WORKSHEET 1.4
KINETIC MOLECULAR THEORY

Name: Kyla C. Pardinas Section: 12-SYMPONIA

INSTRUCTION: Answer the following questions with concisely, briefly, and with complete
thought. Please be guided by the scoring rubrics.

Note: Have a copy of your answer by the next face to face meeting for your
participation and recitation.

1. How do you describe the behavior of milo powder when you put it on (1) very hot
and (2) very cold water? (Note: considering you did not stir them yet)

- When I added Milo powder to very cold water, the powder dissolved slowly and
half of the powder formed, settled or precipitated, but when I added Milo
powder to very hot water, the powder swiftly dissolved. As far as I'm aware and
based on what I know, cold particles travel slowly and are drawn to one another
as a result, leaving little opportunity for other particles to mix in with them. Hot
water molecules travel more quickly than cold water molecules, which is
measured by temperature. Hot water "attacks" the powder more vigorously than
cold water does as a result, causing the powder to dissolve more quickly.

2. How do you know if a liquid is boiling already?

- When a liquid reaches its boiling point, bubbles of gases form within it and rise
to the surface. These bubbles burst into the air. This process is called boiling. If
the boiling liquid is heated more strongly, the temperature does not rise but the
liquid boils more quickly and violently. Water is a simple substance that can be
turned into vapor. When the temperature of the water rises, it produces vapors.
Bubbles appear on the surface of the water because tiny bubbles are formed
inside when water vaporizes.

3. Search for the name of the following change in matter:

a. Solid 🡪 Liquid MELTING
- Melting is the transition of a material from its solid state into its
liquid state.
b. Liquid 🡪 Gas EVAPORATING
- Evaporation is the process by which a material transitions from its
liquid state into its gaseous state.
c. Gas 🡪 Liquid CONDENSATION
- Condensation is the transition of an object from its gaseous state
into its liquid state.
d. Liquid 🡪 Solid FREEZING
- Freezing is a term used to describe the transition of a material from
its liquid state into its solid state.
e. Solid 🡪 Gas SUBLIMATION
- Sublimation is the process through which solids transform
immediately into gases.
f. Gas 🡪 Solid DEPOSITION
- When a material changes states from a gas to a solid, this is called
deposition.

4. Describe the particles of solids, liquids, and gases based from the picture shown
below. Complete the given table.
