INTRODUCTION
The differences between media text and plain text primarily revolves around the
content’s complexity, format and function. Media text involves various forms of
communication, such as images, audio, video and graphics, in addition to written words.
For example, a news website might combine text with videos, images and hyperlinks to
engage the audience. The media text can be interactive and dynamic, allowing for
engagement through clicks, animations and multimedia elements. Media text often
adapts to the platform it’s on, whether it’s a blog, social media post or video content,
utilizing various media formats to convey messages more effectively. Purpose of media
text is a generally created to inform, persuade or entertain a broad audience and is often
produced by professional creators like journalists, advertisers or filmmakers. The plain
text is simple and contains only text characters without any embedded multimedia
elements or complex formatting. It's often used for code, basic documentation or
communication where clarity and simplicity are prioritized. Minimalist in the plain text
lacks bold, italics, hyperlinks or color formatting. This makes plain text highly portable
and readable across different systems without needing special software or tools to
interpret it.While functional is straightforward, plain text serves specific purposes, such
as sending emails, writingin markdown or code files and creating content for devices or
software that do not support rich text.
DEFINITION OF MEDIA TEXT
A media text can be defined as a form of communication that utilizes various
linguistic and non-verbal elements to convey messages through different mediums
such as newspapers, magazines, TV programs, radio broadcasts, online articles,
advertisements, and social media posts. These texts play a crucial role in influencing
public opinion, shaping cultural narratives, and disseminating information to a wide
audience. The construction of media texts involves a combination of verbal (written
or spoken language) and non-verbal (visual, audio) elements, with the primary
function often being persuasion rather than pure information dissemination.
Through discourse analysis, researchers can delve into the underlying beliefs, values,
and attitudes embedded in media texts, gaining insights into how these messages
impact individuals' thoughts and behaviors. Overall, the study of media texts is
essential for understanding the evolving landscape of communication and its
profound effects on society. In the modern conditions of the formation of the
information society, the study of discrete units of the media stream is of particular
relevance. Without a doubt, the main such unit is the media text, the framework of
which allows you to combine such diverse and multi-level concepts as a newspaper
article, radio broadcast, television news, and Internet advertising and other types of
med.The core element of media text is 'reporting diurnally. As the media texts are
diurnal, they are dynamic as well. In that meaning, media texts are said as 'temporal'
contexts. Not like other texts, the media texts always address the 'masses' that who
are always active. Media texts are always generated to a specific medium. And they
are collective. When compared to other types of texts, media texts are much
ideological. While the scientific texts contradict between truth and non-truth, media
texts work with the purpose of revealing the 'truth'. The main task of media texts is
developing public opinion or administrating; manipulating the mass consciousness.
And also, the media texts are contrasting, not rational
TYPES OF MEDIA TEXT
Media texts include advertisements, talkback radio programs, magazines, news
presentations, sports reporting, political commentary or cartoons, editorials, websites,
social media, blogs, podcasts, gaming, and other forms of digital media.
• ADVERTISMENT
The definition of advertisement is the means of communication in which a product,
brand or service is promoted to a viewership in order to attract interest, engagement
and sales. Advertisements (often shortened to ads or adverts) come in many forms,
from copy to interactive video, and have evolved to become a crucial feature of the
app marketplace.
• TALKBACK RADIO PROGRAM
Talkback, the first interactive broadcasting medium, enables listeners to talk on-air to
program hosts or their guests—including political leaders—about matters determined
by the callers, the host, or their guests. A magazine is a periodical publication,
generally published on a regular schedule (often weekly or monthly), containing a
variety of content. They are generally financed by advertising, purchase price, prepaid
subscription or by a combination of the three.
• MAGAZINE
A magazine is a periodical publication, generally published on a regular schedule
(often weekly or monthly), containing a variety of content. They are generally financed
by advertising, purchase price, prepaid subscription or by a combination of the three.
• SPORT REPORTING
Sport reporting focuses on subjects and events related to the world of sports.
Journalists' work in sports ranges from play-by-play and game summaries to analysis
and investigative reporting on major sporting events. They work in various media,
including broadcasting, print and the internet.
• POLITICAL COMMETARY
Political criticism, also referred to as political commentary or political discussion, is a
type of criticism that is specific of or relevant to politics, including policies, politicians,
political parties, and types of government.
• EDITORIAL
Editorial content in journalism refers to opinion pieces meant to persuade an audience
on a specific issue.
• WEBSITES
A group of World Wide Web pages usually containing hyperlinks to each other and
made available online by an individual, company, educational institution, government,
or organization.
• SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media refers to the means of interactions among people in which they create,
share, and/or exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks.
• BLOGS
A blog is an informational website consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style
text entries (posts). Posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order so that
the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page.
• PODCAST
A podcast is a program made available in digital format for download over the Internet.
Typically, a podcast is an episodic series of digital audio files that users can download
to a personal device to listen to at a time of their choosing.
DEFINITION OF PLAIN TEXT
Plain text is any text that isn't formatted. It does not take any special formatting, such
as varying fonts, font sizes, bold font, or italics. It also only contains standard
characters, which are those found in the default set of characters that an application
can display. It can also refer to a document that only contains these unformatted
characters. Plain text files are often made by the most basic text file format, which
takes on the ".txt" extension. These files are often created and edited by Notepad, the
text editor found on every Windows device, or by another text editor. However, text
files can be opened by virtually any document or text editor, including more powerful
applications such as Notepad++, WordPad, Microsoft Office, or OpenOffice. Another
place where you can find plain text is input forms in websites and apps. Many social
media websites, such as Twitter and Instagram, only let you post captions and tweets
as plain text, although there are some exceptions, such as hashtags and emoji.
Therefore, you cannot add any additional formatting to these elements. They are
automatically formatted according to the standards of the website or app. Older email
clients also often have plain text modes, allowing you to send messages in plain text.
Plain text is essential in computing because it is the basis for creating and
manipulating more complex formats. It is used for coding, scripting, configuration files,
and data storage. You can easily read and edit plain text using various text editors.
Absolutely, plain text is often used for storing structured data in formats like comma-
separated values (CSV) files. It's easy to read and modify with both human eyes and
automated scripts. Plain text is the original data before encryption. It's transformed
into ciphertext during encryption to secure its contents. When decrypted, the
ciphertext returns to its original plain text form.
USAGE OF PLAIN TEXT
The purpose of using plain text today is primarily independence from programs that
require their very own special encoding or formatting or file format. Plain text files can
be opened, read, and edited with ubiquitous text editors and utilities.

A command-line interface allows people to give commands in plain text and get a
response, also typically in plain text.

Many other computer programs are also capable of processing or creating plain text,
such as countless programs in DOS, Windows, classic Mac OS, and Unix and its kin;
as well as web browsers (a few browsers such as Lynx and the Line Mode Browser
produce only plain text for display) and other e-text readers.

Plain text files are almost universal in programming; a source code file containing
instructions in a programming language is almost always a plain text file. Plain text is
also commonly used for configuration files, which are read for saved settings at the
startup of a program.

Plain text is used for much e-mail.

The best format for storing knowledge persistently is plain text, rather than some binary
format.
TYPES OF PLAIN TEXT
Plain text, the media type text/plan, is a format that contains readable characters,
without separate structure or formatting data. The characters can in principle be
displayed in any encoding. For example

• TXT (Text) Format

This is the most common and widely supported plain text format. Files with the “.txt”
extension contain unformatted text without any styling or special characters. They can
be opened and read by any text editor.
• CSV (Comma-Separated Values) Format
CSV files are plain text files that store tabular data, such as spreadsheets or databases.
Each line in the file represents a row, and values within each row are separated by
commas or other specified delimiters. CSV files are commonly used for data
exchange between different software applications.
• LOG (Log) Format
Log files store records of events or activities generated by computer systems, software
applications, or network devices. Log files are typically plain text files that contain time-
stamped entries and relevant information about each event, making them useful for
debugging, troubleshooting, or monitoring purposes.
• INI (Initialization) Format
INI files are plain text configuration files commonly used by applications to store
settings and parameters. They follow a simple structure consisting of sections
enclosed in square brackets and key-value pairs. INI files provide a straightforward
way to modify application settings without directly editing the program code.
• BAT (Batch) Format
BAT files are plain text files containing a series of commands that are executed in
sequence by the Windows Command Prompt. These files are commonly used to
automate tasks, perform repetitive actions, or create custom scripts.
CONCLUSION
The main differences between media text and plain text can be outlined as follows:

1. Format and Structure:

• Plain Text: Simple, unformatted, and consists of characters without any visual
enhancements like images, hyperlinks, or multimedia. It is linear and lacks the visual
breaks and features that may guide the reader.

• Media Text: Often combines different forms of communication, including text,

images, videos, audio, and interactive elements. It may be highly structured with bold
headings, subheadings, and visuals to guide the audience.

2. Engagement and Interaction:

• Plain Text: Typically passive, with the reader engaging only with the text. It relies
purely on words to convey meaning and maintain the reader’s attention.

• Media Text: Often interactive, using multimedia to engage the audience, such as
clickable links, videos, or audio clips, making it more dynamic and attention-grabbing.

3. Purpose and Audience:

• Plain Text: Primarily used for straightforward communication, such as emails,

reports, and essays. It focuses on delivering information clearly and directly.

• Media Text: Designed for broad communication and entertainment purposes, such
as news articles, websites, and social media. It often seeks to inform, entertain, and
engage through multiple formats.

4. Visual Elements:

• Plain Text: Limited to text only with no visual enhancements.

• Media Text: Includes images, icons, charts, and other visual components that
support and enhance the message, often making the content more visually appealing.

In summary, media text is rich and multi-dimensional, utilizing various forms of media
to convey information, while plain text is linear and relies solely on text-based
communication.
