Topic: Ch 7 - Study of Gas Laws

QI. State the following:

1. Theoretical volume of a gas at 0 Kelvin.
2. Absolute temperature of a gas at 7℃.
3. An equation used in chemical calculations which gives a simultaneous effect
of changes of temperature and pressure on the volume of a given mass of dry
gas.

QII. Solve the following:

1. A gas occupies 760 ml at 27ºC and 70 cm of Hg. What will be its volume at
S.T.P.
2. A gas occupies 3 litres at 0°C. What volume will it occupy at -20°C, pressure
remaining constant?
3. 2 litres of a gas is enclosed in a vessel at a pressure of 760 mm of Hg. If
temperature remains constant, calculate the pressure when volume changes
to 4 dm3.

QIII. Give reasons for the following statements:

1. It is necessary to specify the pressure and temperature of a gas while stating
its volume.
2. Gases have lower density compared to solids or liquids.
QIV. State the laws which are represented by the following graphs.

QV. Answer the following:

1. What happens to the volume of a fixed mass of dry gas if its pressure is
doubled at constant temperature?
2. What is the melting point of ice on the Kelvin Scale of temperature?
3. State Boyle’s Law.
4. State the standard pressure of a gas in cm. of mercury corresponding to one
atmospheric pressure.
