EXERCISE 3
Phys 211 – Physics for Engineers (Calculus Based)

Instruction: Solve the following problems correctly and systematically. Use three (3) decimal points. NO
SOLUTION, NO POINT.

Situation 1: A projectile is fixed at a certain angle of 45° to reach a maximum range with velocity of 10
m/s. (a) what is the time to reach the ground surface? (b) What is the maximum height reached by
the projectile? (c) Determine the distance traveled by the projectile.

Situation 2: A ball is shot at a ground level at an angle of 60° with the horizontal with an initial velocity
of 100 m/s. Determine (a) the height of the ball after 2 seconds, (b) the resultant velocity of the ball
after 2 seconds, (c) the time will it take for the ball to hit the ground.

Situation 3: A stone has an initial velocity of 100 ft/s up to the right at 30° with the horizontal. Compute
(a) the time it would take until the stone reaches a point 60 ft below the original elevation, (b) the
horizontal distance covered until the stone reaches a point 60 ft below its original elevation, (c) the
velocity of the stone when it reaches 60 ft below the original elevation.
