INTRODUCTION:

This is the guide for calibrating brand-new

instruments, it therefore, calls out many
procedures and adjustments that are rarely Tek form number:
required for subsequent recalibration. This
procedure is company confidential. In this 0-280
procedure, all front panel control labels or May 1966
Tektronix equipment names are in capital For all serial
letters (VOLTS/DIV, etc.) internal adjust- numbers.
ment labels are capitalized only (Gain Adj,
etc.). Supersedes
August 1962

FACTORYTEST LIMITS:

We initially calibrate the instrument to Factory Test Limits. These

limits are often more stringent than advertised performance requirements.
This helps insure that the instrument will meet advertised requirements
after shipment, allows for inaccuracies of test equipment used, and
may allow for changes in environmental conditions.

QUALIFICATION:

Factory test limits are qualified by the conditions specified in the

main body of the calibration procedure. The numbers and letters to the
left of the limits correspond to the factory calibration procedure steps
where the check or adjustment is made. Instruments may not meet factory
test limits if calibration or check-out methods and test equipment differ
substantially from those in this procedure.

ABBREVIATIONS
:

Abbreviations in this procedure will be found listed in TEKTRONIX

STANDARD A-100.

CHANGEINFORMATION:

This procedure has been prepared by Product Manufacturing Staff Engineer-

ing. For information on changes that have been made to this procedure,
to make suggestions for changing this procedure, or to order additional

3. POWER
SUPPLY
a. Setup
Connect the TYPE 503 to variable line
voltage source, set line voltage to 117
VAC and turn POWERON.

b. Adjust -100 VOLTS ±2%

Connect a multimeter to the -lOOV supply
and adjust -lOOV adj (R641) for a -lOOV
reading.

a. Check Low VoZta,ge Supplies c. Measure 30 kHz ripple near

front panel to reduce pickup
Connect the multimeter and a lX probe from
from 30 kHz power oscillator.
the test scope to the various test points
listed below and check power supply ripple,
regulation and tolerance. Change the
test scope VOLTS/CMand TIME/CM as
necessary to measure power supply ripple.
Check ripple and regulation while varying
the line voltage between 105 VAC and 125
VAC.

Max ripple in P to P mV

The -100 volts may be varied ±2% if

necessary to bring the other low
voltage supplies within tolerance.
Reset line voltage to 117 VAC.

4. CRT
a. Setup
Change TRIGGERLEVEL to FREE RUN and use
INTENSITY, FOCUS and POSITION controls to
obtain a trace. Rotate CRT to position
trace parallel to graticule horizontal
line and tighten CRT in place.
Connect TYPE 184 to VERTICAL+ INPUT and
apply lmsec and lOOµsec markers. Set
INTENSITY and TRIGGERLEVEL for usable
brightness, triggered display. Set VERTICAL
SENSITIVITY so TYPE 184 markers fill grati-
cule area vertically.
