INTRODUCTION
Social media which is major attraction in almost every student's life can sometimes become a
real distraction if not properly monitored. As a student it very hard to study with the presence of
social media since it can be a huge challenge. As the researcher prepares to write CSEC social
media has helped in maintaining study groups with peers as well as gathering the necessary
resources required for my success at the upcoming exams.

I have often seen students failed exams and choose social media over studying. It is with this
notion the researcher has formulated the objectives of this study. The objectives of this project
are as follows:

1. To determine whether students spend more time on social media than studying in form 5 at
Camille’s Academy?
2. To find out what is the preferred social media app by these students of Camille’s Academy

3. To determine if social media can enhance studying for these students of Camille’s academy

As prospective teachers the researchers have often wondered what can be done to assist students
who are more inclined to social media when compared to studying. The researcher of this
project hopes that the information gathered can be used to remedy this problem.

METHOD OF COLLECTING DATA


The technique for gathering data will be the questionnaire method. The necessary pertinent
information would be gathered using this technique. Because it will be easier to collect the
necessary information using this method, it was chosen. A huge number of responses can be
gathered quickly and affordably, and enormous amounts of data can be gathered from them.
Respondents may lose the questionnaire or decide not to answer particular questions because
they may view them as personal, which is one disadvantage of using the questionnaire.

There will be handed to the same number of students a total of twenty (20) questionnaires, each
with fifteen (15) questions. For roughly three days, the respondents would have to answer the
questions. Following data analysis, the information will be shown on the appropriate graphs and
charts.

Dear Respondent,

In order to find out whether students in form 5 who attend school spend more
time on social media than studying, a survey for the mathematics School Based Assessment
(SBA) is being conducted. On the question are the directions for how to respond to the questions.
Since your identities are not necessary, kindly therefore provide honest response. The objectives
of this research are:
1. To determine whether students spend more time on social media than studying in form 5 at
Camille’s Academy?

2. To find out what is the preferred social media app by these students of Camille’s Academy

3. To determine if social media can enhance studying for these students of Camille’s academy

ANALYSIS OF DATA
After carefully examining the data on whether or not students spend more time on social
media than studying, it is clear that the majority of students were in agreement that they did, as
shown by the tallest bar. Only a handful of them chose maybe, and several chose no.

After analysing the information provided on the most popular social media app, it is clear
that most students like WhatsApp, which is represented by the biggest percentage on the pie
chart, while snap chat is the social media app that they use the least. The pie chart also shows
that 20% of students each used Facebook and Instagram.

DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS
Based on the analysis of data the following findings can be formulated:

 The vast majority of students agreed that using social media takes more time than
studying, with only one student expressing uncertainty.

 The social media platforms that are used are Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and
Snapchat. WhatsApp is the social networking platform that is most regularly used. The
majority of the pie chart's area corresponds to this.

CONCLUSION
The goals of this SBA were to determine the most popular social media apps and whether
students spend more time on social media than studying. Without a doubt, students do spend
more time on social media than they do studying, with WhatsApp being the most popular social
media app.
