Links

Don’t bother putting links into TikTok videos. You can add text after you have the actual video
uploaded (or recorded), but people are NOT going to type in links. As of right now (4/22), you cannot
add clickable links to a TikTok video - at least not old ones. They might be adding clickable links, but
it doesn’t seem to be active now.
Instead, put something like “Google hitmanbluesband” in the text.

Where to put text?

Generally, the best place is at the top of the screen, if that’s where the “dead space” is. Otherwise,
look for the area most likely to not be covering important content.

Hashtags
Unlike YouTube, hashtags are vital to TikTok. It is how their algorithm works. While you can use
tagging to promote a video (tag all of your friends, for example), hashtags will work better. Don’t use
non-appropriate hashtags, thinking it will get better results. It will actually work against you.

Crossposting
Take advantage of crossposting to post to Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. This is done by
checking “Save To Album” in the Post section, as you’re about to actually post the video. Also make
sure “Allow comments” and “Allow Duets” (when appropriate) is on. Saving to Album puts the video
on your phone, so you can easily post it to other platforms.
Also, make sure Instagram and Twitter are connected to your TikTok account. This allows you to
automatically post to those platforms.
Cover photo
Unlike YouTube, the cover photo is not that important. People generally don’t even see it unless they
look for it while watching the video. That being said, it doesn’t hurt to have an interesting one.

Video Length
Tiktok is fast. The shorter (closer to 15 seconds as opposed to 30), the better. Just make sure it’s
interesting/funny/exciting/controversial/sexy.

Fifteen Tips
1. Upload at least one video per day. It gives you more chances to go viral. Don’t forget to
filming ahead.
2. Get a personal relationship with someone who is “blowing up” on TikTok. Look around the
platform - someone you know may already be there! This is mainly to raise your confidence
and reinforce belief that it can be achieved.
3. Research hashtags before making a video. Look and see what hashtags are relevant to your
concept.
4. Look for hashtags that get between 1 to 10 million views. They will be better than ones that
get hundreds of millions or billions of views, because those are highly competitive.
5. Always use text for viewers without sound, or people who need help understanding what
you’re saying.
6. Do “top” videos - top 5, top 10. “Top 5 tips for touring bands”, “Top 10 tips for rehearsing
bands”, “Top 10 ways to promote music”, “Top 10 ways to prepare for recording”.
7. Check your views once a week. Not once a day. Not once a month. It may take a week just
get started on a new video. It may take that long for the algorithm to correctly process it.
8. Do mostly 15 second videos unless you see proven success in a similar format. You can test
longer videos, up to a minute, but be aware it may affect viewer numbers.
9. Talk about sex to get 10x to 100x more views. This is optional, but effective. It could be about
groupies, about dangers of rock and roll sex, about how to approach band members. You
cannot use “sex” as a hashtag, but you can use it in a description.
10. Love and be grateful for your viewers instead of being frustrated with not getting views. It can
be frustrating when videos don’t perform well, or there are negative comments. Make all
responses affirmative, respectful, and helpful if possible. Use affirmation statements to
yourself to reinforce this, including PostIt reminders.
11. You can speed up videos to include more, stand out more, and get more rewatches. A video
that’s 25 seconds long may be able to be sped up to make it 15 seconds. Sometimes the
higher speed makes people want to watch it twice. When TikTok sees that, they will push the
video more.
12. Use video editing software to make videos instead of only using the TikTok editor when
possible.
13. Record with a professional microphone and camera on the computer instead of a phone, when
possible.
14. Tell incredible true stories. Either from your own life or from others. Remember that what you
might consider mundane could be incredible to others. Things like recording, performing,
writing, etc. Traumas, frustrations, real emotions.
15. Test different formats and topics. Play around and try everything.
Fixing the “This Video Is Under Review and Can’t Be Shared Right Now” Error
This happens because the TikTok algorithm that blocks users from uploading other people’s
videos and using them as their own. However, it’s such a broad filter that it catches videos that
are created in video editors (instead of TikTok’s creator).
If you have zero views, check to see if your own view is counted. It should always be counted,
even though it’s your own view. To confirm, click the share button and try to share it with a TikTok
message. If the algorithm is blocking it, you will get a message saying it’s under review.
The workaround is to record the video using the app. Play it on a computer screen and record it
from there, as best as possible.
