I. TITLE OF THE STUDY
A Case Study on the Existing Tuguegarao Airport in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
II. INTRODUCTION
The availability of different mode of transportation has been very beneficial to the locals
and foreigns of Cagayan specially, air transportation. These industries are regarded as one of the
fastest growing sectors in the world economy and being developed in the city is a great opportunity
for Tuguegarao as it has been the site for development of the domestic airport for the region.
The Tuguegarao Airport is a mid-sized airport serving the general area of Tuguegarao and is
accessible to the adjacent municipalities in Cagayan and Northern Isabela. This has promoted the
socio-economic state of the city due to its benefits in the progress of tourism in the city. The
accessibility of the airport brought huge impact to the locals as for the fast travels to their
destination, domestically .
Anent this, this study generally aims to identify the issues and concerns present at the
existing Tuguegarao Airport and furnish possible solutions for the issues and concerns. This study
also aims to bridge the gaps on the advantages and disadvantages present at the existing
airport.
Through this case study, recommendations and possible alterations drawn can be a basis for
development for further better utilization of the Tuguegarao Airport.
III. ISSUES AND CONCERNS
This study aims to identify the issues and concerns at hand of the Tuguegarao Airport.
Specifically, it aims to identify the different issues in;
Space Planning. Passengers concerns have been the inconvenience when it comes to
boarding. The pre-departure area is located at the second floor of the building while the boarding
area is at the ground floor which makes it inconvenient for the passengers to go up and down
considering the number of luggages the passengers have to carry.

Passenger Amenities. An issue the passengers have faced was the lack of retail shops like
food stalls at the holding area.
IV. LOCALE OF THE STUDY
This study was conducted in Tuguegarao Airport located at Barangay Pengue-Ruyu,
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, Philippines. The specificity of the study is at Badaje St., Pengue-Ruyu
which is the main location of the airport.
V. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
Below are the identified advantages and disadvantages of this study:
Advantages
1. Promotes Socio-economic benefits to the continuous progress in tourism of the city of
Tuguegarao and the whole region.
2. Provides more comfort and satisfaction to its users.

3. Accessibility is equipped because it is in the city.
4. Maximizing the airport’s full potential.
Disadvantages
1. It has a small land area which disqualifies it to be an international airport.
2. Competes with the available land transportation.
VI. POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS
Possible alternative solutions for the identified issues and concerns are addressed as follows;
The concerns of the users on the inconvenience due to diminished space planning can be
alternatively solved through furnishing a temporary holding area enough for the passengers whose
flights are closely up-next. This will address their concern of inconvenience due to the need of
going up the holding area at the second floor and down to the pre-departure area. Another concern
was the lack of retail shops, specifically food stalls at the holding area where passengers wait for
their flights. Possible alternative solution to this concern can be through temporarily providing
spaces for small food stalls located near or at the holding area for the users to utilized while waiting.
These possible solutions are temporary and are addressed for further development until
assured to be feasible. Further development for these solutions are drawn in the recommendations.
VII. RECOMMENDATION
Based on the findings of the study, the recommendations are as follows:
A conduct of expansion and widening on the existing area of the airport is recommended.
According to the Invitation to Bid from the Department of Transport and Commission, there is a
proposed development project for the Tuguegarao Airport with a budget of P 33.7 million. This
project involves the expansion or rehabilitation of the existing passenger terminal building (15.5 m
x 60 ) including utilities, widening of runway (7.5 m both sides), and taxi way (1.5 m both sides),
and site development. Through this, the mentioned issues and concerns can be addressed properly
with further modifications from the proposed alternative solutions.
VIII. CONCLUSION
The development of the Tuguegarao Airport would be of great benefits to the locals and
foreign users, and to the tourism of Cagayan as well. Addressing the issues and concerns and
bridging the gaps between the advantages and disadvantaged of the present airport would also
eradicate the possible lacking in the development of the airport. The proper solutions for the present
problems of the airport will bring comfort and satisfaction to its users which will radiate benefits to
the community as well. Furthermore, the project's success provides insightful information that can
be used to other community facilities of a similar nature.
