ABSTRACT

This report presents an implementation, installation and testing of a

solar photovoltaic (PV) power system designed to supply energy to the
examinations and records office. The system comprises two solar PV panels
connected in parallel, a charge controller, a 12V, 220Ah battery, and an
inverter, along with various electrical loads including lighting, a ceiling fan,
and socket outlets. The installation procedure was systematically executed,
ensuring optimal connections to maximize energy efficiency. Detailed testing
was conducted to evaluate the system's performance, including open and short
circuit voltage and current tests. Results indicated slight discrepancies
between the measured and rated values, suggesting potential inefficiencies
related to environmental factors and wiring resistance. The measured open
circuit voltage was 36V (rated 38.2V), and the short circuit current was 7.5A
(rated 9.46A), indicating areas for improvement. Conclusions drawn from the
testing emphasize the need for regular maintenance and inspection of
connections to enhance system efficiency. Recommendations for future
improvements include expanding system capacity through additional PV cells
and batteries. Overall, the solar power system demonstrated effective
functionality, providing a sustainable energy source with minimal operational
costs, thus fulfilling its intended purpose.
