WHY IS THERE A NEED TO STUDY BUILDING SCIENCE?
Buildings use a lot of energy and those energy use was concerning the environmental and
economic impacts. Most residential buildings have the biggest component of energy use especially in
heating and cooling the environment (Dickens, 2018). Building science is a critical part wherein you need
to physically manage the existing phenomena affecting the building, technically used the environment as
building’s life that will affect positively in thermal comfort and mood of occupants and practically foresee
the building’s life and age in years to come and anticipating the failures to be occur. Building science is
often applied to present construction and, yet critically important for renovating existing buildings for
structural stability and resistance the new impacts be faced. Materials also should rely on how it will
adapt the historical precedence of the structure not that it is readily available and trends.
Specifically, contemporary building science is a broad discipline that is concerned with the full life cycle
of buildings, including, policy (codes and standards), planning, design, construction, commissioning,
facilities management, forensics and rehabilitation, restoration and retrofit, preservation and conservation,
and demolition (deconstruction) and recycling. The disciplinary involvement ranges from the physical
and engineering sciences, to economics, political science, behavioral sciences, life sciences,
and architecture (Kesik, 2019). Contemporary building science enables to open the door for innovation,
and this innovation relies on gradually refining the past precedents. Presently, Modern building science
was copied and developed from successful precedents and handed down in the generation due to large
number of failures encountered. Innovation in modern architecture relies on building science and
the systems approach to ensure that building performance meets the expectations of building owners,
inhabitants, and society (Kesik, 2019).
Furthermore, building science is important for both new construction and existing buildings. For new
construction, building science can be used to design and build buildings that are more resistant to the
effects of the environment and that use less energy. For existing buildings, building science can be used to
diagnose and solve problems, such as leaks, drafts and condensation. It is a relatively new field, and there
is still much to learn its usage. However, the use of building science principles can help to create better
buildings and to improve the comfort, safety and energy efficiency of both new and existing buildings
(Parker, 2023).
In conclusion, Architects are trained professionals who are experts in the field of designing and
constructing buildings. They will ensure that your new building meets all the necessary requirements and
looks exactly the way you want it to and with the help with building science, you will achieve the safety,
comfort and energy-efficient home.
