.g. Colton is 60, HQ is 99)
4. Device ID - this is a unique identifier for each device on a given site. There are a few device ID’s that
are standard and may not be used for any other device.
a. 28 - Primary HMI Server Windows IP
b. 128 - Primary HMI Server Infrastructure (vSphere) IP
c. 228 - Primary HMI Server Remote Access (iDrac) IP
d. 113 - 1st TMS Moxa
e. 115 - 1st TNIU
f. 131 - 1st Thin Client
g. 173 - 1st PLC
The default gateway for a site has the same first 3 octets as the IP address with the 4th octet being 1. An
exception to this can be found at the Mission Valley Disaster Recovery facility, where the 4th octet is 254.
Example:
10.222.60.1 Default Gateway
10.222.60.28 Primary HMI Server at Colton South Windows IP
10.222.60.29 Backup HMI Server at Colton South Windows IP
10.222.60.128 Primary HMI Server at Colton South Infrastructure (vSphere) IP
10.222.60.129 Backup HMI Server at Colton South Infrastructure (vSphere) IP
10.222.60.228 Primary HMI Server at Colton South Remote Access (iDrac) IP
10.222.60.229 Backup HMI Server at Colton South Remote Access (iDrac) IP
255.255.255.0 Subnet Mask
The password for this account is the same as the iDrac and vSphere password
Example: LocOpsCL is the local account for Colton and has a password of PRCL222.60.
1. Pacific Region - this is the name of the region we support and will never change. It will be in capital
letters
2. Site Code - this is a two-letter abbreviation that is the code for the site. This will vary based on the site
you are working on, but it will always be 2 characters and will always be in capital letters.
3. IP Subnet - There are 3 network subnets that are used in the field. They are listed below:
a. SFPP Frame Network 222
b. SFPP VSAT Network 111
c. Calnev Network 215
4. Period - the period (.) character. This will not change from site to site.
5. IP Site - each site has a unique identifier, this will be the same for all devices at a given site, but each site
has a different code. (e.g. Colton is 60, HQ is 99)
Example:
PRCL222.60 - the password for Colton
PRHQ222.99 - the password for Servers at ORCC
