1 . अ यः – ीराजीवा व थलिनलयरमाह वा लोलात् लीला ात् मुरारे
ः नािभप!े िन"त#$ ि%युगमुखिशशोः आनने षु लोकमा,ा श-.ा$े न अ/0माणं अ ोकं िद ं पयः इित िवबुधैः शङ् 9माना मधुरमधुझरी पुनातु ॥ May the stream of sweet honey, which is falling into the navel-lotus of Vishnu, the foe of Mura, flowing down from the tremulous sportive lotus held by Lakshmi, who resides in the chest of lotus-eyed Lord Vishnu and which is considered by the Gods to be the divine nectar, being poured in plenty by Goddess Lakshmi, the mother of all the worlds, into the mouths of her four-headed child through a conch, purify (all of us). 2 . अ यः – का=ीम>लम>न? म#खनः कना0टभूभृद्गुरोः िदग$का$यशसः ताताचाय0? यम् भािगने यम् िवधुः अ? अ ोकाEरकतु0ः िव%Fणे ः अGयगुरोः पु,ः ीरघुनाथदीि तकिवः गुणैः पूण0ः एधते॥ Poet Raghunatha Dikshitha, who prospers with all the virtues, is the son of Appayya Guru (Appayya Dikshitha), an eminent scholar and performer of Jyotisthoma and other sacrifices, whom the people know to be the nephew of Tatarya, the preceptor of the ruler of Karnataka(Krishnaraya), the performer of many sacrifices, who adorned Kanchi and whose popularity had spread in all directions. 3. त9सुतः तक – वेदा>त – त>? – @याकृCतDच>तकः वे -टाEरी @यEतं व वगण ु ादशG वधIे ॥ His (Raghunatha Dikshita’s) son, Venkatadhwari, a poet and a great thinker in shatras like Nyaya, Vedanta, Mimamsa and Vyakarana, composes a Champu by name ‘Vishwagunadarsha’, a mirror reflecting the virtues of the world. 4. अ यः - यLिप पLं MLं िवLतेिवगLं तत् सतां न बN गLं च पLं िवजहत् बुधाOाLं न .ितपLतेिह तयोः उभयोः .योगः आमोद भूमोदयं आदQेिह मा#Eक मृ%ीकयोः सRः क? मनसेन Oदे त् ? Beautifully composed Poetry, bereft of Prose, though abundantly available cannot be appreciated by the connoisseurs; and Prose, deprived of Poetry cannot be cherished by the scholars. As such, a combination of Prose and Poetry (Champu) gives immense pleasure. Who would not be pleased with the taste of honey, mixed with raisins? 5. अ>वयः – कदाDचत ् व वावलोकZपह ृ या समानवेषम ् कृशानु – व वावसुनामधेयम ् ग>धवयु_मम ् वमानम ् आTU गगने चचार ॥ Once, desirous to see the world, two divine musicians Krushanu and Vishwavasu, who were dressed alike, getting into their celestial car, set out in the sky. Among them, 6. अ>वयः – अकृशासूयः कृशानःु परु ोभाDगपदं गतः व वावसःु व वगण ु dहण कौतक ु f अभत ू ्॥ Krushanu, who was envious, occupied the front seat, the seat of ‘Purobhagi’ (Purobhagi also means a fault-finder). But, Vishwavasu was eager to accept the virtues of the world. सूय वणनम ् DESCRIPTION OF THE SUN After occupying their respective positions, Vishwavasu, who was acquainted with the essence of all the Vedas, looking at the rising Sun in front of him, bowed down. Vishwavasu: 7. कोकस>ततेः VWचय0XतोYग0गुरवेछायाpबrबोकलोलाय छा>दसsयोCतषे नमः ॥ Salutatins to Sun God, the preceptor who causes the flock of Chakravaka birds to break their vow of celibacy, the possessor of power(radiance) testified by his beloved wife Chaya. Krushanu: O Vishwavasu! Why do you salute this hot Sun, who dries up the entire world ? Look, 8. अ>वयः – अहह अयं वसुमान ् दvनान ् पा>थान ् आतपा>धान ् वधIे । पz ृ वीं शु|कां रचयCततरां च ओषधीः शोषयCत । Eलाि>त – शाि>त – •दानां कासाराणां वभवः हरCत । एवं Zवतः •ूरZय अZयभाZवतः गण ु लवकथा का ? It is a sad thing that Sun who possesses innumerable number of rays, blinds the vision of the fatigued travellers with his dazzling light, dries up the herbs and the entire earth excessively, and robs the wealth of the lakes which remove fatigue. Is there even a small quantity/iota of virtue in this hard – hearted / cruel Sun? Vishwavasu: O Krushanu! Why do you abuse even the Sun God? You, fault finder! Listen – 9. अ>वयः यः घिृ |टˆभः विृ |टं आरच‰य जगतः तिु |टं सरv सि|ट नण ृ ां ‹ि|टषु Œाक् पुि|टं वˆशनि|ट िZथरं •वा>तं पनि|ट अमुं •ाŽानां अपवगमागदं प!ागृहोZािसनं ु दं Lोभूषणं पष समZतलोकस• ू णं कः नZतौCत? Who will not praise this Sun, who is the benefactor of the world and an ornament to the sky, giving immense happiness to the world by showering rain with the help of his rays, producing extra-ordinary power in the eyes of people / humans immediately / within no time, destroying the darkness that covers the night and bringing joy to the lotus, the abode of Lakshmi? 10. अ>वयः – जनाः तमो वमDधनम ् र वम ् यदा न प यि>त तदा तत ् द“ु दनम ् कथयि>त । असौ सरोगताम ् अ भोजतCतम ् DधनोCत च दे हभत ृ ाम ् सरोगताम ् धुनोCत । People call it a bad day when they don’t see the Sun, who drives away darkness. The Sun blooms the group of lotuses in the lake and cures the ailments of the people. 11. अ>वयः - पाशायुध – यम – बलˆभ>मा”तेशा“दकेषु भूयZसु आशा पालेषु जाd9सु अमी भासुरा भूसुराLाः शुDचतया •Cत“दवसं काल?येऽ प यZमै •ायः अ—य•दानं कुवते सा एषा ,यीिवLा इव सव लोकान ् पुनाना र वमयी तपCत ॥ The Vedas themselves are glowing while purifying the worlds in the form of Sun, to whom the pure hearted and powerful classes like Brahmin, etc offer their respectful offering three times a day, which is more than that offered to other vigilant protectors of directions, like Varuna, Yama, Indra, Vayu, Ishwara and so on. 12. अ>वयः – कृतp?दशपोषणं कृशरथाRस$ोषणं पशाचकुलभीषणं पथ ृ ुतम छटापेषणं वनšगदशोषणं व“हतवा›रजो>मेषणं नभःZथलvभूषणं पूषणं ननु नमः कु”त ॥ Cerainly offer salutations to Pushana(Sun), who nourishes the Gods, gives pleasure to the Chakravaka birds that suffer from the pain of separation, frightens the demons, destroys the thick cover of darkness, cures the diseases of humble devotees, expands the lotuses and adorns the sky. Praising the Lord in this way and joining his palms, Vishwavasu along with Krushanu, took the celectial car near the Lord and offered salutations to the exceedingly glorious Lord Narayana, who adorns the centre of Solar sphere. 13. अ>वयः – पदाCन अ>वय•मे एव अिZत । Salutations to Narayana, who drives away the darkness of ignorance staying in the solar disc, brings delight to the eyes of lotus- seated Lakshmi, protects those who take refuge under his feet, resides in all the creatures in the form of soul,and who is the ocean of commendable virtues, whom the six deformations(Shadvikaras) have quit by themselves. Again being enlightened by devotion, 14. अ>वयः – भानुभानुदलदrजलोचनं भEतलोकभवपाशमोचनम ् तामरसवाˆसनीसखं हे मवणG धाम इह मे सुखम ् सौCत ॥ I am delighted by the golden prowess of Vishnu, whose eyes are like the lotuses blown by the sunlight and who, being the companion of lotus-seated Lakshmi, liberates the group of his devotees from the bonds of this world. Krushanu: Oh Vishwavasu! Though possessing of the judgement, how come you consider this cruel Narayana worthy of praise? For, 15. अ>वयः – आदौ Zवेन Cनžखलं जगत ् वरDचतं Zवेन एव संरŸ तं तत ् ˆभ>दन ् ह>त एषः मुकु>दः Cन>दोDचतः। जगCत उ>मIः अ प उIमान ् फलत£न ् उ[ाL चा£दकैः उ¤लाZय Zवयं उि¥छन I ¦कम ्? Cछ9वा अ प न>दCत ¦कम ्? Alas! Mukunda himself destroys happily the entire world that he himself had created and protected. Is he not blameworthy? Will any one, even a mad person on this earth, reap joy in uprooting the best of fruit-bearing trees, which he himself had earlier raised and nurtured with pure water? And also, 16. यः दपभरतः ZवानुŽाम ् अनवा§य ZवाŽां वल घेत तदा च¨डः लौ¦कक नप ृ ः अˆस ”षा इह तZय एव द¨डं तनोCत । ह>त यः तु अ>तयामी नारायणः Zवयं भ वनः अपथे •व9य •ुधा तान ् नारके पातयCत सः Cनघण ृ ः न ¦कम ् ॥ A worldly king, though furious, punishes only him who does not seek his permission or him who violates his orders. But, what a pity! Narayana, being omnipresent, inspires the creatures to choose the wrong path and later angrily throws them into hell. Is he not merciless? Vishwavasu: O Krushanu! How indiscriminate is your mind! For, your taunting words touch even Lord Vishnu, the spouse of Lakshmi. Listen – 17. दयापयोDधः अधो जः संस9ृ युदधौ Dचराय समsजनं नमsजनं मsजन इCत प\रगृU •भुः Cनजं दल ु भं पदं Zवयं •ापयCत ॥ Lord Adhokshaja(Narayana), the ocean of kindness, considers his humble devotees, drowning in the worldly ocean, to be his own, saying ‘they are mine’ and he himself takes them to his unattainable abode, Vaikunta. And, 18. dाहdहातG गजम ् गो§तुं उ“द9वर9वरः शौ›रः लvलालोलतमां रमाम ् अगणयन ् नीलाम ् अनालोकयन ् ¦कªच महvं मुªचन हठात ् अहv वरमयं मªचं वªचयन ् ि%जराजम् अ प आकषन ् हाह>त लोका>तरात ् अCतजवात ् उदै त ् ॥ To protect the elephant, that was suffering from pain, in the clutches of a crocodile, how quickly did Lord Shouri (Krishna) rush towards the elephant, immediately dragging with him from Garuda, the king of birds, neglecting Lakshmi, who was lustful, not even looking at Neela (a wife of Krishna), abandoning the Earth (also a wife of Vishnu) and leaving behind his bed of Adishesha! 19. •¬लाद @यसनास“ह|णुः वैकु¨ठः महतामदे न हथाžखल महार भं च¨डं “हर¨यकˆशपंु वेत¨डं ख¨डCयतंु उ9क¨ठया 9वरागौरवात ् अशेषभीषणं स-हं वेषं गृ]न् आक¨ठक¨ठ®रवः उदगात ् ॥ Unable to tolerate the grief of Prahlada, what a fierce form of lion did Vaikunta (Vishnu) take immediately, appearing as Narasimha, a lion upto neck, eager to rip the terrific elephant, called Hiranyakshipu, who arrogantly was ruining all the sacrificial rituals! (like the elephant ruining all the pleasure gardens). Another thing – 20. वषीद9पांचालv वपदपनयैक•णCयनः पतगपCतकेतोः अवेम@यापाराकलनम ् अतुरvZपशम ् अनु>मीलत ् त>तु•करघटना यासम ् अDचरात ् असकृत ् पटानां Cनमाणं नः अवतु ॥ May the quick production of clothes again and again, without the use of a loom, without even the touch of shuttle and without any effort of weaving the threads, by the eagle-bannered Lord, whose only pleasure was relieving the lamenting Draupadi from grief, protect us all. Also, ृ त ् वृ^गृद्धृः अ प अनेकान ् लोकान ् 21. मुरारे ः राघव9वे काकः अˆमतं शोकं @यसज लेभे Cनषादः Cन वषादं कुशलम ् अगमत ् अ प – Cनˆशचरौ राsयम ् •ा§तौ प य प!ासख? क”णा वाचां पारे जयCत ॥ When Murari (Vishnu) was born as Rama, a crow by name Jayanta, renounced its immense grief; an old vulture(Jatayu) attained auspicious worlds like Vaikunta and others; a Chandala (lowest of the mixed tribes) by name Guha, attained a propitious state, which was deprived of grief; an ape called Sugriva and a demon called Vibhishana gained kingdoms. Look, the compassion of the spouse of Lakshmi prospers beyond words. As such, your assertion regarding the cruelty of Narayana, who is the Lord of all the Gods and an ocean of compassion, indicates your foolishness and the result of your sinful intentions. By the way, listen – 22. ‹षदा“दम9वम ् अयताम ् जीवानां ZवगापवगाZपदं दे हं दIवCत D¯यः •यतमे उपकारZमCृ तः नैव। ह>त! जातुDचत ् Zवकˆलतात ् द|ु कमणः पिE?मात ् दःु खे आगते @यसCनˆभः Cनरागˆस नाथे नैघ¨यम ृ ् आरो§यते॥ Though Lord Vishnu has granted the precious human body, which is a means of attaining heaven and salvation, to the creatures / beings who are fit to become mere stones and other inanimate objects, there is no gratitude towards the Lord. How sad! Though the distressed people undergo miseries as a result of their earlier misdeeds, they accuse the innocent Lord, of being cruel! Alas! The stupid creatures attribute their offence to the most compassionate Supreme Lord. For, 23. Eलेश9यागकृते अ पतेन करण@यूहेन दे हेन ज>तुः ZवानथG बत अजयCत Cनय>तु म>तुः कुतः? अथ नैजगु”णा श?ुजयाय शZ?े दIे चेत ् पु?ः तेन एव Cनजम ् वपःु हि>त तु रे ! त? अपराधी कः? कथय ॥ If the body, which is nothing but a group of organs, granted to get rid of the wordly miseries, is used by a creature / being to produce worthless objects (and pain arising from them) then how can that be considered as an offence of the Supreme Spirit? If a father gives a weapon to his son, to kill the foes, and the son causes harm to his own body by that weapon, then, tell me O Krushanu, who is at fault? What is the use of talking much? 24. यः CनजZव£पमतये भ›ू र शाZ?ं, Zवाराधनाथम ् वपःु , Zव•यानाय मनः, च तीथा“दकम ् लrधुम ् अनघाम ् बु°Dधं च त±वाCन उपदे |टुम ् अ प उIमगु£न ् द±वा नः अनुगृ]ाित तद प य“द संसारे ²मेम तदा सव³ वरः ¦कं कुव´त ? The Great Lord favours us by providing plenty of scriptures for the knowledge of his true form, a body to worship him, a mind to mediate on him, an intellect to attain holy places and excellent preceptors to impart the philosophical knowledge. Even then, if we keep rotating in the cycle of life and death, what would the Supreme Lord do? DESCRIPTION OF THE EARTH Moving forward in their vehicle and looking down, (Vishwavasu said) – My friend! Look at the world of morals, the earth, the performing ground for achieving the four – fold goals of life. With reverence – 25. अदोCनवाˆस पुTषार_ाितशु^ाEर Zवाहाकार – वषµ¦•यो- 9वम ् Zवादvयः अमत ृ ं Zवग¶कोˆभः आदvयते, आ नाय•वणैः शुभैः मनु|यैः अल·कृCतजुष,े “द@य े?स›र9प व?वपष ु े अम|ु यै पDृ थ@यै दे @यैः नमः ॥ The sweet nectar produced by holy words like ‘Swaha’ and ‘Vashat’ uttered while performing sacred sacrifices by the residents of heaven. Salutations to Godess Earth, whose body is sanctified by the presence of holy rivers and sacred places, and who is adorned with the auspicious people who are well – versed in Vedas. Krushanu : Friend! It is inappropriate for you to offer salutations to Earth, even after attaining heaven. For, 26. अ यः – भुवं गताः लोकाः जनन – मरण – aािध – ािध.भेदशुभे तरा कलनमिलनाः च शोकातुराः तत् िछcै कमाग0णत[रै ः c ु ै ः मिदिभः .भुिभः उिदत dैि dै कः बुधः इह eृहये त? The earthlings are polluted by birth, death, anxiety, diseases and evil deeds and are oppressed. Hence, is there any wise man who, even after coming to heaven, would wish for earth, which is being destroyed by the wicked and lustful rulers who are engaged in searching for weakness in others? 27. •ायशः म9याः बाल9वे वा त”žणमCन वा वा^0 के वा म9ृ वा यमभटै ः बfमानाः बत @यथ>ते। अˆमत वपदाम ् तेषाम ् जी वनाम ् ¯ेयः ¦कमाZते पुनः किZमन ् dामे अनडुहाम ् कषण EलेशहाCनः ॥ Generally, humans are bound and dragged by the messengers of death either in their childhood, youth or old age. They are even tortured in various ways. Where is the happiness for them, who face several calamities? Are the bulls in any village free from the hardship of pulling the carts and ploughs? Vishwavasu : That is true. But, my friend, do not abuse the life of humans, that has recourse to earth. 28. भु व ेमZय दाता, रावणZय •हता रामः मनुजः ननु। दै dयु^ेp?दशकुलपतेः सहायः तIातः म9यः न ¦कम ्? यः नरतया व|ृ णः मदम ् अहरत असौ कृ|णः 9वया न ¯ुतः ¦कम ्?। के वा दे वाः दानवाः वा Zवयम ् •भावात ् मानवात ् अCतशCयताः?॥ Was not Rama a human, who killed Ravana and established happiness on earth? Was not Dasharatha, a mortal, the father of Rama, who lent a helping hand to the king of Gods in the battle with demons? Have you not heard of Krishna, who, being a human, removed the arrogance of Indra? Tell me, whether the humans, relying on his own strength, without the help of humans? Also, 29. अ>वयः सुलभमिZत। यथा लोकमिZत तथैव अ>वयः। Were not the kings of commendable fame, like Mandhata, Bhageeratha, Sagara, revered Kakutstha, Raghu, Puru, Puroorava, Shibi, virtuous Rukmangada, Janaka, Nahusha, the brave Haihaya king Sahasrjuna, Yayati, Nala and Arjuna, born on this earth? Krushanu (agreeing partially) – 30. अ>वयः – गुणाˆभरामाः के अ प जनाः युगा>तरे षु मातले स>तु, ¦क>तु अिZमन ् कलौ युगे गण ु लेशव>•याः सव³ अ प सव³तर दोषभाजः ॥ Some exceedingly virtuous men might have been on this earth in other ages. But, in this age of Kali, all the people are void of even a small particle of virtues and are full of vices. And – 31. अ>वयः सुलभमिZत। Alas! Even the sight of the wicked kings, whose minds are severely polluted by lust, who are the residing places for anger, pride, sensuality and lack of judgement and who are born in this age of Kali as a result of their sins committed in their previous births, brings evil. Vishwavasu: Even then, all the humans born in this age of Kali are not blameworthy. For, in all the ages, there will be some noble people. See – 32. अ>वयः – द›ु रत ------------- Ÿ तौ Zवयम ् उ“दताः, Cनमलाः, कृCतनः कलौ अ प कCत न सghi$े॥ How many pure-hearted meritorious people do we not see even in this age of Kali, who are born of their own accord on this earth to perform sacred rituals prescribed in the Vedas, rejecting the favours of their hearts into the pleasure ground of the lotus-eyed Vishnu? Or, if you do not trust my words, then let us move about the virtues of those places. DESCRIPTION OF BADARIKASHRAMA Continuing with arial car, pointing downwards he said it was Badarikashrama. Vishwavasu – 33. अ>वयः – इदम ् बद›रका¯मZथलम ्, इह एषः नारायणः नमZयताम ् िZथरताम ् तमः शोषयन ् तपZयCत, अमी िवकािसिदषणो#Fषि%षयवज0नाः सsजनाः भज ु गमªचम ् जनादनम ् अह“दवम ् अचि>त ॥ This sacred spot is Badarikashrama. Here Sriman Narayana has removed the permanent ignorance of his pdevotees. He himself has performed meditation here Saints who are bereft of all desires perform oblations here day and night. Krushanu :- Friend, this is a very holy and sacred place and what you are doing. I don’t like your arguments. Because, 34. अ>वयः – यत ् अ? ˆशलासमम ् “हमम ् जागCत, सुशीतलाः दःु सहाः च ग>धवहाः, ततः जलवगाहात ् च¦कतः जनः कुतः Cनमलं कम अन|ु ठाZयCत॥ Here snowfall occurs and snow is hard like a rock. Here the cold winds are untolerable. People fear to dip themselves in these waters. Then how can people perform sacred rituals here? Vishwavasu : - I agree with your words. This will boost our opinion. Why, 35. अ>वयः – परम“हमयुत9वात ् •ा§तवैकु¨ठसा यम ् इदम ् पदम ् शाि>तम>तः पि¨डताः उपया>तः, इह समयेषु मुहुः Zनाहेतोः सरोगाः अ प ता¸यकेतोः •सादात ् तत ् भश ृ म ् अरोगाः भवि>त ॥ This sacred snow is equivalent to Vaikunta. So many soft- hearted Saints come here to perform oblations and repeatedly dip themselves in this Sarovara(lake). And with this divine grace they are rid of all illness. DESCRIPTION OF AYODHYA Saying so, the aircraft was propelled further and Ayodhya could be seen. Seeing / visualizing Ayodhya Vishwavasu salutes by joining his hands (palms). 36. अ>वयः – Zतोकेतर¯ीपुषे साकेताय परु ाय नमः, नानादोषमुष,े तदि>तजुषे सर@यै दे @यै च नमः, तIटभˆू मषु • वलसŒप ू ाः ये अˆभ£पाः यप ू ाः िZथताः च, भानक ु ु लvनकfCत लCतकोप—नाCयते¹यः ते¹यः नमः भवCत॥ Ancient and filled with treasures, I offer my salutations to Ayodhya. My salutations to Sarayu river which is flowing close by and which is a remover of all our sins. On the banks of this Sarayu river are trees which are like pillars of Raghu dynasty – I offer my salutaions. Again and again, filled with devotion he says – 37. अ>वयः सुलभमिZत । यथा लोकम ् । The dust on Sri Rama’s feet have the power to dry this ocean of desire. Saint Gowthama’s wife Ahalya was brought back to life. Ayodhya, is sanctified by the divine grace of Sri Rama’s feet. I offer my salutations again to Ayodhya. Recollecting past events, he is filled with emotions. In that emotional state he starts to chant Sri Rama. 38. अ>वयः – क¤याणो¤लाससीमा, कालमेघाˆभरामा, भवगहनगCतEलाि>तहा›र•णामा, सौ>दयºvणकामा, धृतजनकसुतासादरापाRदामा, “द ु •»यातभूमा, “द वषदˆभनुता, साकेतधामा काDचत ् रामनामा दे वता कुशलम ् कलयतु ॥ Sri Rama! Who is beautiful like the dark clouds! Who is more handsome than Manmatha! Who is the epitome of Sita’s longing glances! Who is famous for his archery! Who is a giver of all good thoughts! Who blesses people. Who salute (worship) him, and helps them to cross this worldly difficulties, a resident of Ayodhya, who is saluted by all the Vedas. Let him look after our safety. Even more, 39. अ>वयः – दशाननकुशासन ?सदशेषलोक@यथा वलोपकरकोपकः, वसुमतीसुताव¤लभः ऋषी|टकृत ् सः कृपणैकताने मCय अपारसंसCृ त पयोCनधेः तारकम ् कृपारसम ् कृषी|ट ॥ When Ravana, due to his wicked desires, brought difficulty to the world. Sri Rama, removed all the difficulties by his mere anger. Many saints have been blessed. This Sita’s husband, mercy will help us to cross over this ocean of mundane existence. Let that Lord, bless me, with his mercy, I am a mere creature. Even more, 40. अ>वयः – यZय “ह वरचरणपु|करकरे णःु , वष ृ ोदये हेतुः अ प ऋ षˆसंहZय म“हषीं •ाजीजनत ्, सः Dच?च›र?ः जयCत ॥ Sri Rama’s story is filled with wonders. The dust of his feet has the natural grace to uplift Sages and Saints. 41. अ>वयः – यः काकाय, क-ाय, च दाशाय, कfशाय च रा साय इ|टम ् अ“दत, सः महावदा>यः, जनका9मजायाः •ेयान ् भय ू ांˆस ¯ेयांˆस दे यात ् ॥ This Devottama, Sita’s husband, the crow (Kakasura), vulture (Jatayu), demon (Vibhishana) and others were blessed. Similarly let Sri Rama also bless us. Even more, 42. अ>वयः – Ÿ तौ अभी|टघटकः, अतुलदvि§तकोद¨डभाक् इCत मम ्, पुनः इदम ् परम ् अ ु तम् ½ूमहे , Zवयम ् वघ“टता›रच•ः वधूतपरमाCतकः सः •भुः •ुधा कु भजनकं शकलया बभूव ॥ The fulfiller of desires, who is glowing, who is carrying the bow and arrows. That Sri Rama performed such unbelievable acts on this earth, is very natural but he has removed the difficulties of the downtrodden. His enemies are defeated like Ravana and Kumbakarna who were slain. These heroic acts are a part of his story. Krushanu: What? Are you praising Sri Rama, who has performed bad deeds? 43. अ>वयः – मातुः सप>9या मुदे रथ-हिZत-प I-तुरगैः स प>नाम ् Cनजम ् राsयम ् स>9यsय वष´यान ् अ प जानकfसहचरः घनम ् वनम ् व>दन ् असौ अयE ु त¦•यः कथम ् न Zयात ्, कः वा जनः ग@यम ् द_ु धम अपाZय, यवागरू सम ् पाZयCत? ॥ Even though he was the eldest son, he gave up his kingdom filled with elephants, horses and palanquins, for the sake of his step mother, he went to the forest. More, 44. अ यः – दशा?दप0शमनम्, धीशािलनम्, वािलनम् िधkृd सः अयम् रा सवग0िनlहकृतेसुlीवम् एव अ lहीत् इह तु तुR. रभRिलmुः कः िनn-म् टं कम् dजन् प-जदलादान .सRाय संकoम् कलये त? He could have brought down Ravana’s arrogance, by using the powerful Vali. Later he joined hands with Sugreeva to fight against the demons. More, 45. अ>वयः – पौलZ9यह>ता, जलCनधौ सेतुम ् कृ9वा, दरु •वान ् ख¨डCय9वा, अि_न•वेशात ् pुटिविदतसंशु#^म् दे वीम लr•वा, ह>त! भूयः अ प भˆू मक>याम ्, अ>तव9नीम ् एनाम ् भव ु न जननीम ् अन>याम ् वनम ् आनयत॥ He built a bridge on the ocean. He removed all the obstacles which came forth. He brought back Sita and later he asked her to enter the fire to test her purity. After all this again, that worldly mother was sent to the forest, when she was pregnant. He was heartless! Vishwavasu: - Friend! Why are accusing the virtuous with needless sins? – 16. 46. अ>वयः – अ¾यः अ प सः रामच>Œः गरु ौ अस9योिEतCनरासहेतोः Zवराsयम ् अ प तण ृ ाय मेने, तम ् पणाCयतुम ् फणाभद ृ vशः अ प न Cनपण ु ायते ॥ He wanted to upkeep his father’s promise, so inspite of being the eldest son, he gave up his kingdom. His virtuousness cannot be described even by Adishesha. More, 47. अ>वयः – बलोˆममाˆलनी वाˆलCन जाdCत अयम ् यत ् सd ु ीवम ् अdहvत ्, तेन अZय ¯Cु तशत व“दतम ् दvनब>धु9वम ् सु@यEतम ् ॥ Even though Vali was all powerful, he accepted the friendship of Sugreeva, so the Vedas call him as “uplifter of the downtrodden” and praised much: don’t you not see it as a right act. More, 48. अ>वयः – रामाकृCतः ¯ीपCतः अ वरतम ् व ˆस ल¸मीं pब²त ्, काम ् अ प मानुषीम ् व ृ Iम ् अˆभनयन ्, वीराdयायी कZय अ प वचः अम|ृ यन ् क¤याणीम ् •याम ् वनीम ् अनीनयत ्, मे“द>याम ् ई‹शः अपरः मानी पुमान ् अवलो¦कतः ¦कम ् ? ॥ Vishnu who manifested in the form of Sri Rama, who upheld Lakshmi in his heart. In the human form, as per the drama of existence, that valourous husband sent his wife to the forest. He did not want any one to pinpoint the ills of such a sacred soul. Where shall we see such a pure hearted human being? Realy , 49. अ>वयः – D¯तरामभŒान ्, गणनादरvŒान ्, गुणानाम ् गणान ् गातुम ् कः ई|टे , .ाचे तसाLाः अनवLाः कवयः यदे कदे शा कलनेऽ प न ईशाः ॥ Naturally even scholars like Valmiki are unable to describe his one attribute. Then who can describe the uncountable virtues and attributes of this virtuous being? His virtues are like an ocean. Let me describe one attribute only of this virtuous being. Listen:- 17 50. अ>वयः – लोक सं»या 50 तः 68 पय>तं अ>वयः सुलभमिZत । यथा लोकानग ु ुणम ् अिZत। 68 लोके “रमते ममतेजZवी रामः कामसमो•“द” इCत अिZत। तं सव? 50 तः लोकानाम ् अ>वये योजयतु. अ? ¯ीरामZय गण ु ानां कfतनम ् अिZत। He was born in the famous Kakutsa dynasty, which is like the Koustuba jewel in the ocean. He was like the flower that blossomed out of the past good deeds of Koushalya. 51. He brightened the palace of Dasharatha like the divine aura of the marakatamani (blue stone), he soffened Janaki’s eyelashes like moonlight, which gently falls and filled her with raptures of delight. 52. People who are troubled with the in’s and out’s of this daily existence take a shelter under this tree. He is capable of removing all demons and ghosts, like a magician. All demons and ghosts runaway in the presence of this magician. 53. He is filled with compassion, like waves of the ocean. He is like the new cloud for the sages and saints. 54. He is the resting place for all knowledge. He is like the seat of virtuousness. But still that mighty King is easily available for all his devotees. 55. He is the most charitable, virtuous, compassionate, always with bewitching smile. 56. He is like the life’s medicine for energy and enthusiasm. Valiant,and he is the dwelling place of Lakshmi. 57. He is the life giver of the lifeless like the sanjeevini. He is fearless, the foremost position for the seekers of knowledge. He is filled with these divine qualities. 58. Even Lord Indra saved by Sri Rama. It looks like victory took its birth in this house. He is like a Garuda to the poverty like serpent. 59. He is like the Sun God which removes the darkness in the form of Tataka. The Lion which was able to control the arrogance of a mighty elephant called Subhahu. 60. The flood which brought down the forest fire like anger of Parashurama. The medicine which can putdown the discease called Viradha. 61. The axe that brings down the poisonous tree called Kara- Dushana. Maricha, the evil who was destroyed like the bamboo groves by the fire. 62. Jatayu was given a place in heaven. He is like the road that leads to good places like heaven. He is like the powerful Sunrays capable of evaporating a pool called Kabanda. 63. He is able to blossom the lotus face of Shabari. He is like the spring that brings to life the glories of Maruthi. 64. The powerful and valiant Vali like cloud, being brought down by the powerful wind. He is bestower of happiness to all monkeys and the restorer of Sugreeva’s kingdom. 65. He is like the mighty rock that stands still when the waves of ocean fall on it. He is like the Dumaketu to the wicked demons. 66. He drank the arrogance of Kumbakarna like Agastya. He is like the diamond that drilled into the heart of the mighty Ravana. 67. He is like the Kalpvriksha (all bestowing tree) to Vibhishana, by giving him the mighty Lanka kingdom to rule. He is the synosure of all the Ayodhya inhabitants. 68. अ>वयः – विसqाLैः मह षˆभः यथावत ् अˆभ षEतः कामसमः तेजZवी रामः मम •“द रमते ॥ In physical form, he is like Kama that virtuous, Sri Rama resides in my heart always. See, one scholarly person is chanting over here. 69. अˆभरामDगरा मर>दधारामद—नम ्, अरे ः वरामम ्, इतरामम ्, अद् भुततरामलसद् गुणानाम् आरामम ्, घोराम य—नम ्, असरु ामरवि>दता·CÂम ्, रामम ् •यायाˆम ॥ Sri Rama! By bewitching words, I am meditating on you. You are more tasty than the honey. You are the resting place for all miracles and good qualities. You are the slayer of enemies. All Gods and demons prostrate at your feet. The king who is capable of removing this diseace called worldly desire. My prostrations and salutation. 70. अ>वयः – सुलभमिZत । Oh mind! Sri Rama, is the compassionate, always calm, ever smiling, seeing his bow, demons will ran away. Maruthi (Hanuman) like austere (clibete person), praise you. Even though your army comprises of monkeys, you are uplifter of Dharma, virtuous and the God manifested human being. Let my mind always remember thee. 71. अ>वयः – भगवन ् ! •याŒ“ु ह तण ृ म ् अZ?ामास, Zमरारे ः धनुः तण ृ ामास, ˆशला अ प मुनेः दारामास, पादक ु ा Zवयम ् नव ृ रामास, महाणवः अ प कु¤यामास, कपयः योधा बभूवुः तथा पौलZ9यः मशका बभूव, 9वम ् मानुषामाˆसथ ॥ Sri Rama! For you kakasura, who cheeted your wife was defeated by your weapon like grass. You lifted the bow of Shiva like the dry grass. The stone was transformed into the wife of a sage. Your sandals (paduka) became the King of Ayodhya. The mighty ocean became a small pool. The monkeys became soldiers. Ravana was broken down into pieces. Rama were you were a human being! 72&73. अ>वयः – सल ु भमिZत । The bestower of life to a stone(pillar). The bestower of salvation to all forms of life. The remover of fear to the whole world. The one who broke the bow of Shiva. The one who transformed the dry grass into Bhramastra. The one who counted Ravana like grass. The one who set his feet in Lanka --- even though they are gods? We don’t want them. *****
