The FAO cited an “increasing population, limited resources and natural disasters” as
contributing to the country’s worsening hunger problem, which has been further exacerbated by
the COVID-19 pandemic. These circumstances make severe undernutrition a growing threat to
Filipino children. Micronutrient undernutrition, or the inadequate consumption of vital vitamins
and minerals, affects a large number of Filipino children as well. About 38% of infants aged 11
months and under and 26% of children aged 12 to 23 months suffer from micronutrient
undernutrition. Undernutrition not only poses serious health risks to an individual, but it also
negatively impacts the nation's overall economic and human development by seriously impeding
children's cognitive development.
2. What are the three (3) most important things that you believe should be done to reduce
hunger in our country?
The primary priority should be ensuring food security for the Philippines. The nation is
home to some of the poorest and most marginalized citizens due to its rich maritime resources
and fertile soil, and to evaluate, these factors must be taken into account:
Self-Defense Against Food Poverty As a result, the Philippines can help those affected by
political upheaval and natural disasters. Furthermore, it has established safety net programs to
help the impoverished take back control of their lives by giving them food and training in useful
occupations.
Establishing the foundation for sustained independence is the aim. Given the high proportion of
Filipinos living in poverty, long-term development initiatives have been given top priority under
the Food and Hunger programs. The goals of these programs are to lessen poverty and encourage
healthy eating.
