AGCO CORPORATION - DEKALB OPERATIONS

CORPORATE MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

I. SCOPE:
This specification defines the minimum laboratory test requirements used to
evaluate high performance topcoat paints for metallic substrates. This is a
multiple variation specification for various topcoat colors. Color and gloss
requirements are defined in Article IV.

II. APPLICATION:
A. This material provides standard corrosion protection plus appearance
integrity and is primarily intended for use on product where more durable
(harder) and gloss retentive paints than the standard topcoats are
required.
B. Materials approved under this specification meet or exceed the
requirements of standard topcoat paints and may be used when standard
topcoat paints are specified.
C. Powder paints approved under this specification are primarily intended for
product components. Components must be able to tolerate a cure
temperature of 200±10 C.
D. Powder topcoat paints approved under this specification meet the 500 h
minimum Salt Spray requirement by themselves and may be used without
primer for this level of corrosion protection.
E. Material application, pre-treatment and product appearance requirement
CPS (Corporate Process Specification) 5002.
III. APPROVAL:
A. All new paints must be evaluated to meet all the requirements of this
specification. It is the responsibility of the supplier to qualify new paints
according to procedures outlined in CPS 5004 and assure compliance of
approved products to the requirements of this specification.
B. Supplier’s test data will be accepted for product qualification purposes if
their testing laboratory has ISO 9002 certification.
C. Paints must be formulated to comply with the heavy metal content limits
defined in Article V.A.
D. All paint materials must be approved by the group listed in Article III. H,
prior to any shipment to any plant or component supplier.

IV. COLOR AND GLOSS REQUIREMENTS:
Color must be determined visually for black and both visually and
instrumentally for all other colors. Instrumental color and gloss requirements
for the various colors are defined below.
A. Visual Match (ASTM D1729): A non-metameric visual match between the
paint test panel and the corresponding color reference standard (color
chip) shall be observed under all illuminants when viewed in a Macbeth
Spectra Light light booth or equivalent. Typical illuminants include horizon
sunlight (incandescent), cool white fluorescent, and average daylight.
Color reference standards are available from the group listed in Article
III.H.
B. Instrumental Color Match (ASTM D2244) and Gloss Requirements (ASTM
D523):
Instrumental color and gloss requirements for the various topcoat paints
are defined below. Paint color shall be within the tolerances specified
below when evaluated with a spherical optical sensor using the following
parameters:
Color Coordinate System ……………………….CIELAB
Observer ………………………………………….10

Different color measuring instruments have inherent variations, which may

result in slightly different numbers than the centroids listed below. Parties
measuring color shall measure and store the current color standard issued
by AGCO into their particular instrument as their centroid. New batches of
paint compared against the stored centroid shall comply with the required
tolerances listed below.
Supplier shall submit a color panel from each qualified production batch of
paint along with their own color and gloss measurement results, verifying
conformance to the specification requirements, to the group listed in
