I.Features of the structures:
The casing slips are designed and manufactured in API Spec 7K and SY/T
5049 Slips for Well Drilling. It is manufactured in a structure of multi -segment
pieces with firm structure, light weight and large holding range, which is easy to fit
the changing of the external diameter of the casing pipes due to wear and tear.

IV.Operational requirement and points for attention:

1) It is necessary to measure the actual external diameter of the casing to see whether it is in the holding
range of the casing slips before using.
2) Whether the hinge pin is rotated smoothly and whether there is any blocks
or not should be checked before operation.
3) Knocking the handle and the back cone of the slips with big hammer is
strictly forbidden, and be sure do not drop the slips from higher position to avoid
any damage to the handle and cone surface.
4) The surface of the casing slips should be kept clean by daily cleaning and
the rotary part and back cone should be coated with lubrication oil against rusty.
5) Periodic inspection should be done for the casing slips:
a) Check whether the fixing bolt of the casing slip inserts are loosed or not in
order to avoid the slip inserts dropping to the well.

2
b) Check whether the casing slip inserts brunt or not.
c) Checking with ruler to see whether the back cone of the casing slips is
worn or not.
d) Checking the hinge pin's condition of the casing slips, to see whether it is
worn or not.
6) The casing slip inserts should be replaced entirely in time once found it is
worn out. Be careful do not use the old inserts with the new one at the same time in
order to avoid damages to the slips body due to concentrated load.
7) Remove the harden granules away from the slips cone surface to reduce the
weariness on the cone surface.
8) Often check the wear condition of the casing slips cone surface in order to
avoid dropping into the well.
9) When the casing slips are not in use for a long time, the slips should be
cleaned and coated with anti-rustic oil and placed in a dry place with good
ventilation.
10) The back cone can not be repaired for further using once it is seriously
worn out. This factory is not responsible for any accident caused by the fact that
the slips holding quality is affected by the self-repairing of the old back cone.
11) The minimum operating temperature of the slip is -20℃ unless otherwise
additionally required.

V.Slip Wear Data

1) Check the inserts are dull or not.
The slip inserts shall be totally replaced when they are dull. Do not use new inserts
together with worn ones to avoid any more damage to slip segments, slip inserts
and pipes. Besides, take care of the tooth direction when replacing new inserts.
2) Regularly check the worn degree of cone surface of each slip segment with
rulers as Pic (1). Replace the slips in time as the worn degree to avoid any
accident.

PIC (1)
3
3)Test the slips once two months. Put the slip into a new master bushing for test.
To get the accurate test result, the test load shall be at least 100,000lb (45,360kg).
a. Choose one section of pipe without tooth marking and clean it;
Clean the inserts by a metal brush.
b. Wrap the test paper on the cleaned section of pipe layer by layer.
c. Grip the pipes and put the slip into the master bushing slowly.
d. After loaded, keep the slip clamping the pipe while hoisting the pipe, then move
away the slip. Do not damage the test paper.

Decide replacing the slip or not by judging the tooth marking on the test paper of
second layer.

PIC(2) PIC(3)
If the tooth marking on test paper is clear and complete as Pic (2), both inserts and
slip are in good condition. There is no need to replace it. If the tooth marking is
incomplete as Pic (3), one more test is necessary. The inserts or slip shall be
replaced when the incomplete tooth marking appear again in the second test.
