1. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is an intergovernmental organization (IGO) that it’s duties and works is
to reduce poverty, encourage trade, and promote economic stability and growth within its member countries.
It’s function is to oversee economic development through surveillance and policy advice, as well as providing financial
assistance to members with balance of payment problems. The IMF also provides technical assistance to help members
increase economic stability and meet sustainable development goals. This can include technical advising, updating
banking and financial systems, and more.
2. The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the body that keeps global trade running smoothly. It oversees the rules
and mediates disputes among its member nations.
The main function of the organization is to help producers of goods and services, as well as exporters and importers,
protect and manage their businesses.
WHO’s core functions into three categories: (1) normative functions, including international conventions and
agreements, regulations and non-binding standards and recommendations; (2) directing and coordinating functions,
including its health for all, poverty and health, and essential medicine activities and its specific disease programs; (3)
research and technical cooperation functions,12 including disease eradication and emergencies.
4. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an international organisation that
works to build better policies for better lives. Their goal is to shape policies that foster prosperity, equality,
opportunity and well-being for all.
From improving economic performance and creating jobs to fostering strong education and fighting international tax
evasion.
5. The International Labor Organization (ILO) is devoted to promoting social justice and internationally recognized
human and labour rights, pursuing its founding mission that labour peace is essential to prosperity.
They promote and realize standards and fundamental principles and rights at work, create greater opportunities for
women and men to decent employment and income, enhance the coverage and effectiveness of social protection for all,
and strengthen tripartism and social dialogue.
6. FAO: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations focus on achieving food security for all is at the
heart of FAO’s efforts – to make sure people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active,
healthy lives.
It’s functions is to help eliminate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition, make agriculture more productive and
sustainable, reduce rural poverty, ensure inclusive and efficient agricultural and food systems, protect livelihoods from
disasters.
The ICAO’s activities have included establishing and reviewing international technical standards for aircraft operation
and design, crash investigation, the licensing of personnel, telecommunications, meteorology, air navigation equipment,
ground facilities for air transport, and search-and-rescue missions. The organization also promotes regional and
international agreements aimed at liberalizing aviation markets, helps to establish legal standards to ensure that the
growth of aviation does not compromise safety, and encourages the development of other aspects of international
aviation law.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a United Nations specialized agency that regulates shipping
and matters related to shipping.
It’s functions was to develop and maintain a thorough regulatory framework for shipping, looking after the safety and
security of ships, administering environmental concerns related to shipping, handling legal matters for maritime cases,
provision of technical cooperation and to improve the overall efficiency of shipping.
ITU is the intergovernmental body responsible for coordinating the shared global use of the radio spectrum, promoting
international cooperation in assigning satellite orbits, improving communication infrastructure in the developing world,
and establishing the worldwide standards that foster seamless interconnection of a vast range of communications
systems.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is the global forum for intellectual property policy,
services, information and cooperation.
Functions of WIPO is to harmonize national intellectual property legislation and procedures, provide serices for
international applications for industrial property rights, exchange intellectual property information, provide legal and
technical assistance to developing and other countries, facilitate the resolution of private intellectual property disputes.
