PRESS RELEASE - RHS CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW, 2024

SITE NUMBER : SR139

Artist Statement
Luke Adam Hawker, an artist based in Surrey, finds inspiration
by immersing himself in the world around him. Drawing on
location has become his way of connecting with places, people,
and the natural environment, allowing him to capture the
essence and beauty of our world.

Luke will be presenting a new body of work that celebrates

trees as ‘Living Legends.’ Each piece endeavors to convey
the vital role that trees play in sustaining life on our planet
and their enduring impact on human culture and history.
Through his art, Luke hopes to inspire a sense of reverence and
responsibility towards these ancient giants, encouraging us all
to preserve and protect them for future generations.

The Wren Project.

Luke’s upcoming collaboration with St James’s Piccadilly involves drawing its

magnificent Magnolia tree at the easel in the church grounds, before bringing
the tree inside to be drawn amidst the beautiful surroundings of Christopher
Wren’s architecture. This initiative supports the fundraising campaign for the
‘Wren Project’, aimed at revitalising the historic church and its garden. Luke will
contribute the original artwork for auction, with 50% of print sales proceeds also
directed to the campaign.

St James’s Piccadilly is set to become the first place of worship to have a show
garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in recent years, designed by Robert Myers.
This garden, sponsored by Project Giving Back will help support efforts to raise
£20m for The Wren Project, highlighting the vital role of urban green spaces in
healing and community outreach.

Chelsea Flower Show 2024 - Trade Show Stand

A key design feature of Luke’s trade stand showcase at the Chelsea Flower Show, will be the dried canopy of flowers, covering the full expanse
of the ceiling. Over the past six months Luke’s studio in Dorking, Surrey, has been collecting ‘used’ flowers from neighbours, all in an effort to
repurpose blooms past their prime. These have all then carefully hung and dried in the studio.
The Mid Surrey Community Fridge has also played an integral role in this endeavor, generously collecting ‘out of date’ flowers from local Surrey
supermarkets. All of these beautiful flowers, which might have otherwise met a different fate, will now grace the Chelsea Flower Show.
