Cornerstone College is an open combined school, which aims at the highest educational and
ethical standards. We are registered with the Gauteng Department of Education (220582) and
we are a registered examination centre. We are accredited by Umalusi, the Council for Quality
Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, accreditation number 17 SCH01
00254.
CURRICULUM
The national CAPS syllabi are followed in all subjects and grades. The pupils are taught in English.
The matriculants write their final examinations in October and November 2024.
Subjects offered for Grades R to 3 (Foundation Phase) follow the Department of Basic
Education (DBE) guidelines.
The Grade 4 – 6 learners (Intermediate Phase) are obliged by the DBE to take the following
subjects:

• Afrikaans Technology (including computers)
• Mathematics • Life-Skills (Creative Arts, Phys. Ed.,
• Social Sciences (History & Geography) Personal well-being)
The Grade 7 - 9 learners are obliged by the DBE to take the following subjects:

The Purple Mash (Grades R – 7), Mathletics and Lector Reading (Grades 8 – 9) computerised
courses are compulsory.

Conditional upon previous year’s marks/entrance tests could apply
Grade 10 - 12 learners have a choice of 7 subjects, 2 of which must be languages, including a Home
Language. Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy AND Life Orientation are compulsory.
Learners who do not meet the expectations of a certain grade/subject will be moved to a more
appropriate grade/subject. New learners may be interviewed before registration.
Please make sure that you collect the list of compulsory stationery requirements upon registration.
BOARDING SCHOOL
We offer limited, supervised boarding facilities for well-behaved learners in Grades 7 to 12. Please ask
for the Hostel Prospectus.
LEARNER-TEACHER RATIO
To ensure personal attention for each learner, our classes are smaller than the national average.
Please note that a specific grade or subject will be introduced and continued only if an acceptable
minimum number of pupils is assured.

Primary School new parents’ orientation and new learners’ welcome party (Grades R – 7): Monday
15 January 2024 at 9:00am in the primary school hall.
High School new parents’ orientation (Grades 8 – 12): Friday 12 January 2024 at 2:00pm in the high
school hall.
UNIFORM:
GIRLS AND BOYS (Grades R to 3)
Plain navy blue PT shorts° (summer), grey school slacks° or trousers° (not skinny, winter), school golf
shirt*, school tracksuit*, white ankle socks° (girls), long grey socks° (boys), black school shoes° or
black takkies°. Grey school jersey°, sleeveless pullover*, School tracksuit* in winter (with plain
black/white running shoes° or black school shoes°), or green Drimac*.

Grey jerseys° or sleeveless pullovers*, blazers* or green Drimacs* are compulsory in winter. Beanies*,
scarves* and gloves* are available for cold weather. A selection of optional uniform alternatives* will
be offered in 2024.
A fully reinforced school bag° or hard case° is compulsory in order to protect the school’s
textbooks. Textbooks will be confiscated if they are not cared for correctly.

° These items are not available from the school and must be purchased separately.
APPLICATION:
To apply to join our school fill in the application form, read the Procedures Brochure carefully, sign two
contracts and submit them with the application fee, application form, and subject choice form. Please
also provide the originals of the ID documents of the parent and child, the pupil’s latest report, the
transfer letter and testimonial from the previous school and the study permit (if applicable). Copies will
be made by the administration staff for the school’s records.
The application is not successful until the originals of the above documents and the final end of year
report have been approved by the Principal, the parent and child have attended the Orientation Session
and the paperwork has been properly completed and signed by the parent or court-appointed guardian.
Registrations are not valid if there is an unpaid debt at a previous school or hostel. Incorrect,
incomplete or misleading details or an undisclosed debt at a previous school or hostel will render the
registration and contract null and void.
Admission, the Grade offered and the subject choices (Grades 8 – 12) are at the sole discretion of the
Principal.
No learner may choose a subject which he/she has failed in the previous year.

The sibling rate is applied to the fees of the older sibling, on application. Children of past Matriculants
of Cornerstone College also qualify for the sibling rate, on application.
We reserve the right to change the fees if the GDE subsidy is not paid to the school for any reason
whatsoever.
STUDY PERMITS FOR CORNERSTONE COLLEGE VALID FOR THE WHOLE YEAR ARE
ESSENTIAL FOR FOREIGN LEARNERS, BEFORE ARRIVAL AND BEFORE THE FIRST
DAY OF SCHOOL.
REGISTRATION FOR 2024:
Grades R - 12: From June 2023 to March 2024 or when classes are full.
Registration lapses after 5 days of non-arrival after the first day of school or date of registration
(if registration is after the first day of school).
