Aim:- Study and usage of open Project or similar software to draft a Project plan.

THEORY:

PLANNING: Planning in software engineering is a crucial phase that involves defining the
goals, scope, and tasks required to complete a software project successfully. It sets the
foundation for the entire development process and includes several key activities.

Features of Planning: Planning in software engineering is a crucial phase that involves

defining the goals, scope, and tasks required to complete a software project successfully.
It sets the foundation for the entire development process and includes several key
activities:

1. Requirement Gathering: Involves understanding what the stakeholders need from

the software. This includes both functional and non-functional requirements.
Techniques include interviews, surveys, workshops, and reviewing existing
documentation.

2. Feasibility Study: Assessing the technical, operational, and financial feasibility of

the project. Helps in determining whether the project should proceed.

3. Project Scope Definition: Clearly defining what is included in the project and what is
not. Establishes boundaries to prevent scope creep

4. Resource Allocation: Identifying the resources needed, including personnel,

hardware, software, and time. Includes the assignment of roles and responsibilities
5. Risk Management: Identifying potential risks that could impact the project.
Developing mitigation strategies for those risks.

MS Project Introduction :

Microsoft Project is a project management software program developed and sold by

Microsoft, designed to assist a project manager in d0eveloping a schedule, assigning
resources to tasks, tracking progress, managing the budget, and analysing workloads.
Project creates budgets based on assignment work and resource rates. As resources are
assigned to tasks and assignment work estimated, the program calculates the cost, equal
to the work times.

MS Project helps us in:

1. Visualise project plan in standard defined formats.

2. Schedule task consistently and effectively.

3. Track information about the work duration and resource.

4. Generate reports to share in program meeting.
