Part 1: Reading

An amazing memory
For as long as he can remember, Brad Williams has been able to remember
the most useless information and details about his life. His family and friends
always find it awesome, but experts and doctors are now studying him to try
and find out more about how memory works.
Williams seems to like having his memory tested and when you tell him a
random date, he can remember exactly what happened that day. For example,
if you say “August 18th, 1965” he will tell you that it was a Wednesday, he was
eight years old and he was on a trip with his parents. They stayed at a motel
that night, but it was more like a cabin. Williams is in his fifties now, and these
events happened over forty years ago.
He can also remember news events from days in the past. Just tell him the
date, and he will correctly tell you what was in the news that day. “I’ve always
been this way,” he says, “So, while growing up, I never thought I was any
different from anyone else.”
Experts have no idea how he does it. However, after several tests it became
clear that it’s easy for Williams to remember things that he’s interested in. He is
excellent at remembering news events and TV shows, but not so good at
sports, for example. In 1990 he appeared on a TV quiz show and answered
most of the questions correctly. But he didn’t do well in the categories “snakes”
and “words beginning with kh” and didn’t end up winning anything.

Part 4: Writing

Imagine that you have received the following e-mail from a friend. Write a
reply.
Hi there,
How have you been? My cousin from Melbourne is staying with us for a few days
and I want to take her around. I was wondering about the ice-skating rink you
went
to last weekend. What’s it like? Is it worth going to? Is it expensive? Can I rent
skates there? When is the best time to go?
E-mail me ASAP.
cold water (no article)

Hi! What a pleasure to know about you! Oh, really? Well, you should take her there, definitely.
The place is nice, but, I dont like the could water so much :( I prefer the beach instead! If you go
there you must take coats and boots. The price is OK, not expensive but neither cheap, is good for
visiting and spend some time. Yes, you can rent skates and ask for help if you need it. The best time
to go, if, of course, in winter´s vacactions -July-.
nor expensive nor cheap
Well, I hope see you soon
Have a good time with your cousin.
it's good for..
