9. 4g of liquid A of density 2.6g/cm3 is mixed with 1.6cm3 of liquid B of density 3.3g/cm3.
Determine the density of the mixture. (4 Marks)

10. Write 432 and 288 each as a product of its prime factors. (2 Marks)

Hence find the least number that when divided by 432 gives a remainder of 431 when
divided by 288 gives a remainder of 287. (2 Marks)

11. Find the total value of each digit 8 in the figure below and hence find the sum of the total

12. A goat is tethered to a post that is at the corner of a rectangular field. The rope is 14m long.
Find the area of the maximum grazing area. (3 Marks)

A tourist arrived in Kenya from the United States with US$5000. He changed the dollars to
Kenya Shillings at the rates above. He spent Sh.281, 759 then changed the balance to Sterling
Pounds before he left. How much money in Sterling Pounds did he get? (3 Marks)

15. It takes 30 workers 6 days working 8 hours a day to harvest maize in a farm. How many days
would 50 workers working 6 hours a day take to harvest the maize? (2 Marks)

17. Mwema has Sh.4260 to purchase 30kg of rice and 50kg of sugar from a shop. If he buys
15kg of rice and 45kg of sugar he would pay Sh.1290 less. In a supermarket 1kg of sugar is
sold at 10% more and rice at 15% less per kg. How much would he save if he bought the
30kg of rice and 50kg of sugar from the supermarket? (10 Marks)

18. A trader sold an article at Sh.5400 after allowing his customer a 10% discount on the marked
price. In so doing he made a profit of 20%.

a) Calculate:
i) The marked price of the article. (2 Marks)

ii) The price at which the trader had bought the article. (3 Marks)

b) If the trader had sold the same article without giving a discount, calculate the percentage
profit he would have made. (2 Marks)

c) To clear his stock, the trader decided to sell the remaining articles at a loss of 12.5%.
Calculate the price at which he sold each article. (3 Marks)

19. Using a ruler and compasses only:


i) Construct triangle ABC such that AB=8cm, ∠ABC=45° and ∠BAC=60°.

ii) On the diagram in (i) above, measure sides AC and BC. (2 Marks)

iii) Drop a perpendicular from point A to meet side BC at D. Measure AD. (2 Mks)

Hence calculate the area of triangle ABC. (2 Marks)

20. Electricity costs consist of a standing charge and an additional amount which depends on the
number of watts used. The table below shows the amount payable for various numbesr of
watts used.

iii) 43 watts (1 Mark)

c) State the standing charge. (1 Mark)

d) From the graph find the consumption for the payment of: -
i) Sh.70 (1 Mark)

ii) Sh.146 (1 Mark)

21. Measurements of a maize field using a base line AF were recorded in a surveyor’s field book
as shown below.

23. The diagram below represents a wedge in which AB=BC=12cm and CF=5m. The wedge is
to be painted on all surfaces.

24. a) Three shopping centres X, Y and Z are such that Y is 12Km south of X and Z is 15Km
from X. Z is on a bearing of 330° from Y. Make a scale drawing to show the positions of X,
Y and Z. (4 Marks)

b) Use the scale drawing to find: -


i) The bearing of Z from X. (2 Marks)

ii) The distance YZ. (2 Marks)

iii) The bearing of X from Z. (2 Marks)
