Student Grading Using Text Similarity – GitHub
Nov 2022 – May 2023
● Created a system for efficient grading of text-based short
answers using text similarity algorithms.
● Applied Natural Language Processing(NLP) to preprocess
(tokenization, lemmatization, negation, vector representation of
word using TF-IDF) data using Python, NLTK, SciPy, scikit-learn
etc in this project.
● Successfully applied 5 different methods to find the best
similarity measure accuracy such as: Lavenshtein distance, Jaro-
Winkler distance, Cosine Similarity, Hamming Distance and
Jaccard similarity algorithm.
● Used Django to develop a robust and scalable application
following the MVC architecture.
● Consistently followed Django principles and overall coding best
practices throughout the project.
● Implemented security best practices to protect user data using
session and authentication.
● Worked in conjunction with Django Models and MySQL to better
visualise the database using pymysql.
Restaurant: Single Queue Multiple Server – GitHub

Single queue with multiple servers can improve efficiency in fast food
restaurants by reducing wait time and increasing customer throughput.
● Conducted a simulation project on a fast food restaurant using a
single queue with multiple servers.
● Used discrete-event simulation software to run the simulation.
● Collected and analysed data on the average wait time and the
number of customers served.
● Determined that a single queue with multiple servers can
improve the efficiency of the restaurant.
● Reduced the average wait time for customers by 1.501 minutes.
● Increased the number of customers served per hour by 0.9328
customers.

Summary: In this paper we have explored five different text similarity
approaches i.e Lavenshtein distance, Jaro-Winkler distance, Cosine
Similarity, Hamming Distance and Jaccard similarity algorithm to develop
a student grading system for
online text based exams. We have employed these algorithms to
automate the grading process in academia. Our system grades student
work by performing a similarity comparison between the standard
answer to a question provided by the teacher and the student’s
response.
