Kazakhstan - Astana
The ancient Turkic peoples always worship the Sky as their God,
and their blue-sky banner symbolized devotion to Father
Ancestor. The blue colour of the State Flag of Kazakhstan
means pure sky, peace and prosperity, and self-colour of the
background represents the unity of our country.
Kyrgyztan - Bishkek
The red field stands for "bravery and valor", and alludes to the
purported emblem hoisted by Manas, the national hero of
Kyrgyzstan. The sun epitomizes peace and prosperity, while its 40
rays stand for the number of tribes united by Manas to fight
against the Mongols, as well as the number of followers he had.
Tajikistan – Dushanbe
The colours of the flag have specific meaning, the red represents
unity, white is purity, green is Islam and the seven stars represent
happiness.
Uzbekistan – Tashkent
Mainly, blue was the color of the state flag of Temur. White is
the traditional symbol of peace and good luck, as Uzbek
people say "Ok yul". Green is the color of nature and new life
and good harvest. Two thin red stripes symbolize the power of
life. There is a new moon, which symbolizes the newly
independent Republic.
Turkmenistan- Ashgabat
The flag of Turkmenistan (Turkmen: Türkmenistanyň baýdagy)
features a white crescent (symbol of Islam) and five stars
representing the five regions of the country and the Five Pillars
of Islam. Placed upon a green field is a symbolic representation
of the country's famous carpet industry.
EAST ASIA
China – Beijing
The red represents the Chinese Communist Revolution. The five
stars and their relationships to each other represent the unity of
four social classes of Chinese people, symbolized by four
smaller stars, under the Chinese Communist Party (CCP),
symbolized by the large star.
Mongolia - Ulaanbaatar
The red symbolizes freedom, prosperity, and progress. The blue
represents the eternal blue sky. The national symbol Soyombo
centers on the hoist side red. The name "Soyombo" is derived from
Sanskrit svayambhu "self-created".
Hongkong - City of Victoria
The regional flag carries a design of five bauhinia petals, each with a
star in the middle, on a red background. The red flag represents the
motherland and the bauhinia represents Hong Kong. The design
implies that Hong Kong is an inalienable part of China and prospers in
the embrace of the motherland. The five stars on the flower symbolise
the fact that all Hong Kong compatriots love their motherland, while the red and
white colours embody the principle of “One Country, Two Systems
Macau
The five stars show that Macao is an inseperable part of China. The
flower stands for the people and its three petals represent the three
islands of Macao. The bridge and the waves are emlematic of the
natural environment surrounding Macao.
Japan- Tokyo
Japan flags display a red circle on a white field. The circle represents
the sun as it rises in the sky, which has been a symbol of Japan for
hundreds of years. The rising sun also represents the potential for
improvement in the nation of Japan and the world as a whole.
Taiwan- Taipei
The flag of Taiwan is referred to as the “blue sky, white sun, wholly red
earth.” The white color of the sun symbolizes equality and democracy,
whereas the blue symbolizes liberty and nationalism. The three colors
(red, white, and blue) represent the three core principles of the country.
North Korea – PyongPyang
The red star represents communism, red panels represent
patriotism, white stripe is unification and culture, with the blue stripe
representing unity.
South Korea- Seoul
The flag stands for the three components of a nation: the land (the
white background), the people (the red and blue circle), and the
government (the four sets of black bars or trigrams). It was created
in 1882 but the symbols are among the oldest found on any nation's
flag.
West Asia
Armenia- Yerevan
One interpretation of its symbolism is that red stands for the blood
shed by Armenians in the past, blue is for the unchanging Armenian
land, and orange is for courage and work. Historical interpretations
have also been given to the colours.
Azerbaijan- Baku
The Pale blue is to reflect Turkic heritage, the red the modernity and
progress of the state and the green being the colour of Islamic
Culture. The crescent symbolises Islam and eight-pointed star
reflects the eight letters of Azerbaijan when written in Arabic script.
Cyprus- Nicosia
The white base of the flag means peace and tranquility of the island.
The map on the flag is a cooper-orange color, symbolizing the large
deposits of cooper ore in Cyprus. Two green branches of the olive
below a symbol of peace between the islands two communities
Georgia- T’bilisi
Flag of Georgia itself represents a white cloth with five red crosses,
one central (St. George) and four equilateral (Bolnisski) crosses in
the four quadrants. Rectangular and four small cross on a white
background are the general Christian symbols that embody Jesus
Christ the Savior and the four evangelists.
Iraq- Baghdad
Combined with the green Kufic script on the white band, these
colors make up the “pan-Arab” colors. The red is used to symbolize
the courage and struggles of the nation. The black represents both
the oppression and triumph of the Islamic religion. The color white
symbolizes the future of Iraq and the generosity of its people. The
green is a color that is associated with Islam.
Iran-Tehran
The colour scheme of green, white and red symbolise Islam, peace
and bravery respectively. The arms in the centre consist of four
half moons grouped around a sword, these five elements
symbolise the five pillars of Islam. The stylized lettering at the
edges of the white stripe say "Allah is Great'' 22 times.
Israel-Jerusalem
The Star of David is a widely acknowledged symbol of the Jewish
people and of Judaism. In Judaism, the color blue symbolises
God's glory, purity and gevurah (God's severity). The White field
represents Chesed (Divine Benevolence).
Jordan-Amman
The flag consists of a red triangle on the left side and three
horizontal colors. These colors reflect Jordanian history. Black
color wars and enemy attacks, white color tolerance and goodness,
green color efficient grasslands, red color reflects the enemy
blood.
Kuwait- Kuwait
The flag features the Pan-Arab colors. Red symbolizes the blood of
war, white represents purity and noble actions, green is for Arabia's
fertile lands, and black depicts the defeat of enemies in battle
Lebanon- Beirut
The red represent the blood shed and white represents purity and
peace. The cedar represents the bible.
Oman- Muscat
The white colour depicts the conviction of the Omani people in peace.
The red band is from the old Omani flag which was all red. It
symbolises the battles fought by Omanis to evict foreign invaders
from the country. The green band represents the fertility and
greenery of the land.
Qatar-Doha
The maroon color symbolizes blood shed during the several wars
Qatar had undergone, particularly in the second half of the 19th
century. The nine-point serrated line indicates that Qatar is the 9th
member of the \"reconciled Emirates\" of the Persian Gulf in the wake
of concluding the Qatari-British treaty in 1916.
Syria- Damascus
The red stripe stands for the nation's struggle for independence
from foreign rule, the white stands for peace, the black represents
the nation's past oppression, and the green represents the nations
of Syria and Egypt that once came together to form the United Arab
Republic.
Southern Asia
Afghanistan- Kabul
The black color represents its troubled 19th century history as a
protected state, the red color represents the blood of those who fought
for independence (specifically, the Anglo-Afghan Treaty of 1919), and
the green represents hope and prosperity for the future.
Bangladesh- Dhaka
The Bangladesh flag is composed of a dark green area with a
balanced red disc in the centre. The greenfield expresses the natural
beauty of the land. The disc represents the sun rising over the
country, and the red colour denotes the blood of Bangladeshis shed
in the war of independence.
Bhutan – Thimphu
The white colour of the dragon is said to represent purity, the yellow
represents the Kingdom of Bhutan's yellow Kabney, the orange
represents the Buddhist tradition and the jewels represent Bhutan's
wealth and security.
Bahrain – Manama
The five white triangles symbolize the five pillars of Islam, the red on
the flag represents the blood of the martyrs and the battles of Bahrain,
and the white represents peace.
India - New Delhi
The top saffron colour, indicates the strength and courage of the
country. The white middle band indicates peace and truth with Dharma
Chakra. The green shows the fertility, growth and auspiciousness of the
land. Its design is that of the wheel which appears on the abacus of the
Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka
Maldives – Male
The red colour symbolises the bloodshed and boldness of the
nation. The green is wealth and peace and the white crescent moon and
star represents Islam.
Nepal- Kathmandu
The crimson red is Nepal's national color, and it indicates the brave
spirits of the Nepalese people. The two triangles symbolize the Himalaya
Mountains and represent the two major religions, Hinduism and
Buddhism. The red triangular flag has been a Hindu symbol of victory
since the time of Ramayana and Mahabharata.
Pakistan – Islamabad
The green represents Islam and the majority Muslims in Pakistan and
the white stripe represents religious minorities and minority religions. In
the centre, the crescent and star which is traditional symbol of Islam
symbolizes progress and light respectively.
Sri Lanka – Colombo
The lion in the flag represents the Sinhala race. The sword of the
lion represents the sovereignty of the country. The noble eight
fold path of Buddhism is signified by the lion's tail. Curly hair on
the lion's head indicates religious observance, wisdom and
meditation. The beard denotes purity of words.
Southeast Asia
Brunei – Bandar Seri (Begawan)
The Sayap - the wing of four feathers - symbolizes the protection of
justice, tranquility, prosperity and peace. Tangan or Kimhap - the hand
- signifies the Government's pledge to promote welfare, peace and
prosperity. Bulan - the crescent - is the symbol of Islam, the national
religion of Brunei Darussalam.
Cambodia – Phnom Penh
The red colour of the flag is said to represent the nation's courage and
determination, while the blue colour symbolizes the nation's purity and
justice. The white colour of the temple symbolises the nation's religion
and faith. The flag is also said to represent the country's commitment to
peace and prosperity.
Timor- leste – Dili
The black represents more than four centuries of colonial repression, the
yellow the struggle for independence, and the red the suffering of the
East Timorese people. The white star symbolizes hope for the future.
Indonesia – Jakarta
The red band represents the courage and blood of the Indonesian people,
while the white band represents purity and the spirits of the people
Laos – Vientiane
The blue stripe represents the Mekong River as well as the nation's wealth,
while the red stripes represent the blood that the nation shed during its
struggle for independence and the period of colonial rule. The white circle
is a symbol of both national unity and the full moon.
Malaysia- Kuala Lumpur
The 14 red and white horizontal stripes represent the equality of the
federal government and the country's 13 states. In the upper left
section, blue represents unity, the crescent moon represents Islam, and
the 14-pointed star represents the unit of the federal government and
the 13 states.
Myanmar – Rangon
The three stripes of yellow, green and red symbolize solidarity, peace
and tranquility, and courage and decisiveness
Philippines – Manila
The white triangle stands for equality; the blue stripe stands for peace,
truth, and justice; and the red stripe represents patriotism and valor.
The eight sun rays symbolize the first eight provinces in the Philippines
that revolted against Spanish colonization.
Thailand – Bangkok
the red stripes reflect the bloodshed in Thailand's fight for
independence; the white represents pureness and Buddhism, and the
blue represents the Thai monarchy.
Singapore- Singapore
Red stands for universal brotherhood and equality of man. White
symbolises pervading and everlasting purity and virtue. The crescent
moon represents a young nation on the ascendant, and the five stars
depict Singapore's ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice and
equality.
Vietnam - Hanoi
the yellow color was for the Vietnamese race, the red background for
blood, and the five-pointed star represented the workers, peasants,
intellectuals, soldiers, and traders.
