The Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), also known as t he Loki Cinematic Universe or
Lokiverse , is an Indian media franchise and shared universe of Tamil-language act ion t hriller films
creat ed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.[a] It is current ly t he highest grossing Tamil film franchise.[6]

Naming

Though t he name "Lokesh Cinemat ic Universe" was coined by fans, post t he release of Vikram, he
accept ed it as t he official name of t he universe.[12][13] Ot her names for t he franchise include t he Loki
Cinemat ic Universe and Lokiverse, as Loki is his nickname.[14][15]

In-franchise connections

Narain and George Maryan are t he only act ors who have reprised t heir roles in significant capacit ies
across mult iple films wit hin t he universe.[16][17] Kart hi and Kamal Haasan have made voice-only cameo
appearances, reprising t heir roles as Dilli in Vikram and Vikram in Leo, respect ively.[18][17]

Aft er a drug bust of 900 kgs of cocaine belonging t o drug peddlers Adaikalam and Anbu in Trichy,
Inspect or Bejoy faces a dire sit uat ion when several cops are poisoned at a part y by a corrupt cop in
an at t empt t o recover t he loot and kill t he officers involved in t he bust . To t hwart t he gang, Bejoy
blackmails ex-convict Dilli int o assist ing him by t hreat ening t o prevent him from meet ing his 10-year-
old daught er for t he first t ime. Toget her, t hey embark on a mission t o t ransport t he poisoned cops
t o t he hospit al and prevent Anbu's gang from get t ing t heir hands on t he bust ed drugs. Their journey
is fraught wit h danger as t hey cont inuously evade pursuing gang members, who receive support from
a corrupt narcot ics official, St ephen Raj.

Vikram (2022)

Amar, a black ops agent , is assigned t o invest igat e a series of murders commit t ed by a masked
group of vigilant es. Their vict ims include high-ranking officials from t he narcot ics depart ment like
St ephen Raj and ACP Prabhanjan[c], and Prabhanjan's seemingly harmless fost er fat her, Karnan. As
Amar delves deeper int o t he case, a t angled web of clues leads him t o t he mast ermind behind t he
murders, a drug kingpin named Sandhanam, who cont rols t he largest drug syndicat e in Chennai.
However, a surprising t wist reveals t hat Karnan is, in fact , alive and is former Black Ops Commander
Vikram, who leads t he group of vigilant es, t hat now includes Bejoy. In t he face of t his revelat ion,
Vikram, Amar, and Bejoy unit e t heir effort s t o t ake down Sandhanam's powerful drug syndicat e.

The second inst allment in t he LCU st ars Kamal Haasan, Vijay Set hupat hi and Fahadh Faasil wit h
Kalidas Jayaram, Narain and Chemban Vinod Jose in support ing roles. Suriya made his first appearance
in t he LCU in a cameo role as Rolex. The film is a spirit ual successor of Vikram (1986).[19][1][4][20]

Leo (2023)

Part hiban, a café owner and animal rescuer in Theog, becomes a local hero aft er t hwart ing a group
of robbers in his café. This draws t he at t ent ion of gangst ers Ant ony and Harold Das, who suspect
him t o be Ant ony's est ranged son, Leo Das. Part hiban denies having any connect ion t o t hem but t hey
cont inue t o hound him, and he t akes mat t ers int o his own hands by eliminat ing bot h Ant ony and
Harold and dest roying t heir dat ura fact ory aft er confessing t hat he is Leo having left his past life
behind. Following t his, Vikram, knowing Part hi's ident it y as Leo, invit es him t o join forces in creat ing a
drug-free societ y in India, while suggest ing a myst erious connect ion bet ween t hem from t heir
past .[d]

The t hird inst allment in LCU st ars Vijay in t he t it le role, alongside Trisha, Sanjay Dut t , Arjun Sarja,
Gaut ham Vasudev Menon, Priya Anand and Madonna Sebast ian wit h George Maryan as Napoleon and
a voice-over cameo by Kamal Haasan as Agent Vikram. It is based on 2005 film A History of Violence,
which it self was an adapt at ion of t he graphic novel of t he same name.

Leo emerged as t he highest grossing LCU film of all t ime, t he highest -grossing Tamil film of 2023,
t he fift h highest -grossing Indian film of 2023, t he highest -grossing Tamil film overseas and t he
highest -grossing film in Tamil Nadu.
Future

Kaithi 2 (TBA)

As implied at t he end of Kaithi, Lokesh had planned for a sequel, which he confirmed aft er it s
release.[21] In an int erview wit h Subha J Rao t o Firstpost, Lokesh conveyed his int erest in developing
t he film int o a franchise, st at ing t hat he had an idea for bot h t he prequel and t he sequel, which
depends on t he recurring schedules of t he cast members. In May 2021, t he film's producer, S. R.
Prabhu, confirmed t hat t he sequel was in t he works.[22]

Kaithi 2 is int ended t o be a prequel for Dilli, focusing on his charact er. Lat er, in an int eract ion wit h
fans t hrough Twit t er, Lokesh explained about Anbu's ret urn in Vikram as he was knocked out and not
dead, alt hough he had st it ch marks in his jaw due t o his injuries.[23]

Following t he success of Vikram, Lokesh planned t o expand t he scale of t he sequel,[4] wit h S. R.

Prabhu admit t ing t hat it would be bigger t han t he first film.[24] Product ion of t he film was expect ed
t o begin in t he second quart er of 2022 but was delayed as Lokesh int ended t o resume t he project
aft er complet ing Leo and a film wit h Rajinikant h lat er t it led Coolie t hat would not be t he part of t he
LCU .[25]

Leo 2 (TBA)

In early August , report s surfaced indicat ing t hat t he film would receive a sequel, marking Vijay's first
vent ure int o a sequel project . [26][27] In December 2023, Lokesh confirmed t he project , Leo 2, and
t hat he would begin work on it aft er fulfilling his commit ment s t o Thalaivar 171 and Kaithi 2.[28]

Vikram 2 (TBA)

Due t o t he film's remarkable success, Kamal Haasan, in an int erview wit h Pinkvilla, expressed t he
pot ent ial for a sequel t o Vikram. Addit ionally, t here were report s indicat ing t he development of a
t hird inst allment in t he Vikram series.[29][30][31]

Rolex spin-off (TBA)

In August 2023, Suriya revealed t hat a spin-off cent ered around his charact er Rolex from Vikram is
being planned. [32]

Music

Anirudh has composed t he soundt racks and film scores of t he LCU films under t he label of Sony
Music, except for Kaithi which was composed by Sam CS.[33]
Theme music

Lokiverse serves as t he t heme music for t he franchise. It has t wo versions. The original version was
feat ured in Vikram (2022),[34][35] while t he second version was feat ured in Leo (2023).[36] The second
version t it led "Lokiverse 2.0" connect ed t he element s of t he franchise bet ween t he first t hree
inst allment s: Kaithi (2019), Vikram (2022) and Leo (2023).[37]
