146 reviews I am teaching two of my students phonics at the moment. I was very happy when I received this book.
· As an educator, I found this book to be overall helpful for ideas. Here are my findings.

Follow Pros:
- Similar to Montessori, this book allows the students to read well before learning the alphabet. By
combining both consonants and vowels, the student can experiment and read at a very fast pace.
- This book teaches the educator fun hints to help the children remember the letters and their sounds.
- I loved how there are reviews that include sounding out the letters leading to reading words.

Cons:
- I am not a fan of sight words. While I know it is important to memorize words that cannot be spelled, I
was sad to see a phonics book containing sight words that were phonetically correct. This defeats the
purpose of phonics.
- Some of the words were not in line with the idea of the book. For example, while teaching blends, I
noticed the word blue spelled out. This was fine, as it was the bl blend, but not fine because it had the
ue vowels. I am a firm believer if you teach the kids, do it right the first time and do not mix skills until
they have learned it well.

My Overall Opinion:
I think this book is an amazing guide for the parent. As an educator, I learned a lot and got some great

idea that I can use with my students. However, this is not a book I will be following closely as there
were some skills out of line with the correct skills introduced with this book.

1,039 reviews Lessons follow an I do, we do, you do lesson format. One letter at a time is introduced. What I liked
about this activity book is the sequence of letters introduced is done so that children can start to blend

together simple words. It’s not done in ABC format. They can start to read an actual word (i.e. am, sit,
rat) by the 10th lesson. Sight words and word family lessons are also throughout this book. Given that
all children progress at different pace, the book gives indicators to determine whether the child needs
a faster or slower pace. I think this is a wonderful activity book for pre-beginner and beginner readers.
Fun activities that young children will engage in and enjoy.
