JOB ACCOUNTABILITY:
Leading an engineering team in a global provider of drilling rigs, advanced drilling equipment packages,
and the related capital equipment necessary to drill oil and gas wells, you will drive the department to ever
increasing standards of performance to provide NOV's clients with technically compliant, commercially
responsible, and professional solutions. You will be able to employ your considerable technical, leadership
and professional experience to ensure your team perform to schedule and budget. You will also be
responsible for all the aspects of your team’s development including recruitment, and training. Ultimately
you will define and drive your team’s continual improvement to enhance their performance and capabilities
in line with the broader company initiatives. You will carry out engineering tasks as required, provide
leadership for the successful day-to-day operation and will harness a working environment which
encourages team work, accountability and an engaged workforce.

ROLES,RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Core Roles Core Responsibilities


Duties  Guide the team's technical performance, to client specification and
applicable engineering code and practice.
 Take a hands-on approach to the successful running of the day to day
workload, prioritizing your role’s workload as well as your team.
 Support, continuously improve and communicate the engineering
systems, processes and policies - specifically management reporting and
information flow
 Ensure team is reporting any design changes which may have a cost or
schedule impact to the relevant Project Team.
 Support strategic engineering programs to maximize value and mitigate
risk while ensuring internal and external stakeholders’ requirements are
met
 Ensure engineering team’s delivery on time to agreed delivery dates.
 Ensure the engineering team is fully aware of their commercial impact on
margin growth and erosion.
 Monitor the engineering team’s performance in terms of actual hours
versus budget.
 In collaboration with Operations Manager monitor and analyze
accountable overruns to determine root cause, enact immediate fixes and
implement preventative measures.
 Ensure engineering team reduce non-value add activity in all processes.
 In collaboration with Operations Manager carry out recruitment activities;
including forecasting, business justification for personnel, raising
requisitions, review of CVs and assessing prospective recruits.
 Develop, deliver and assess training plans.
 Develop and maintain Job Descriptions.
 Chair client meetings and monitor department's performance to ensure
customer care is at the foremost position.
 Responsible for induction training for new hires.
 Assignment of mentors to new hires and monitor.
 Monitor and optimize team member’s performance to ensure a high
standard of professionalism is maintained and that customer care is at the
forefront.
 Responsible for the creation, maintenance and adherence to
departmental process flow maps.
 Structure assigned department project work.
 Structure and plan department sustaining and product maintenance work.
 Research, develop, and design Electrical and electronic interface circuitry
for control of products.
 Create and/or design electrical drawings and documentation. (Typical;
block diagram, termination diagram, electrical schematic, interconnect,
cabling, and assembly drawings and BOMs.)
 Establish design criteria for deliverables using required codes and
standards.
 Review contractual content to ensure technical and regulatory
compliance.
 Participate in design review.
 Provide manufacturing with technical assistance.
 Provide technical support during testing.
 Review and approve engineering documentation provided by external
groups

Technical Competencies  Knowledge of offshore design standards is beneficial but not essential
 Experience with design and engineering of Ex (hazardous area) equipment is
desirable.
 Experience from using AutoCAD design tool will be an advantage
 Knowledge and experience in Siemens Teamcentre (Desirable)
 Having a professional letter/certification in electrical, automation, etc. is an
advantage
 Knowledge and experience with Explosion Proof equipment preferred
(Desirable)
 Generally good IT knowledge and experience from using relevant software

Planning –  Evaluates results.

Scheduling  Accurately scope out length and difficulty of tasks and projects.
 Collect and analyze data to find places of waste of resources and efficiencies.
 Ensure effective utilization of resources

 Plan and control change by anticipating and adjusting
 Measures performance against goals
 Setup controls and monitor KPI’s
Human Resources  Ensure that all the organization’s activities and operations are carried out in
and Governance compliance with the laws governing such business operations, country
specific.
 Create and/or control structures and processes necessary to manage
the current activities within area of responsibility
 Address complaints and resolve issues.
 Oversee subordinates if applicable and ensure implementation of
organization’s policies.
 Develop and implement procedures and controls to promote
 communication and adequate information flow within area of responsibility
 Ensure the responsibilities, authorities and accountability of all direct
subordinates are defined and understood
 Ensure the execution of the organizations operating policies. Appraise
performance, reward and discipline employees Interview, hire and train
employees if applicable.
Punctuality  Manage the impact on the workplace of the effects of lack of punctuality and
ensure a well-functioning team.
 Manage punctuality, promptness and deadlines of the team.

 Set team priorities.

HSE General  Ensure proper housekeeping is implemented in your work area and
maintained;
 Report all work related incidents within 24hrs to the HSE department
for action
 Adhere and comply with all safety signage and PPE requirements;
 Implement SWA (Stop Work Authority) where required and report any unsafe
acts or omissions immediately to your supervisor to assist in reducing and
eliminating any existing health, safety or environmental risks or hazards;
 Adhere to all approved HSE policies and work procedures under KP8;
Quality Assurance  Carry out all duties in accordance with the Company’s quality assurance policies,
procedures and work instructions

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:


QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

 Preferred 2+ years of supervisory / leadership experience of managing a design team.


 Relevant experience within Instrumentation, Electrical, Mining Machines or Automotive may compensate
where there is no formal qualification
 Practical experience with FATs or Commissioning Equipment
