About Event
On 27nd July 2024 , a social service event organised by NSS took place at the Devabelakere
Dam, Devabelakere Near Davangere and Krushi Honda, Sondekola Near Chitradurga. The
event focused on Developing Sustainable water Management System . 1st day we visited dam
and see how they constructed to store the water and on next day wevisited krushi Honda.
Krushi Honda refers to a system or structure used by farmers to store water on their land for
irrigation purposes, Governments often provide financial assistance, subsidies, and technical
support to encourage farmers to adopt water storage systems.
Developing a sustainable water management system is crucial for ensuring the long-term
availability and quality of water resources. The goals and objectives of such a system typically
include:
Goals:
1. Ensure Water Availability: Guarantee a continuous supply of water to meet the needs
of all users, including households, agriculture, industry, and ecosystems.
2. Promote Water Efficiency: Encourage efficient use of water resources to reduce waste
and conserve supply.
3. Protect Water Quality: Safeguard water bodies from pollution and contamination to
maintain the health of ecosystems and human populations.
4. Enhance Resilience: Develop systems and practices that can withstand and adapt to
climate change, population growth, and other stressors.
5. Support Sustainable Development: Align water management practices with broader
sustainable development goals, ensuring that water resources support economic growth,
social equity, and environmental protection.
Objectives:
By achieving these goals and objectives, a sustainable water management system can help
ensure that water resources are managed in a way that meets current needs without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
The image represents a circular water management framework, which is a sustainable approach
to managing water resources by optimizing the use and reuse of water within a closed-loop
system. This approach emphasizes minimizing waste and maximizing resource efficiency.
The circular water management model integrates these five principles to create a sustainable
water management system. By closing the loop on water use, it aims to reduce the
environmental impact of water consumption, enhance resource efficiency, and ensure the long-
term availability of water resources.
In essence, circular water management seeks to treat water not as a disposable commodity but
as a valuable resource that can be reused, recycled, and restored, ensuring its sustainability
for future generations. This approach aligns with broader goals of sustainable development,
environmental conservation, and resource efficiency.
CONCLUSION
Developing a sustainable water management system is essential for ensuring the long-term
availability and quality of water resources. By adopting a holistic and integrated approach, such
systems can address the diverse and interconnected challenges of water management, including
scarcity, pollution, and climate change. The key components of a sustainable water
management system include reducing water losses, reusing and recycling water, restoring water
quality, and recovering valuable resources from wastewater.
