1. ACCESS & LOGIN
To access XChange Box web interface, you need to connect a computer to the local network (LAN) or
via WiFi.

1.1 URL & Log-in

The login page can be accessed using any web browser by entering the URL: http://xchange.box.

If the captive portal function is enabled whenever the computer is connected to the box but no internet
session is launched the browser will direct to xchange.box anytime a webpage is intended to open. It
does not apply in case of machine account since those have continuous internet session.

1.1.1 Log-in
To login onto the XChange Box, use your own Master Account.
If you do not have your personal account, below default Master Account can be used:

 Username: dcaptain

 Passcode: 10041234

1.1.2 Logout
To logout, click the Logout link on top middle of any page.

1.2 Connect to internet

In most cases captain account is automatically connected to internet. However, if settings are different
it is required to click on the green Connect icon in top-right corner.

2. DASHBOARD

Dashboard aggregates the most important and frequently used information and activities in the landing
page.

Connectivity shows devices and their status. More to learn in next chapter.

Events shows device switching, synchronization, software upgrade, allowance alert, and some more
information.

Hot Actions serves you as a collection of links to most frequent tasks. You
have quick access to user management, credit top-up approval, and
vouchers. Numbers in top-right corner indicate if new user, credit top-up
or voucher is supposed to be handled.

Overall Traffic displays data, voice, VoIP, and VideoTalk consumption on daily and monthly basis.

Active Users lists users currently connected to internet or on call.

My Traffic shows your internet and call history.

3. DEVICE SWITCHING

The XChange Box makes it possible to switch manually from one to another terminal. You can activate
or deactivate available terminals. All data, VoIP and voice communication are carried out the activated
device if it is enabled for the given user group.

3.1 Switching Options

Three switching options can be available: manual, fully automatic and semi-automatic.
Manual switch means the captain needs to switch device if the previously used one is down.
In case of fully automatic the system automatically switched to the available device with highest
priority.
Semi-automatic enforces usage of primary terminal unless outage occurs; if primary terminal is not
available, captain may switch to secondary one.

3.2 Activating Device

 Go to Box Settings > Devices > Overview

 Click once on the ‘On/Off’ button next to the name of the terminal.

 Confirm in the pop-up window that this terminal should be activated

 The page is then refreshed and the terminal status changes to ‘Activated’ after a few seconds.

3.3 Deactivating Device

 Go to Box Settings > Devices > Overview

 Green lines indicate available terminals, the one with moving stripes is the active one.

 Click once on the ‘On/Off’ button next to the name of the terminal to deactivate it.

 Confirm in the pop-up window that this terminal should be deactivated.

 The page is then refreshed and the terminal status changes to ‘dectivated’ after a few seconds
while the other one gets available.

 You may activate the deactivated terminal by clicking on the ‘On/Off’ button again.

4. CREATING AND ACCEPTING CREW MEMBERS

4.1 Creating Crew Member

To create new crew member go to: Box Settings > Accounts > Users

Click Add below the user overview table and proceed as following:

 Type in the first and last name

 Set a username or click Auto (first letter of the first name concatenated with last name)

 Write a description

 Select the user group Crew

The ‘maximum mobile data session duration’ indicates the automatic disconnection time for users using
a smartphone or tablet via the mobile web interface.

When a user’s online data session reaches the set threshold, per default 2 hours, the system
disconnects the data session to avoid unwanted traffic consumption.

To change the default value, simply click and keep the mouse button pressed on the quad and move it
from left to right and vice versa.

4.2 Accepting Self-registered Users

Users may register themselves if this function is enabled.


In this case either administrator on shore or captain needs to approve registration otherwise XChange
Box features will not be available for the registered user.
Newly self-registered users can be seen at Box Settings >> Accounts >> New

Select the ones you want to accept by clicking on the check box next to them and then on Switch
group.

The switching group window pops up. Select the group Crew and click on Save.

The selected crew member is now showed with a new user group. Select the one you want to accept
by clicking on the box next to them and then click on Save.

Modifications are confirmed. Click on OK.

The description on the new member of the group Crew is displayed. This description can be printed for
the crew member and/or for archives. The description is also containing some information about how
to connect to XChange Box and how to use it. Click on OK.

4.3 User Account Voucher

After clicking on creating new user or accepting self-registration the page is automatically refreshed and
a user account voucher appears providing all account details such as username, password, and
description how to make calls or go online. Note the user credentials or click Print. Click Edit to change
the user details or to change the password. It is recommended to print this voucher out and hand it over
to crew.

Username and password are used for logging in to XChange using browser or XChange applications.

SIP extension number can be used to call someone who has XChange Voice app on their phone.

PIN code can be used if call is initiated via crew phone.

5. RESETTING USER PASSWORDS
To reset a user password, go to Box Settings > Accounts > Users.
Click on the user name in question and proceed:

 Click ‘Edit’ to enter the user details page.

 Click ‘Reset Password’ if you want to change password

 Note the new password delivered by the system or print a new voucher

6. CREDIT AND VOUCHERS
6.1 Credit Management

To manage a users’ credit, go to Box Settings > Accounts > Users


Click the username in question to select it, and click Edit to enter the user details page.
On the user details page it is possible to:

 View the current credit

 Add to credit by Credit top up, set to different value selecting Reset, deduct from credit using
Remove

 Select if the action should apply on Corporate or Personal credit

 Enter the amount you want to add/set/deduct at Credit variation and click on Apply

The page is refreshed and credit will be updated immediately.

6.2 Credit Top-up Approval

Users may request credit top-up on their own that can be accepted by either the system automatically
or the captain manually – it depends on the configuration.

Credit top-up requests can be seen at Box Settings >> Credits

Select the ones you want to approve and click on Approve. You may also reject requests by clicking
on Reject.

Confirm approval in the pop-up window by clicking on Done. Now credit can be used by the crew.

6.3 Voucher Creation

Vouchers can be found at Box Settings >> Credits >> Prepaid Vouchers
 Create new vouchers by providing their quantity and value

 New vouchers must be unblocked. Select the vouchers you want to unblock and click on Unblock.

Voucher number can be handed over to crew so they can use them.

Later vouchers can be suspended if needed so they will not work until getting unsuspended again.

7. DISCONNECT ACTIVE USER

It can be useful to disconnect other users so business critical traffic can be faster. Active users may be
disconnected easily through the dashboard. All the users can be disconnected by clicking on the X
beside User, or one certain user by clicking on the X beside it.

Pop-up window appears with additional options. You disconnect all users belong to the same user
group as the user selected. Also, you may prevent user(s) to connect again within defined interval.

After successful disconnection the user disappears from active users and will be blocked to have
connection again until the defned interval ends.

8. STARTING REMOTE ACCESS

The XChange Box has an embedded remote access feature.


In the case, that you need remote assistance or an administrator asks you to start the remote access
follow the steps below:

 Go to Box Settings > Network > Overview

 Click the Start button to activate the remote access

When you are asked to stop the remote access, please press the Stop button.

9. SYSTEM RESTART

With the Power Control functionality you can restart the XChange Box without the need for any physical
action. It can be necessary if a premium solution is enabled or Marlink Technical Support ask you to do
so.

To restart or shut down the XChange Box go to Box Settings > System > Power Control and click the
appropriate button.

 If the XChange Box is shut down or restarted, the embedded features will not be operable. All data
and voice sessions will be closed without warning any users and network clients still connected will lose
their network access.
