MATH 4115: OPERATIONS RESEARCH

COURSE OUTLINE

1. PURPOSE

Operations Research course is intended to be an introductory course to beginners in OR.

2.0 EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, the learner should be able to:


i. Appreciate commonly used methods in operation research (OR).
ii. Use of OR in optimization problems (Maximization of output and minimization of
inputs).

4.0 COURSE EVALUATION
The course will be evaluated through Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) and final
semester examinations. The CATs will account for 30 marks while the final examination
will be worth 70 marks. There will be 2 CATs, the first will be done in Week 5 and the
second in Week 11. Each CAT will be worth 15 marks. The scores will be graded as
follows:
i. Cats/Assignments/Presentations: 30%
ii. Examination: 70%
Total 100%
The pass mark is 40 %
