ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
DRESSES FOR A BODY SHAPE
A basic dress can have variety of looks
depending on style details. Different colours,
prints, and position of the bodice darts (side
darts vs neck darts) create two entirely
different looks. Add flared skirts, full sleeves
or collars and you have an endless variety of
fashions.
Both these dresses have the same silhouette
– simple and fitted with a natural waistline –
but differ in style details and fabrications.
Knowing your body is key to finding styles that suit your shape. Whatever your shape, discovering
flattering dresses for your figure will help you look and feel fabulous.
APPLE SHAPE
Apple shape - if you’re fuller around the
middle with little definition at the waist –
with an average to large bust size and
broader upper arms and shoulders.

Tunic dresses or shift dress styles suit the

apple shape as their structure keeps eyes
from drifting to the mid-section of the
body. Swing styles are also flattering, with a
fuller skirt and short hem length balancing
out the body shape to create the illusion
of a smaller waistline.
Pear shape – carries weight on the bottom half PEAR SHAPE
of the body, with hips wider than the
shoulders, a petite upper half and defined waist.
The goal is to balance out your body and
accentuate the top half. The most effective way
is by opting for wide hem dresses that skim
the hips and thighs.

Fit and flare dress styles are the perfect

dresses for pear shaped bodies as they hide
the bottom half with flattering shapes for
wider hips. Long sleeved dresses, patterned
sleeves or embellished necklines and shoulders,
can also draw attention to the upper body.
Inverted triangle shape – the top half of the
body is wider than the bottom, with

broader shoulders, narrow hips and a large
bust. The aim is to understate the upper
half of the body and add more shape to the
bottom.
Tunic dresses with a wider hem to balance
out the body or floaty maxi dresses create
the illusion of fuller hips and thighs.
Choose fabric and fit that accommodates
your ample assets. Wrap dresses in stretch
jersey or shape-skimming chiffon are ideal
for creating the illusion of an hourglass
shape by balancing out the body and
drawing eyes to your waist.

Rectangle shape – is well-proportioned
with small hips small shoulders and no
defined waist. This straight, elongated
silhouette with a small bust has many
advantages, as anything suits your shape or
flatters your figure.
Skater dresses are a good option, as the
clinched waist and full skirt helps create
some curves and an hourglass silhouette.
Sleeveless dresses are also perfect for
showing off long arms and shoulders.
Hourglass shape – has a clearly defined
waist and well-proportioned hips and bust.
HOURGLASS SHAPE
Women with this shape have an equal
width at the top and bottom of their body.
Fitted and belted styles are more flattering
as they help define the waist and showcase
your shape.
Vintage style fit and flare dresses
accentuate your assets by clinching your
waist. Modern midi dresses are a hip-
hugging update on the 50s-inspired wiggle
dress (worn by Marilyn Monroe). Wrap
dresses are also perfect as they draw
attention to your waistline and define your
bust without any unwanted volume.
