Task 1. Ask and answer the following questions. The line graph below shows the production of paper,
wood pulp and sawn-wood in the UK from 1980 to 2000.
1. What kind of graph is it?

It is a line graph.
2. What basic information does the graph provide?
The graph provides the production of paper, wood pulp and sawn-wood in the UK from 1980 to 2000.
3. How many lines/ types of bars are there in the graph?
There’re three lines of bars in the graph.
4. What does each line/ bar on the graph indicate?
The blue line indicates paper & packaging, the red line point to Sawn-wood and the green one indicates
Wood pulp.
5. What is measured on the vertical axis? What unit of measurement is used?
The vertical axis measures the production of forest industry and the unit of measurement is million tones.
6. What is measured on the horizontal axis?
On the horizontal axis measures the years.
7. What major trends do you see in the graph?
The major trends showed a downward trend during the first ten years and I can see a steady rise at the
last ten years. The highest point was paper & packaging and the lowest point belonged to Sawn-wood.
8. What are some of the most important features of this graph (highest point, lowest point, etc.)?
The most essential features of this graph are:
- The starting point of three lines were under 250 million tones and the ending point of paper & packaging
was the highest point (350 million tones).
- There was a intersection point in 1990 between Sawn-wood and Wood pulp and it was 150 million
tones.
- The graph hit the lowest point around 140 million tones and it belonged to Sawn-wood.
- There was a growth of paper & packaging from 240 million tones to 350 million tones over the whole
period.
- The million tones of wood pulp oscillated between 175 and 150 over the 20-year period.
- The amount of Sawn-wood started at 200 million tones, decreasing moderately in 1990 before finishing
at approximately 140 million tones.
9. How will the details be organized in the body paragraph?
In the body paragraph, the details will be arranged:
- Starting point and ending point of the line graph
- Periods with similar and contrasting trends
- The information of each line (describe the fluctuation)
- Intersection points
- Lowest and highest point
Task 2. Ask and answer the following questions. The chart below shows the number of passengers who
used public transportation in Somewhere town from 2012 to 2015.
1. What kind of graph is it?

It is a bar chart.
2. What basic information does the graph provide?
The main data is the number of passengers who used public transport in Somewhere town from 2012 to
2015.
3. How many lines/ types of bars are there in the graph?
The chart has three types of bars.
4. What does each line/ bar on the graph indicate?
The blue bar shows the use of tram, the green bar indicates bus and the yellow one indicates train.
5. What is measured on the vertical axis? What unit of measurement is used?
The vertical axis measures the year and the unit of measurement is year.
6. What is measured on the horizontal axis?
The horizontal axis measures the number of passengers.
7. What major trends do you see in the graph?
Overall, the amount of passengers who used tram went up dramatically from 2012 to 2015 while the use
of bus fluctuated over the period shown. Besides that train had the lowest number of passengers for the
majority of the chart.
8. What are some of the most important features of this graph (highest point, lowest point, etc.)?
The most significant details of the chart are:
- It is clear that the use of tram in 2015 had the highest number of people. On the other hand, people who
went by train having the lowest number for the majority of the period.
- As can be seen from the chart, the use of bus fluctuated steadily during the length of time.
- The use of train reached a peak of about 80 thousands at the beginning of the year, then it decreased
dramatically in 2013 before climbing at nearly 60 thousands people.
- The chart showed an upward trend of tram during the 3-year period.
9. How will the details be organized in the body paragraph?
The body paragraph will focus on:
- The overview at the starting.
- The highest and the lowest number of passengers.
- Periods with contrasting trends.
- The general information of bar chart.
