Prayer

What is prayer?
Definition -Prayer is conversation with God , our speaking from our hearts to our heavenly Father,
and, in return, God’s speaking to us through His Word and guiding us by the leading of His Spirit.

“As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and
glistening. And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah, who
appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at
Jerusalem.”
Luke 9:29-31 NKJV

“And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!””
Luke 9:35 NKJV

Why do we pray?
For God’s divine intervention in affliction ,revelation/answers for guidance/wisdom and to
connect/fellowship with God in His presence with the help of the Holy Spirit

“When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and
while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like
a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in
You I am well pleased.””
Luke 3:21-22 NKJV

“Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and
continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to
Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles:”
Luke 6:12-13 NKJV

What should we pray?


God’s will (surrendering your desires,understanding and perspective) it brings God’s kingdom/
mandate to come stubbornness and rebellion makes you an idol by not allowing the will of
God….you are the clay and He is the potter

“saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but
Yours, be done.””
Luke 22:42 NKJV

Where should we pray?


Secret place -where you find spiritual rest
it is not a physical location. It is a state of rest that prevails, regardless of outward
circumstances.(God’s presence)

““And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in
the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men.
Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room,
and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your
Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
Matthew 6:5-6 NKJV

“You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence From the plots of man; You shall
keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues.”
Psalms 31:20 NKJV

“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed
to a solitary place; and there He prayed.”
Mark 1:35 NKJV

“Now when it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowd sought
Him and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them;”

“And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked
them, saying, “Who do the crowds say that I am?””

How do we pray ?

“So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our
daily bread. And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.””

● Praise-blessing God
● Purity- consecration, separation of oneself from things that are unclean, especially
anything that would contaminate one’s relationship with a perfect God
● Position-Authority
● posture-power & in the spirit
● promises-word

When should we pray?


Without ceasing/Until eternity

pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
for you.”
I Thessalonians 5:17-18 NKJV

“In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; My hand was stretched out in the night without
ceasing; My soul refused to be comforted.”
Psalms 77:2 NKJV

“Therefore, I encourage the men to pray on every occasion with hands lifted to God in
worship with clean hearts, free from frustration or strife.”
1 Timothy 2:8 TPT

“Take words with you, And return to the Lord. Say to Him, “Take away all iniquity; Receive
us graciously, For we will offer the sacrifices of our lips.”
Hosea 14:2 NKJV

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving,
let your requests be made known to God;”

“Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among
yourselves;”

For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without
ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, making request if, by some means,
now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you.”

● Repentance
● Supplication (personal needs for now and destiny/future & protection, preservation,
provision,wisdom,direction)
● Thanksgiving
● Intercession(watchmen/gate keepers) (others/territorial needs for now and destiny/future
& protection, preservation, provision, wisdom,direction)

How long/often should we pray?


This is based on your capacity in prayer and by revelation.

“Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher.
She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; and
this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple,
but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.”
Luke 2:36-37 NKJV
