Answer the following questions.
Q1. What is a computer?

Ans. A computer is an electronic machine that helps us to do many kinds of work.

Q2. In how many ways we can use computer in our daily life? Enlist them.

Ans. We can use computer to perform various tasks. Which are given below:

❖ Playing computer games.


❖ Writing.
❖ Solving math problems.
❖ Watching TV and movies.
❖ Listening to music.
❖ Communicating with other people.
❖ Sending e-mail.
❖ Using the Internet.
Q3. How many main parts are there of computer? Name them.

Ans. There are two main parts of computer i.e. Hardware and software.

Q4. Define Hardware?

Ans. Hardware refers to the physical parts of a computer. Keyboard, mouse, monitor, speaker,
printer etc.

Q5. On the basis of tasks in how many groups the hardware is divided?

Ans. on the basis of tasks hardware is divided into four groups. Which are:

❖ Processor
❖ Primary storage device
❖ Secondary storage device
❖ Other hardware devices.
Q6. Define processor?

Ans. Processor is an electronic chip that controls all the tasks running on computer. It is a
hardware device. Which sends signals to other parts of computer and make calculations.its is also
called brain of computer.

Q7. What are primary storage devices?

Ans. The internal storage devices are called primary storage devices known as RAM (Random
Access Memory).

Q8. Define RAM?

Ans. RAM stands for Random Access Memory is a type of computer which is used by CPU to
store data for a short time. It stores data temporarily. It’s mean that the data is erased when
computer turns off.

Q9. Define the term Secondary storage device?

Ans. Like primary storage device we can store data on secondary storage devices. It can store
large amount of data permanently. For example, hard drives, portable flash drives, CDs, and
DVDs are secondary storage devices.

Q10. How the input devices are different from output devices?

Ans. The input devices are used to communicate with computer such as keyboard, mouse,
microphone etc. the hardware devices are used to show output i.e. monitor, speaker, printer etc.

Q11. Define Software?

Ans. Software is a set of programs that helps hardware to perform tasks. We can not touch
computer software. Without software hardware can’t do anything.

Q12. How many types of software are there?

Ans. There are two types of computer software. i.e. System software and Application software.

Q13. Define system software?

Ans. System software is a type of computer program that is designed to run a computer's hardware
and application programs. It is also known as Operating system
(OS). It converts human language into machine language. For example, Microsoft Windows, MAC
OS are popular operating systems.
Q14. Elaborate the term Application software.

Ans. A software which is developed to help the user to perform specific tasks is
called application software. Applications software also called end-user programs include such
things as database programs, word processors, web browsers, music players and spreadsheets.

Q15. What are programing languages?

Ans. Programing languages are set of special instructions used to create applications.
Computer programmers uses these languages to design different applications. Some common
programing languages are C++, JAVA, Php, Html.

Q16. Which is the oldest software which we are using?


Ans. MOCAS is the oldest software which we are still using. It was a COBOL language program
that was designed in 1958.
