Section A (40 marks)

Question 1
a) Volume of the 1st cube = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27 cm3
Volume of the 2nd cube = 4 × 4 × 4 = 64 cm3
Volume of the 3rd cube = 5 × 5 × 5 = 125 cm3
Total volume of the cubes = (27 + 64 + 125) cm3 = 216 cm3
Thus, the volume of the new cube is 216 cm3.
3
Therefore, the edge of the new cube = 216  3 6  6  6  6 cm

Question 2
a) In the given figure, AB and CD are parallel lines and EH is a transversal.
Also given that mAFG = 70
Since alternate interior angles of a transversal through two parallel lines are
equal, we have, mDGF = mAFG = 70
Therefore, b = 70
Since CGF and DGF lie on the straight line CD, they form a linear pair.
Therefore, the sum of the angles CGF and DGF is 180.
 mCGF + mDGF = 180
 mCGF + 70 = 180
 mCGF = 180 – 70
 mCGF = 110
b) 3x + 14 ≥ 8
 3x ≥ 8 – 14
 3x ≥ −6
 x ≥ −2

c) a + b + 27 = 45
 a + b = 45 – 27
 a + b = 18
 a = 18 – b

Question 3
a) i. 36 km/hr to m/sec

ii. 75 cm/sec to m/ sec

100 cm = 1 m
75 cm = 0.75 m
So, 75 cm/sec = 0.75 m/sec

b) i. {5 + (5 × 8) ÷ 2 – 3} ÷ (−11)
= {5 + 40 ÷ 2 – 3} ÷ (−11)
= {5 + 20 – 3} ÷ (−11)
= 22 ÷ (−11)
= −2

ii. {63 ÷ (−15 + 8)} – (−3 × 7)

= {63 ÷ (−7)} – (−21)
= −9 + 21
= 12
c) Given, AD = DC and AB = BC
In ΔABD and ΔCBD,
AD = DC (given)
AB = BC (given)
BD = BD (common side)
According to the SSS test for congruence, ΔABD ≅ ΔCBD

Question 4

Thus, the cost price of a dress is Rs. 810

b) Let the width of the garden be w cm.

Then, the length of the garden = 2w cm
Area of a rectangle = length × breadth
 450 = 2w × w
 450 = 2w2
 w2 = 225
w= 225  15
 2w = 2 × 15 = 30 cm
Thus, the length of the garden is 30 cm.

c) Given, AOB is a straight line.

So, (3x + 5) + (2x – 25) = 180° ….(linear pair)
 3x + 5 + 2x – 25 = 180°
 5x – 20 = 180°
 5x = 180 + 20
 5x = 200°
 x = 40°
d) Let the number of sides of the polygon be n.
Given, each interior angle = 140°
Sum of all interior angles = (n – 2) × 180°
(n  2)
Hence, each interior angle of the polygon =  180

 9(n – 2) = 7n
 9n – 18 = 7n
 9n – 7n = 18
 2n = 18
n=9
Thus, the polygon has 9 sides.

Question 5
a) (8a3 + 4a + 5c2) + (4a2 + 8b – 4c2)
= 8a3 + 4a + 5c2 + 4a2 + 8b – 4c2
= 8a3 + 4a2 + 5c2 – 4c 2 + 8b + 4a
= 8a3 + 4a2 + c2 + 8b + 4a
Now, subtracting from (−2a3 + 9a − 5c2 + 8a2 + 6), we get,
(−2a3 + 9a − 5c2 + 8a2 + 6) – (8a3 + 4a2 + c2 + 8b + 4a)
= −2a3 + 9a − 5c2 + 8a2 + 6 – 8a3 – 4a2 – c2 – 8b – 4a
= −2a3 – 8a3 − 5c2 – c2 + 8a2 – 4a2 – 8b – 4a + 9a + 6
= −10a3 − 6c2 + 4a2 – 8b + 5a + 6

Using identity a2 − b2 = (a + b)(a – b)
= {[7(2x + y)] + [8(x – 3y)]}{[7(2x + y)] – [8(x – 3y)]}
