Horror Timeline.

Pre 1960's
The original idea of a horror film was something out of the ordinary- out of this world. Concepts of hideous monsters terrorising the population were the common perceptions. These often originated from old legends which have been told over time- however the truth behind the tales were uncertain- but this didnt suspend the development of the film industry. These films were of poor quality in comparison to more recent times- however remakes became visible decades later. The ideas were there, just not the execution Frankenstein (1931) Dracula (1931) Werewolf (1913) Godzilla (1954) King Kong (1933)

1960's
The 1960's horror films typical conventions were the harm of one human to another. The genre of most 1960s horror films became very predictable, as the majority of releases contained a murderer and various civilians in distress. Now-a-days these are considered so much horror, more thriller, however during this time period- it was a scary thing to experience due to the threat of it being possible to happen in real life; the public became much more aware of murder crime due to the media exploits through these films. However there was the introduction of new ideas, more unrealistic conception, but perhaps more gripping and interesting due to their unfamiliarity; the odd zombie and ghoul flick was released to add a new emphasis. 1970's
The 1970s was where horror films really began to break free of stereotypes. Original, conventional ideas began to become a thing of the past as new ideas were fused into the story lines to give the audience a much more unfamiliar viewing experience- revolutionising the future with the stimulus for horror. We saw the introduction of not only mutants and monsters- but real life aspects were now used in horrific scenarios- murderers, animals/mammals! Additionally, it was more notable that there was a lot my thought and depth into the storylines. It paved the way for the basis of future horror films... 1980s
The 1980s brought a new dynamic to horror movies- it was very much based around the introducing of the unusual- we now saw toys, demonically possessed people and aliens- as well as a very burnt man! The introduction of never before seen elements gave a scare to the 80s audience, due to the unfamiliarity of things they had never experienced before in their lives- this was considered the most pivotal decade of eras.and perhaps the scariest in relative time.
