(See our Site Security Plan)
Handling of work material on site (offloading and storage)
Adequate material handling technique shall be adopted to ensure no damage to
work material and as such the following shall be ensured:
(i) Only fit for purpose sling belt shall be used when lifting to avoid
damages to line pipes and its coatings. Also end caps must be used
to cover the pipe ends. When stringing line pipes along ROW, line
pipes shall be strung on top of sand bags and in such a way that
there will be no obstruction to other activities going on.
(ii) All valves, gasket, flanges, shrinkable sleeves, electrodes, cutting /
grinding discs, lifting accessories, paint, cement etc must be kept
properly in an enclosed container away from exposition to
moisture.

(iii) Most important provide constant security guard for the material
to avoid sabotage.
4.3 CUTTING, GRINDING AND WELDING: (Hot Work, Tack and Weld
Operation)

All surfaces to be Tack/welded shall be thoroughly cleaned and dried, free from
oxide, scale, oil or other foreign matter. All welding shall be done by qualified
welders in accordance with the welding procedures (welding procedure
specification (WPS), ANSI B 31.3 and ANSI B 31.8). The maximum misalignment
at any one point shall not exceed 1.6mm (1/16"). Prior to incorporation into the
final weld, tacks shall be visually inspected for cracks or other such flaws (i.e.
lack of penetration, porosity, etc). They shall be cleaned and ground to allow
complete incorporation into the final weld. Defective tack-welds shall be repaired
or replaced. Welds that are cut out or repaired because of defects shall have
appropriate non-destructive testing. Tack-welds shall be at least 10mm long, a
maximum length of 50mm is suggested, but is left to the discretion of the fitter.
Circumferential welds shall have a minimum of four tacks when possible. In
case of permanent tack-weld, welders shall tack using shield arc welding (SMAW)
process.

4.4 RADIOGRAPHY OF WELDED JOINTS: Visual inspection of the

welds shall be made as welding is being performed. Non-destructive
testing of welds using radiographic procedure, which exposes the full
circumference of the joint, shall take place following the completion of
the weld.
All the Welded joints shall be radio graphed (100%) using gamma ray
source according to requirements of the specification. The Radiographic
films shall be developed, read and graded as soon as possible by SPDC
inspector so that any unacceptable/ rejected joint will be repaired.
On completion of radiography and acceptance of the Joints, shrinkable
sleeves shall be installed on the joint.

4.5 FIELD JOINT COATING/

SLEEVING: SURFACE
PREPARATION l CLEANING
The field joint and exposed steel, including the adjacent pipe coating
shall be properly cleaned by power brushing to SA 2 1/2 standard to
remove rust and any foreign materials. The quality of the cleaned surface
shall be confirmed with a surface profile gauge.
PRE HEATING AND INSTALLATION OF SHRINKABLE SLEEVE
The cleaned joint area shall be pre heated with a propane torch to a
minimum temperature of 70°c. Pre-heating to the correct temperature
ensures proper bonding of the Raychem sleeve. Caution shall be
exercised not to damage the

9
existing adjacent polyethylene coating with the flame.
When the joint area has attained the minimum temperature of 70°c, the
sleeve shall be installed as follows:
(a) Remove the protective plastic from the coated Raychem sleeve.
(b) Centre the sleeve over the weld so that it evenly overlaps adjacent pipe
coating at least 50mm either ends.
(c) Wrap the sleeve around the pipe and press the over lapping closure
ends into in position.
(d) Using a yellow flame from a propane torch to heat the closure evenly
until the pattern of the fabric reinforcement is visible.
(e) With a roller, flatten smoothly the enclosed wrinkles by gently
pressing the sleeve outwards from the center of the closure.
(f) The sleeve shall be bonded around the pipe circumferentially
without any entrapped air allowed after the installation.

Overstressed. The pipe will be lowered directly into the trench such that it
conforms to and substantially supported by the ditch bottom.
Back filling of the pipe trench shall be mechanically done immediately after
lowering to prevent the pipe from moving in the trench. An approval for
backfilling shall be obtained from SPDC Site representative. In the backfilling
operation, the excavated material will be returned to the trench in layers and
compacted.
Allowance for subsequent settlement of the backfill will be made by
heaping up (crowing) the back-fill material along the trench line to a height
of between 200 and 300mm above the adjacent ground level.

4.6 FLUSHING AND PRESSURE TESTING:

On satisfactory completion of radiography of all welded joints, the
completed Flowline shall be Pressure tested to ensure it will operate at
the designed pressure without failing in service.
Prior to water filling and pressurizing, the entire line shall first of all be
cleaned by flushing with water using a flush pump passed through
temporary hose connections. Flushing shall be done from the flow
station end to the well head end.
NB Water Source: Water tankers shall be use to fetch clean water from
SPDC Water filling: After flushing the line to the satisfaction of SPDC
representative, the line shall be filled with water using a pump of
adequate capacity. Air shall be removed from the line during filling by
venting through bleeding valves.
Pressurization: Before pressure is built up on the line, all safety
precautions must be ensured and all fitting, test end and instruments
shall be well calibrated and certified safe.
Pressurization of the line shall be achieved with a pressure pump
pressurizing at a moderate constant rate and allowing resting time for
pressure stabilization.
The section shall be pressurized by pumping water into the line to raise
the pressure to the specified test pressure.
11
Pressure holding: On reaching the specified test pressure, the line
shall be left at this pressure for a period of twenty-four hours. During
this pressure holding stage, the ambient temperature, the pipeline water
temperature as well as the pressure will be recorded on a chart fitted to
a Barton recorder. (See details of pressure holdings in hydro test
procedure)

Depressurization / Dewatering: Upon completion of pressure testing,

the line shall be depressurized by gradually opening the vent/ valve and
letting off the water. After removal of water, compressed air shall be
pumped into the line to finally blow off any remaining water and dry the
line.
The Pressure testing shall be carried out in accordance with Shell DEP
and ENEL Flushing and hydro testing procedure.

4.7 INSTALLATION OF WORKS (BOLTING AND UNBOLTING)

The Hook- up, piping and all other item shall then be positioned, with
