RURAL AGRICULTURAL WORK EXPERIENCE (RAWE)

INTRODUCTION TO RAWE PROGRAMME

The Rural Agriculture Work Experience (RAWE) is a compulsory course offered to the
students of 7th semester enrolled in Agriculture programme. In India, Randhawa Committee
(1992) recommended the Rural Work Experience (RAWE) programme for imparting quality,
practical and production-oriented education for agriculture degree programme.
The ‘RAWE’ word stand for Rural Agriculture Work Experience, it is basically awareness to
Agriculture graduates about the actual situation and status of the farmers and farming
practices.
RAWE helps the students primarily to understand the rural situations, status of agricultural
technologies adopted by the farmer, prioritize the farmers problem and to develop skills and
attitude of working with farm families for overall development in rural area. The timings for
RAWE can be flexible for specific region to coincide with the main cropping season.
Agriculture education needs to be evolved in a very rapid manner to meet the expectation of
the society. Though the students of agriculture are learning substantial basic and applied
issues of science and technology, they do not possess adequate confidence in starting own
commercial venture.
Agriculture Work Experience (RAWE) is an important competence and confidence building
Programme introduced in Agriculture universities in India.

PRINCIPLES OF RAWE PROGRAMME: -

1. Approaching farmers on the fields itself.
2. Live with them
3. Learn from them
4. Motivate them
5. Learning by doing
6. Perform fields activities to gain hands-on experience
7. Suggest some idea to farmer for increasing yield
THE MAIN OBJECTIVES OF RAWE
 To provide opportunity to the students to understand the rural situation in relation to
agriculture and allied activities.
 To get the students familiar with socio-economic conditions of the farmers and their
problems with reference to agricultural development.
 To impact diagnostic and remedial knowledge to the students relevant to real field
situations through practical training.
 To develop communication skills in students using extension teaching method in
transfer technology.
 To develop confidence and competence to solve agricultural problems.
 To help students to acquaint with on-going extension and rural development
programmes.
 To explore the high-tech agriculture technology and the factors affecting the
adoption of modern method of agriculture.
CENTRE FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE, RESEARCH,
EDUCATION AND EXTENSION

the instructions of DR.B.K. CHAUDHARY
Where we divided into four group for survey and collected information from farmer as per
questionnaire i.e. (name of farmer, family member, education qualification, category, land,
land revenues, etc).
Inquiring at least 10 farmer families about various farm parameter and practices mentioned
in the manual and advising farmer on new technologies advancements in agriculture, visiting
their field, and collecting sample for herbarium.
DATE: - 25 September 2023
Discussion and evaluation of previously collected data of village survey.
Then at afternoon 2:00 PM again visit to village for surveyed to gather more information
from farmer i.e. (machinery which are used in the farm field, irrigation facilities, disease and
pests that mainly occur in crop).
Then after the collection of village data we evaluate and organized the collected data in a
systematic form.
2. AGRONOMICAL INTERVENTION
DATE: - 22 SEPTEMBER 2023
A.) SOWING OF PEA
Thoroughly prepared seed bed required for pea cultivation. To obtain fine seed bed for pea,
one to two ploughing is done by tractor followed by 2-3 harrowing and planking after
ploughing operation then level the field using leveller.
Then mixing of compost in the prepared field and NPK application is given to prepared field
followed by pea sowing.
Broadcasting method are used for pea sowing, then after sowing level the 1 acre of land by
using leveller
These are done under the incharge.
Before sowing of seed, seed are pre-treated with thiram (fungicide).
Details of seed material:
VARITY: SUPER-07
NET WEIGHT: 5 Kg
GERMINATION PERCENTAGE: 75%
SEED GENETIC PURITY: 95%
PHYSICAL PURITY: 97%
B.) AZOLLA CULTIVATION
AZOLLA – Azolla is a free floating aquatic fern and naturally available mostly on moist soils,
ditches marshy ponds and is widely distributed in tropical belts of India. Azolla grow in fresh
water and belongs to family salviniaceae.
Azolla is used as a biofertilizer because it possesses a symbiotic association with nitrogen
fixing cyanobacteria.
METOD OF AZOLLA CULTIVATION: -

2. inspection of insect pest in bean fields

3. field bed preparation of allotted plot
4. removing of weed
5. vermicompost method
3. SOIL IMPROVEMENT INTERVANTION
DATE: - 5/10/23
Discussion about soil sampling.
Date- 9/10/23
We went to the village for collection of soil sample from the farmer field.
By using zig-zag method soil sample collected from5 different spots to gets 2 composites of
soil sample as per the format given in RAWE manual.
