Unit 1:
1. Have you ever been a leader? For example, have you ever been in
charge of a group at school or been the captain of a sports team? If
so, what challenges did you face as a leader?
Yes, I have been a leader in various situations. In high school, I
was the captain of the debate team. One of the biggest challenges
was managing diverse personalities and ensuring that everyone's
ideas were heard and considered. Additionally, balancing my
responsibilities as a leader with my own preparation and
performance was challenging.
2. Think of a leader you admire. What makes this person a good
leader?
I admire Nelson Mandela. His qualities of resilience, empathy, and
unwavering commitment to justice and equality make him an
exceptional leader. Despite the adversities he faced, he maintained
his principles and inspired millions to pursue a fair and equitable
society.
3. Look at the photo. Identify the leader. What qualities make this
person an effective leader?
I'll assume a generic effective leader. Let's consider a photo of
Mahatma Gandhi. His qualities of non-violence, humility, and
persistence made him an effective leader. His ability to mobilize
and inspire people towards a common goal of independence
through peaceful means was remarkable.
Unit 2:
1. Think about some successful people. How would you describe each
person's appearance?
Successful people often present themselves confidently and neatly.
For instance, business leaders like Elon Musk or Tim Cook usually
dress in professional attire that reflects their roles. Their
appearance is often a blend of comfort and professionalism,
indicating they value both functionality and presentation.
2. When you are at work or school, is the space around you usually neat
or messy? What does a messy desk tell you about the owner's
personality?
My workspace is usually neat, as I find it helps me concentrate
better. A messy desk might indicate that the person is highly
creative and busy, often engaged in multiple tasks simultaneously.
It can also suggest a level of comfort in their disorganization,
which might work for their productivity style.
3. Look at the photo. What does this workspace tell you about the
person that works here? Would you work in a space like this?
(Assuming a hypothetical photo of a cluttered desk.) This
workspace suggests the person is likely very busy and possibly a
creative thinker who thrives in a less structured environment.
Personally, I prefer a more organized space to minimize
distractions and enhance my focus.
Unit 3:
1. In your opinion, at what age does a person become an adult? Why?
In my opinion, adulthood begins around the age of 18. This is
typically when individuals gain legal responsibilities and rights,
such as voting and entering contracts. Additionally, it often
coincides with finishing high school and making significant life
choices about further education or career paths.
2. What important events or experiences can make you feel more like
an adult?
Important events like getting a job, moving out of your parents'
house, managing your finances, or taking care of another person
(like becoming a parent) can make you feel more like an adult.
These experiences require independence, responsibility, and
decision-making that are key aspects of adulthood.
3. Look at the photo. What is the woman doing? How does this event
make her an adult?
(Assuming a photo of a woman graduating.) The woman is likely
graduating, which is a significant milestone. This event marks the
transition from student life to professional life, symbolizing the
beginning of independent adulthood and the responsibilities that
come with it.
Unit 4:
1. What handmade products do you use on a regular basis?
I regularly use handmade products like pottery mugs, knitted
scarves, and artisan soaps. These items are unique and often have a
personal touch that mass-produced products lack.
2. Do you have a favorite homemade object in your house: a sweater, a
blanket, or a piece of furniture or art? What do you like most about
it?
My favorite homemade object is a quilt my grandmother made. I
love it because of the intricate patterns and the love and effort she
put into making it. It’s not just a blanket but a family heirloom with
sentimental value.
3. Look at the photos. What products are being made? Why are they
being made by hand?
(Assuming photos of artisans at work.) The products being made
could be pottery, knitted items, or wooden furniture. They are
made by hand to ensure high quality, uniqueness, and to preserve
traditional crafting techniques. Handcrafted items often carry a
sense of authenticity and personal connection.
