Notes and Recommendations

Upgrade Instructions
CP4-R V2: Please confirm that your processor is a V2 model before loading FW manually. To confirm,
connect to the processor via the text console in Toolbox and issue the command "ver -v". The model
number on the first line will show "CP4-R (HW Ver 2) Cntrl Eng". If the wrong file is used there are no
side effects, and the Firmware upgrade will fail.

CP4-R V1: Please confirm that your processor is a V1 model before loading FW manually. To confirm,
connect to the processor via the text console in Toolbox and issue the command "ver -v". The model
number on the first line will show "CP4-R Cntrl Eng". If the wrong file is used there are no side effects,
and the Firmware upgrade will fail.

DM-NAX – Best Practices

To ensure a successful upgrade when using any previous version of Crestron Home with multiple NAX units,
follow these tips:
Note: if it’s a newly deployed NAX system with Crestron Home 3.8, or there is only 1 NAX in the system, then
there is no need to follow these steps.
1. Ensure all NAX devices are online with Crestron Home
2. Ensure all NAX devices have the same set of profiles, and providers, in the same order
3. Upgrade the NAX firmware on all devices
4. Upgrade to Crestron Home 3.8

Once the system is done upgrading, users can continue to use their system on Crestron Home
3.8 without any additional setup. Profiles and providers are then automatically synchronized
across NAX units by Crestron Home.

Note: Any subsequent NAX should be restored and updated to the latest after step 4.
Sonos – Best Practices
To ensure successful integration with Sonos, follow these tips:

• Set up your Sonos device and assign it a room name in the Sonos app first.
• A Sonos device can use a wired or wireless connection. However, after installation, this setting
cannot be changed. Changing the setting at runtime can cause problems in controlling the Sonos
unit.
o If the wireless network is set up for the Sonos system, connecting or disconnecting the
LAN cable will make the Sonos unit switch between the wired and wireless networks.
• Do not create a room name longer than 12 characters for the Sonos device in the Sonos App.
This room name will be used for the device name in Pyng which has a limit of 12 characters.
• The line-out level for a Sonos Connect needs to be configured as fixed. Volume control is
handled by the Crestron amp.
o The Sonos app will display “Fixed Volume” instead of the volume bar with volume
controls for all Connects used in Pyng.
• Multiple Sonos systems cannot be placed on the same network. Each Sonos system has a system
ID and Pyng will only discover Sonos units that are part of the last discovered Sonos system (The
last system ID wins)
o This can lead to behavior where Pyng sometimes discovers units from the first Sonos
system or it discovers only the second system (depending on the last received system
ID) but never both.

3rd Party Drivers – Best Practices

To ensure a successful upgrade when using any 3rd party driver, including Extensions, follow these steps:
• If using 3rd party drivers in the system, including Extensions, it is recommended to verify that
the 3rd party driver is working correctly after the update.
• It is also recommended to check the help file and driver version of the 3rd party drivers to see if
there are any relevant updates for those drivers.
• In the event the driver is not working, please contact the author of the driver to troubleshoot
and validate functionality.

System Requirements and Dependencies

• See the Maximum System sizes here: https://docs.crestron.com/en-

us/8525/Content/CP4R/System-Design.htm
• When integrating with other 3-Series processors and separate touch screens, use Smart
Graphics v2.13.05, or later.
• To learn IR drivers, use Crestron Toolbox 3.03.332.00, or later.
Operational Installation/Upgrade Instructions
Press “Check for Updates” in the Installer Settings, then follow the instructions.
Alternatively, you can update manually using the Package Update Tool in Toolbox.

Known Limitations
• When changing com ports on a working security system to a new com port, if you see the
security system drop offline after a few minutes, a 1-time reboot of the processor may be
required to establish the COM connection permanently.

Color Tuning Support (DMX-C)

• Up to 85 Crestron fixtures supported
• Crestron Tunable Fixtures will turn off during the DIN-GWDL Firmware update.

Apple HomeKit

• Max number of Apple TVs using the HomeKit connection is 5

• Only 1 TSR-310 per room
• It is recommended to connect the Apple TV to a power controller in case communication is lost,
and a power cycle will recover the Apple TV
