The Philippines' Visayas area includes the culturally and historically rich province of Cebu. The Sinulog
Festival is among its most historic traditions. Celebrated annually in January in Cebu City, the Sinulog
Festival honors the Santo Niño (Child Jesus) and is one of the most famous and beautiful celebrations in
the Philippines. A big parade that reflects the water stream (sulog) of Cebu's Pahina River is the festival's
signature event. People dress colorful and perform the Sinulog dance. It combines elements of native and
Christian dances.
Fort San Pedro is one of the most important of Cebu's many outstanding heritage tourism sites. The
smallest and oldest triangular stronghold fort in the Philippines is called Fort San Pedro, and it is situated
in Cebu City. Under the guidance of Spanish colonial Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, it was constructed in
1565 with workmen from Cebu, both native and Spanish. The historical landmark Fort San Pedro in Cebu
was part of the American military camp during World War II, a bastion for Filipino rebels, and a military
defense complex during Spanish colonial times. It now contains records and artifacts.
