SSC CGL Exam Preparation Guide

1. SSC CGL Exam Structure

The SSC CGL exam is divided into four tiers:

- Tier-I: Computer-Based Examination (Objective Type)


- Tier-II: Computer-Based Examination (Objective Type)
- Tier-III: Descriptive Paper (Pen and Paper Mode)
- Tier-IV: Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test (where applicable)

Tier-I Exam Pattern:


- Mode: Online (Computer-Based Test)
- Total Questions: 100 (25 per section)
- Total Marks: 200 (2 marks per question)
- Sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude,
and English Comprehension
- Duration: 60 minutes
- Negative Marking: 0.50 marks per wrong answer

Tier-II Exam Pattern:


- Mode: Online (Computer-Based Test)
- Papers: Quantitative Abilities, English Language and Comprehension, Statistics (for
specific posts), General Studies (Finance and Economics for specific posts)
- Total Marks: 200 marks per paper
- Duration: 2 hours for each paper
- Negative Marking: 0.25 marks for Paper-II and 0.50 marks for others

Tier-III Exam Pattern:


- Mode: Pen and Paper (Descriptive)
- Marks: 100 marks
- Duration: 1 hour
- Essay, Letter, Application Writing (in English or Hindi)

Tier-IV:
- Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test: For posts like Tax Assistant, Assistant Section
Officer, etc.
2. SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:
- Graduation from a recognized university or equivalent.

Age Limit:
- Varies for different posts, typically ranging from 18 to 32 years. Age relaxation is provided
for reserved categories as per government rules.

3. SSC CGL Preparation Tips

General Intelligence and Reasoning:


- Practice previous year’s questions and puzzles daily.
- Focus on topics like syllogism, analogies, coding-decoding, and series.

General Awareness:
- Cover static GK topics like history, geography, polity, and economics.
- Stay updated on current affairs, especially news related to national and international
events, government schemes, and sports.

Quantitative Aptitude:
- Focus on arithmetic topics like percentages, profit and loss, time and work, and simple
interest.
- Solve higher-level topics like algebra, trigonometry, and geometry for Tier-II.

English Comprehension:
- Improve grammar and vocabulary by reading newspapers and books.
- Practice comprehension passages, fill-in-the-blanks, and error spotting.

Statistics and Economics (for specific posts):


- Focus on key concepts in statistics and economics, especially topics outlined in the
syllabus for Paper-III and Paper-IV.
