MODULE 1

The Prep:
Understanding Meta Ads Account
When it comes to payment methods, there are 3 types of
Meta Ads account but first, let’s briefly discuss what a Meta
ad account is and why you need it.

Meta, the company that owns popular social media

platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Threads & WhatsApp
created the “Meta Ads Account” as a platform that allows
businesses and creators to create and manage
advertisements (pka Sponsored Ads). With an ad account,
you can do other things like set budgets, target specific
audiences for the content you’re promoting as well as track
the performance of your ad.

Next, let’s discuss the types of Meta Ads account based on

payment methods.

MODULE 1: THE PREP

Types of Ads Payment Method:

1. Prepaid Ads Account

2. Postpaid Ads Account

With Prepaid Ads account, you pay for your ads in advance and your
ads then run until you exhaust your balance. While this was initially
used by businesses with limited businesses, a lot of creators &
businesses prefer this (especially in Nigeria and some other countries
in Africa) because their debits card tend to get rejected a lot with
the most accepted cards being Dollar cards.

Postpaid Ads account on the other hand (also known as invoice-

based) have you paying for your ads after they’ve run.

MODULE 2 - SETTING UP YOUR ADS ACCOUNT

One of the reasons I wrote this

e-book is for creators &
business owners based in
Nigeria who have their debit
cards rejected a lot and would
prefer to pay in Naira than
dollars

This e-book also helps social

3. Facebook Page
up to the end.
4. A Debit Card
(PayPal is accepted)

Before we continue, here’s what you need to understand. A Facebook account

is needed to create a prepaid Meta Ads Account (not negotiable). You’d
also really need a Facebook page (the most important part actually).

For people based in Nigeria, there has been an error message sent when
businesses or creators try to create a Facebook page. It says “too many
pages created” even when the person hasn’t created any page. The best way
to sort this is to buy a Facebook page from anyone who already has. They’d
transfer ownership to you.

MODULE 2 - SETTING UP YOUR ADS ACCOUNT

After explaining step by step in

text, a link with images showing
each step will be added at the
end of this chapter for those who
assimilate better with images.

Using your laptop, log into your Meta business Manager

When you access your business manager, right after the

Meta Business Suite logo, click on your business asset
(you’d most likely see your name and profile picture. it
comes before Home, Notification, Inbox…)

When you click on it (the business asset), select the

business you want to create a prepaid ads account for. To
do this, click on the settings icon at the right side of the
business name.

MODULE 2 - SETTING UP YOUR ADS ACCOUNT

Scroll down and click on “Ads account”, then a pop-up will come
up asking “What do you want to do?”, with options like “Create A
New Ads Account”, “Claim An Existing Ad Account” etc

Select “Create a new ad account”, next, you’d be asked “What

are the details for the ad account?”. This will include categories
you’re to fill like “Ad account name”, “Time Zone”, and “Currency.

Write out the Ad account name, if you’re in Nigeria or want

an ads account where you’d pay in Naira select “(GMT
+01:00) Africa/Lagos). This method is same for any other
currency. Find the time zone for the location for the currency
you want to be debited with.

You’d then see a new pop asking “Are you sure you want to continue?”. Tick
the box underneath to accept Meta’s terms of service then click on “Create
Ad Account”.

Next, you’d see “Add Payment Information”. This pop is where you’d add the
payment method for prepaid Ads. This here is very important, the most
important step if you ask me.

For thosewho want to create a Nigerian prepaid Ads account, you’d see the
Debit/Credit card option and the Naira Payment with Mastercar/Visa
(PayU).

MODULE 2 - SETTING UP YOUR ADS ACCOUNT

PayU is exactly what you need if

you’re in Nigeria. Select “PayU”, then
click “Next”.

And there you have it, your ad

account has been created
successfully.

Don’t press “Done” yet. In the pop

saying your account has been
created successfully, you’d see “Add
Payment Info”, click on that.

The first slide is to confirm your

location and time zone, click on
“Next”.

Skip the VAT ID part. You’d then see a pop up asking you
to add fund to your wallet. Follow the prompt, including
adding your card details (it’s secure) and you can choose
any amount to add to your wallet (it tends to show
N4,500, simply tap on it to change the amount)

You’d be send an OTP to confirm the top up and there you

have it. Your prepaid ada account. Same thing applies for
US/UK prepaid Ads account. There’s option for Paypal
and cards for those outside Nigeria.

The Challenge & It’s Solutions

There’s a major challenge i have come across along the

years with different ads accounts

PAGE 9
MODULE 3: THE CHALLENGE & ITS SOLUTION

Linking To Instagram: A lot of people set up

their ads account to be able to run
promotions on IG so not being able to
connect it to IG can be very frustrating.

To solve this, i’d break the connection process from the business
manager to the IG account.

First, we want to make sure the Instagram is linked to the Facebook

page. While setting up the ads account, you may come across a pop-
up asking you to connect it. If you do see it, please connect it.

If you don’t, go to your IG. Click on edit profile, scroll down to “Page”
and then select the Facebook page you created an Ads account for.
After this, go to your IG settings

PAGE 10
MODULE 3: THE CHALLENGE & ITS SOLUTION

In your IG settings, scroll to “Creator Tools & Controls” or “Business

Tools & Controls”, then click on “Ad Payments”. If it has not switched
yet, tap on the Ads account you made earlier. And there you have it.

After this set up, you can then fund your ads wallet from your
Instagram with your phone.

Here’s the link to the entire process with actual images of the setup

Step by Step On How To Make Money

Creating Prepaid Ads Account
As a social media manager, one of the easy ways to make
extra money is to help business owners & creators set up their
prepaid Ads account. The steps to do this is already in
preceding chapters, what’s left is pricing and what to ask your
client to provide after payment.

For people based in Nigeria, I’d recommend charging within

N10,000 to N20,000 for this.

Here’s what to request from your client:

1. Facebook Log In details (after confirming they have a

faceboook page)
2. Instagram Log In Details
3. Confirm the currency they want to run ads on
4. A token on N2,000 to fund their wallet. This is theirs fully.
