IX. Rationale of the Project

Have you ever looked at someone and wondered, what is going on inside their head? Are they
scared? Are they shy? Or are they just tensed or anxious? This is a common problem for high school
students nowadays. They are muted and zipped because of factors such as limited ability to speak up and
fully express themselves. This is where Project IMEK takes place. At an early age, the ability to speak is
such a crucial factor in the advancing growth and development of every student. Whether inside the
classroom or their personal life. To be able to open their mouth is a step further but this project aims to let
them speak, as the title IMEK perceives Inspirasyon, Motibasyon, Edukasyon, and Kalakasan sa
Komunikasyon.

In today’s academic world, being able to communicate well is just as important as understanding
the subject matter. Project IMEK focuses on helping students express their thoughts clearly and
confidently. When students can articulate their ideas effectively, they not only perform better
academically but also enjoy a richer, more engaging learning experience.

Public speaking can be daunting for many students. The fear of speaking in front of others can
hold them back from participating fully in class. Project IMEK tackles this head-on by teaching students
practical techniques to manage their anxiety. As they gain confidence, they become more comfortable
speaking up, whether it’s during a class discussion or a presentation. This boost in self-assurance often
spills over into other areas of their lives, helping them grow as individuals.

Strong communication skills are a key factor in academic success. When students can
communicate their ideas effectively, they are more likely to participate in class, ask questions, and engage
with the material. This active participation leads to a deeper understanding of the subject matter and better
academic performance. Project IMEK helps students develop these skills, making them more effective
learners.

Looking ahead, the ability to speak well in public is a valuable asset for any student. Whether it’s
for oral exams, presentations, or debates, being able to present ideas clearly and persuasively is crucial.
Project IMEK prepares students for these challenges, giving them the tools they need to succeed in higher
education and beyond.

Moreover, students who are confident communicators often become leaders in their academic
communities. Project IMEK aims to inspire students to take on these leadership roles, fostering a culture
of effective communication and collaboration. By developing these skills, students can make a positive
impact on their peers and their school environment.

To make the learning process even more engaging, Project IMEK introduces the “REACH FOR
THE STARS” system. This star ranking system encourages active participation by rewarding students
with star stamps for every contribution they make during class. At the end of the project, students can
exchange their accumulated stars for treats and gifts and have the chance to be recognized as “STELLAR
SPEAKER”. This system not only motivates students to participate more but also makes the learning
experience fun and rewarding.

This project offers a variety of enjoyable activities, ensuring students learn effortlessly, staying
true to our objective of “Matututo sila ng hindi nila namamalayan.” Interactive activities cover public
speaking essentials, overcoming stage fright, and tips to be comfortable speakers. Public speaking
challenges add a fun, low-pressure way to refine their skills—turning learning into a delightful adventure.

X. Objectives

This project proposal aims to give students an idea of how public speaking is necessary in their
academic lives. How it can drastically alter their experience as students in the academic manner and how
this can help in their daily exploration of knowledge.

The main goal of this proposal is as follows:

 To educate students on the fundamentals of public speaking. It’s importance and significance in
their academic life. This includes the introduction to public speaking which will tackle the basics
and introductory ideas to the said topic.
 Equip students with the skills needed to become confident and effective communicators through
public speaking training and practice.
 Support personal development and empower students to unlock their full potential, ultimately
creating positive and lasting impacts within their academic pursuits and community.

XI. Description of the Project

Our Project entitled “IMEK” is a skill-building program designed to empower

students from Bolbok Integrated National High School to become confident and effective
communicators. This project exposes high school students to the concept of public
speaking, which will serve as a foundation for development. This will also help them to
acquire skills such as critical thinking skills which can benefit their academics and
careers in the future. This Project IMEK transcends the boundaries of a typical public
speaking program, it is a transformative journey that fosters personal growth and
empowers individuals to unlock their full potential, leaving a lasting impact on their
communities.

XII. Strategies and Methods of Implementation

Project IMEK aims to empower high school students to overcome their fears and anxieties related
to public speaking. The project focuses on four key areas: Inspirasyon (Inspiration), Motibasyon
(Motivation), Edukasyon (Education), and Kalakasan sa Komunikasyon (Strength in Communication). To
inspire students, the proponents will introduce themselves, and share stories and experiences to inspire the
students. A system of recognition and rewards will be implemented alongside interactive activities for
motivation. Education will be addressed through discussion on public speaking fundamentals, and
activities. Lastly, the strength in communication will be identified through performance.

Project IMEK starts with a simple introduction to public speaking, encouraging students to raise
awareness about the importance of communication through peer sharing. This initial step sets the stage
for students to become more engaged and interested in improving their speaking skills. To keep students
motivated, Project IMEK offers fun and engaging activities in a relaxed, low-pressure setting. These
activities are designed to make the learning process enjoyable, helping students build their skills without
feeling overwhelmed.

A monitoring and evaluation sheet will be distributed starting on the second day of the project
implementation up to the end wherein the students earn stars for the qualities that a public speaker possess
and each stars has a certain point value. The accumulated stars will track their progress and earn rewards
based on the total points gathered which will be given on the last day of the project.

The implementation plan includes specific activities for 6 days. The project also has an activity
called “Capture the crew” where the proponents will take a photo for documentation at the end of the day
to give publicity to the students who participated in the project IMEK.

On Day 1, focus on Inspirasyon, the day will begin with an opening prayer, followed by an
energizer dance for 2 minutes to boost energy and engagement—next, a short introduction of the
members in a creative way. Followed by a 10-minute activity entitled “Talk it out”. Then, proceed with
an activity called “ Ball of Fame” which will be done for 10 minutes. In this activity, all they need to do is
to guess the famous persons related to public speaking Lastly, they will have a short recap or takeaway
from that day's discussion.

In Day 2's Motibasyon Session, the proponents focus on building motivation through teamwork.
Quiet Opening Prayer, where the students reflect upon how they would like to use their time. The
morning starts with an Energizer Dance to help the students get their hooves movin’ and shakin', followed
by a simple but fun routine that makes it easy for anyone in any division. They then take part in an
activity called Motivation Bingo and mark off speaking milestones, which helps them reflect on how far
they have come. Tower and Teamwork, The primary event, is the Tower of Teamwork, in this activity,
the students will be grouped, using paper, they will make a tower in their strategy and the tower must
stand still for 5 seconds. A Recap is done with a Closing Prayer, for them to review every lesson they
learned and the teamwork within themselves. This activity is full of happiness and serious collaboration
assists students to comprehend determination, and how they can use it in their public speaking
assessment.

Day 3 focused on Edukasyon, the proponents will focus on giving knowledge about what should
a student do when public speaking, and with that, the day will start with an opening prayer followed by an
energizer to make the students alert and awake before proceeding to the 10-minute discussion for the
importance of public speaking and it's benefits. After the discussion, an interactive activity called the
"emoticon experience" follows where its purpose is to have an idea of the student's emotions or feelings
when doing public speaking. The day wraps up with a five-minute recap of the covered topics and a
closing prayer to end the day's agenda.

Day 4 Begin with a short prayer to set a positive tone followed by an energizer to engage
everyone with fun. Discussion of the Do's or the 3Ps (Prepare, Practice, and Perform) as the
fundamentals when doing public speaking. Conduct a charades activity related to public speaking themes
to reinforce learning and encourage participation. Lastly, finish it by concluding with a recap of the key
points discussed during the lesson and the activities.

Day 5, ‘Kalakasan sa Komunikasyon’, a frontier approach should be used where an opening

prayer should be said together with a short energizing dance to mark a lively mood. This shall be
followed by a brief review of what transpired during the previous two days of the education period with
clarification of key aspects that were learned concerning public speaking so that the participants gain
confidence in such knowledge. The main activity, ‘Sell Your Idea,’ will allow the participants to present
their ideas as it would happen in the real world in instances where one has to speak to an audience. This
may be done in the form of pretending to make presentations or actual presentations, with each participant
being critiqued on their level of effectiveness in message delivery. Then a short activity titled “Spread
Positivity Would Be Encouraged” can teach them that even in such a situation, a positive attitude is
required. Finally, prayer and reviews allow participants to process everything learned during the lesson
and improve their communication abilities in preparation for future public speaking appearances.

Day 6 starts with a brief and motivational prayer followed by self-esteem building, which focuses on the
student's reflection. After the reflection, the proponents will distribute sash and medals to the participants
of the project. Then proceed to the appreciation for the student's active and valuable cooperation

How does the “REACH FOR THE STARS” fit into the overall monitoring and evaluation mechanics of
Project IMEK?

1. Pre-Project Assessment:

● Baseline: The chart serves as a baseline for each student’s starting point in public speaking skills.
You can use the initial ratings to see where students are strongest and weakest.

2. Ongoing Monitoring:

● Engagement and Participation: The star system encourages consistent participation in workshops
and activities. Students are more likely to engage when they know their efforts are being recognized.

● Skill Development: The chart allows for ongoing tracking of individual progress in specific public
speaking skills. This provides valuable data for facilitators to adjust their teaching methods and
provide targeted support.

● Qualitative Feedback: While the stars provide quantitative data, the chart also allows for qualitative
feedback. Facilitators can observe students’ body language, facial expressions, and interactions with
peers to gain a deeper understanding of their progress and challenges.

3. Post-Project Evaluation:

● Impact Assessment: By comparing the initial star ratings with the final ratings, you can assess the
overall impact of the project on students’ public speaking skills.

● Student Growth: The chart provides a visual representation of individual student growth, which can
be shared with parents/guardians to demonstrate the project’s impact.

● Project Effectiveness: The chart can be used to identify areas where the project was particularly
successful or where improvements are needed. For example, if students consistently struggle with a
specific skill, it might indicate a need for more targeted instruction or practice activities.

4. Continuous Improvement:

● Data-Driven Adjustments: The data gathered from the chart can be used to inform future project
planning and curriculum development.

● Reward System Refinement: The prize system can be adjusted based on student feedback and
observed effectiveness. For example, if certain prizes are more motivating than others, those can be
prioritized.

OVERALL

The “Reach for the Stars, My Public Speaking Growth Monitor,” complemented by a prize
system, is an effective resource for tracking student progress, offering a visual and measurable approach
to monitor advancements of individuals who will be participating. It also plays a crucial role in evaluating
the project’s effectiveness by measuring its impact on students’ public speaking abilities and pinpointing
areas for enhancement. Furthermore, the prize system boosts engagement and motivation, promoting
participation and creating a sense of accomplishment among elementary students. By incorporating this
method into the broader monitoring and evaluation framework, Project IMEK guarantees a fun, engaging,
and meaningful experience for all participants.

XVI. Plans to Ensure the Sustainability of the Project

To make sure Project IMEK continues helping students with their public speaking skills long after it
ends, we need a strong plan to keep it going. The focus is on making public speaking a regular part of
school life, encouraging ongoing participation, and offering support for students as they grow.

Firstly, a great way to do this is by integrating public speaking into the everyday curriculum. Teachers
can add speaking activities to subjects like English, History, and Science, where

Students can present ideas, debate, or share research with classmates. This way, students get regular
practice without needing extra time outside of class. If public speaking is also part of their grades,
students will see it as an important skill for their overall success.

Additionally, creating a public speaking club is another way to keep the momentum. The club can
offer students a place to practice and get feedback in a safe environment. They can participate in fun
activities like impromptu speeches, debates, and storytelling. The club could also host events like speech
festivals or competitions, motivating students to keep improving. Students who stood out during Project
IMEK could continue growing, while new students get introduced to public speaking.

Also, peer mentoring is important. Students who are already good at public speaking can mentor
others, offering tips and feedback. This helps both the mentor and the mentee improve, building a
supportive culture where students help each other grow.

For long-term success, teachers need to be trained in how to guide students in public speaking. Schools
can provide workshops to help teachers learn new techniques. With the right tools, teachers can keep
supporting students during class presentations and other speaking activities.

In summary, keeping Project IMEK alive requires the whole school’s involvement. By making public
speaking a regular part of the curriculum, starting a club, hosting events, encouraging peer mentoring, and
training teachers, the school can make sure students continue to develop their speaking skills. By also
using digital resources and involving the wider community, the impact of Project IMEK can last for years
to come, helping students become confident, effective communicators.
