Foreword
ACE Lines is a collection of 30 musical phrases (lines) that I played throughout the
various songs on my debut album ACE. The majority of the songs on ACE were
recorded live in the studio, and all of the lines were improvised by me at the time they
were originally played/recorded.
I wanted to present a collection of lines that could give some insight into my thought
process while improvising. All of the phrases have been transcribed by me personally -
including the TAB, which I hope gives some additional insight into my left-hand
fingerings.
Also - the accompanying video features each line played at the original tempo, and also
at half of the original speed (50%). Several examples of the more melody-oriented lines
were slowed down to only 75% speed (as 50% felt a little too slow in these instances).
The lines/phrases played at 75% speed are noted throughout this book.

“Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers”
In this instance in the ballad “Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers”, we’re going to begin by looking at
a short phrase beginning at 1:51. The linear idea presented in Bar 1 over F#7 can be applied to
any dominant chord - whether resolving to a Major or Minor I (i) Chord. In this case, we see it
resolve to a B Minor (Bm11) chord.
