For Q 9 to 11, Given below are two statements labeled as Assertion (A) and
Reason (R) Select the most appropriate answer from the options given
below:
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
9 Assertion: H2SO4 is not used during the reaction of alcohols with KI. 1
Reason: H2SO4 oxidizes KI to I2.
SECTION B
This section contains 3 questions with internal choice in one question. The
following questions are very short answer type and carry 2 marks each.
12 (i) What happens when aniline is treated with sodium nitrite and HCl 2
followed by CuCl?
(ii) Write the structure of the major product formed by dehydrohalogenation
of 1-Bromo-1 methylcyclohexane with alcoholic KOH.
14 Observe the diagram given below and answer the following questions: 1+1
3
(i) Define the process involved in the above diagram.
(ii) Write any two advantages of using this property over other
colligative properties for calculating molar mass of solute.
SECTION C
This section contains 5 questions with internal choice in one question. The
following questions are short answer type and carry 3 marks each.
18 Derive integrated rate equation for rate constant of a first order reaction. 3
OR
The rate constant of a reaction at 500 K and 700 K are 0.02 s-1 and
0.07 s1respectively. Calculate the value of activation energy, En (R = 8.314
J K-1 mol-1) (log 3.5= 0.544)
(i) A first order reaction takes 40 minutes for 30% decomposition. Calculate
t1/2 for this reaction. (Given log 7 = 0.8451)
19 (ii) What will be molecularity of following reaction: 2+1
SECTION D
The following questions are case -based questions. Read the passage
carefully and answer the questions that follow.

Alcohols play very important role in our daily life. Ordinary sprit used as an
antiseptic contains methanol. Ethanol is present in cough syrups, tonics,
wine, beer and whisky, Sugar, starch, cellulose are carbohydrates which
also contain large number —OH groups. Phenol is also an antiseptic in low
concentration (0.2%) whereas 2% solution of phenol is used as disinfectant.
The fragrance of rose is due to citronellol (unsaturated alcohol).Phenol is
used for preparation of many useful compounds like aspirin, methyl
salicylate (Iodex) and phenyl salicylate (salol) used as intestinal antiseptic.

(i) Benzene to Biphenyl.
(ii) Tert-Butyl Bromide to isobutyl bromide.
(iii) 2-Chlorobutane to 3,4-Dimethylhexane.
(b) (i) The treatment of alkyl chloride with aq. KOH leads to the formation
of alcohols but in presence of alc. KOH, alkenes are the major products.
Explain.

(i) Scuba divers use oxygen diluted with helium gas.
(ii) Gases tend to be less soluble in liquids as the temperature is raised.
(b) 100 mg of a protein is dissolved in just enough water to make 10.0 mL
of solution. If this solution has an osmotic pressure of 13.3 mm Hg at 25°C,
what is the molar mass of the protein?
(R = 0.0821 L atm mol-1 K-1 and 760 mm Hg = 1 atm.)
