2 The unpardonable Sin

3 In a tent meeting being held in a Jacksonville, Florida, while the

speaker was making his presentation, the lights being off because
he was showing slides, a couple walked in. The speaker could tell
by their forms that it was a man and a woman.

4 As soon as the speaker finished with the subject, the couple ran out
of the tent. When he inquired about them, no one had seen them
before. The following night they returned early. It was then that
the speaker noticed that both were body builders. They sat and
listened to the speaker and this time left at the same time as the
other attendees. The third night they sat closer to the front and
listened with great interest. When the speaker appealed for anyone
who wanted to respond to go forward to the altar, both husband and
wife responded. With tears streaming down their faces, the man
asked the pastor, “Can God forgive me.”

5 “Yes,” the pastor said. “How do you know? The man questioned.
“You don’t know who I am and what I have done.” The pastor
responded, “It is true, but I know who God is, and what he can do.
What have you done that you think God can’t forgive you? “I have
killed 3500 people!”
“How did you kill 3500 people? “I grew up an atheist.” The man
began. “My father was an atheist and hired killer. After he killed
someone, he would hide. I hated that. I determined that I would

Page 1

figure out how to kill without having to hide.”

“When I was 17, I decided to join the army. I became a helicopter
pilot and volunteered for Vietnam. When I arrived, I volunteer for
every search ad destroy mission. It was then that I counted 3500
bodies that I destroyed. I never had any remorse or sorrow for
what I did until I came to this tent meeting. “Now, what do I do?”

6
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

7 “How can I believe that?” The man asked. “Because God has
declared it!” The pastor responded. “What do I need to do?” He
asked. “Just kneel down and with a repentant heart tell Him you
are sorry, and ask Him to forgive you.” The pastor replied.
Both men and the wife sank to their knees and prayed. Yes, if we
confess our sins.

8
God invites all to go to Him. In Revelation 22:17 we read: “And
the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears
say, “Come!…”

9
“…And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take
the water of life freely.”

10
In Matthew 12:31, 32 Jesus made a statement in reference to

Page 2

forgiveness that shocked the people of his day. He said:
“Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be
forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be
forgiven men.”

11
“Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be
forgiven him; but whoever…”

12
“…speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him,
either in this age or in the age to come.”

Some people wonder what kind of sin could this be?

13
The unpardonable sin is not:
Killing — Moses and Paul. Exodus 2:11, 12; Acts 26:10, 11.
Adultery – David 2 Samuel 12:9
Cursing – Peter Matthew 26:73, 74

14

Killing

15
“Now it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown,
that he went out to his brethren and…”

Page 3

16
“…looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian beating a
Hebrew, one of his brethren.”

17
“This I also did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I shut up
in prison, having received authority…”

18
“…From the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I
cast my vote against them…”

19
“…And I punished them often in every synagogue and
compelled them to blaspheme.”

20
Adultery

21
“Why have you despised the commandment of the Lord, to do
evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the

sword.”

22
Cursing

23
“And a little later those who stood by came up and said to
Peter, “Surely you also are one of them, for your speech betrays
you…”

24
“…Then he began to curse and swear, saying, “I do not know
the Man!” Immediately a rooster crowed.”

25
Jesus said it is a sin against the Spirit. Therefore, in order to
understand this question we should first consider who or what the
Holy Spirit is.

26
When speaking to a man named Nicodemus Jesus sought to open
his mind to the miraculous experience of conversion. Since
Nicodemus did not understand Jesus’ explanation, He then used an
illustration from nature to open his understanding..

27

Page 5

“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it,
but cannot tell…”

28
“…where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who
is born of the Spirit.”

29
Here Jesus compared the Spirit to the wind. You can’t see it, but
you can tell it is there by its effect. You can see things moving by
reason of the wind, or hear the sound of it.

30 Some people do not know anything about the Spirit; they are
strangers to divine influences. Still others are taught, or assume
that it is like an electrical current or essence, or some element like
the wind.

Yet, Jesus makes too many statements to arrive at the conclusion.

Notice the many different characteristics Jesus states concerning
the Holy Spirit or sometimes called the Holy Ghost.

He is called: God: Jesus refers to Him as “He”; he is able to

comfort, teach, testify, reproof people of their wrong doings or
thoughts, able to guide, He can hear, and speak.

31
He shows, or reveals, he commands, can be grieved (therefore has
feelings), can be sinned against, can be quenched from the heart,
can brings things to our rememberance, He makes intercession for

Page 6

us, able to give us power, and He is able to witness. In fact, He is
the One that led and directed the New Testament church.

32
Tis in this sense that Jesus uses a nature illustration in John 3:8.
There are many things in our world that we cannot see. We can’t
see electricty, but when there is a spark, or we turn on the lights, we
know that it is present. We can’t see gravity, but when we see
something fall, we know that gravity is causing that fall. We can’t
not see viruses, or bacteria, but when we get the flu, or a cold we
know that they are making us sick. So is the Holy Spirit.

33 You can’t see Him, but when your conscience is troubling you, or
you feel guilty, or when you sense that you should not do
something wrong, or are reminded that you should do something
undone, then though you know He is present.

34
We find an excellent example of this in the Bible. Let’s us look at
Acts 10:19, 20.
“While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him,
“Behold, three men are seeking you…”

35
“…Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting
nothing; for I have sent them.”

Page 7

36 In verses 1 and 2 of this chapter we are told that a Roman
Centurion was praying. Let’s look at it. If you have your Bibles,
turn there. Notice that it says that he was a non-Jew, an Italian. It
also says he was devote and prayed to God continually. While he
is praying he sees a vision (verses 3 and 4). He is then told to go
and find Peter who is in Joppa (see verses 5, 6). He immediately
sends his servant and soldier to find Peter (verses 7, 8).
Since these are non-Jews and Peter still holds on to the idea that
only Jews can be saved, God also gives him a vision. So, while the
servants are on their way to Peter he is shown unclean beasts
(verses 9-12). He is commanded to kill and eat (verse 13). Peter
refuses because Jesus never ate them, and as a Jew he grew up
never eating them (verse 14). Then the voice says, “What God has
cleanse, that call not thou common” (verse 15).
Peter was bewildered and confused. What could the vision mean?
See verse 17. While he was thinking about the vision, the three
men show up at the place where he is staying. It is then that the
Spirit tells Peter to go not asking any questions. It was He who
had sent the men. Please notice and don’t miss the point. This is
the Holy Spirit speaking to Peter. He is the third Person of the
Godhead.

37
Speaking of the Spirit Christ said in John 14:26: “But the Helper,
the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name…”

38

“…He will teach you all things, and bring to your

remembrance all things that I said to you.”

39

In John 16:8 He said: “And when He has come, He will convict

Page 8
End Time Message From Jesus – Vol 4
09. The unpardonable Sin
the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.”

40

In verse 13 He said, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has

come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on
His own authority…”

41
“…but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you
things to come.”

42
Notice! It is the Holy Spirit that enables us to understand spiritual
things. Without Him we would not be able to know what is right
and what is wrong. Without him we would not be able to have a
conscience. Without Him we would never be able to understand
the Bible.

43
Listen to what Paul wrote in Ephesians 1:17, 18: “That the God
of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you
the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him…”

44

“…the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you

may know what is the hope of His calling…”

Page 9

45

“…what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the

saints.”

46 Now that we know that the Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the
Godhead, and not just an essense, How does a person commit the
sin against Him?
There are several examples in the scriptures that help us to
understand.
1. People stuck in tradition unwilling to change: “You stiff-
necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist
the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.”
Acts 7:51

47
2. Hardening the heart against His ways and leadings:

“Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His
voice…”

48

“…Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,

In the day of trial in the wilderness.”
Hebrews 3:7, 8

49

Judas—avarice, extreme greed for wealth or material gain.

50

Page 10
End Time Message From Jesus – Vol 4

4. Ananias and Sapphira: Trying to cover up something wrong

knowing that God is displeased. “But Peter said, “Ananias, why
has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep
back part of the price of the land for yourself?” Acts 5:3

51 One of the saddest stories in the Old Testament of someone sinning

against the Holy Spirit is found in 1 Samuel 10. God had called
him to be the first king of Israel.
Let’s us turn there. We read: 1 Samuel 10:9,10
”So it was, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel,
that God gave him another heart; and all those signs came to
pass that day…”

52
“…When they came there to the hill, there was a group of
prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him,
and he prophesied among them.”

53 God not only called him to be king, He changed his heart. But he
had an incurigable spirit. God would ask him to do something, and
he would do something else. When rebuked, he could never take
the blame or responsibility. He always put the blame on someone
else. With this attitude, God could never correct him. This bent on
not taking correction led God to declare him in rebellion.

54
God warned him in 1 Samuel 15:23. The Prophet said: “For
rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as
iniquity and idolatry…”

55
“…Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has
rejected you from being king…”

Page 11
End Time Message From Jesus – Vol 4
09. The unpardonable Sin

56 Even after this, he would not listen. Finally, we find one of the
saddest passages of Scripture in the Bible.
In 1 Samuel 16:14 we read “…But the Spirit of the Lord
departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the Lord
troubled him.”

57
Once the Spirit departed from Saul he could no longer repent.
Without repentance there is no forgiveness. Saul was left to
continue stubbornly down the path to destruction. He ended up
taking his own life, and went to a Christless dark ending. The Bible
record is found in 1 Chronicles 10:13:

58
”So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed
against the Lord,…”

59
”…because he did not keep the word of the Lord, and also
because he consulted a medium for guidance.”

60 This is a very important teaching because unfortunately, my

friends, there are people today who are teaching that: “Once you
are saved, you are always saved.”
How many of you have heard that teaching? It is not biblical.
What did I say? It is not biblical. Here is a perfect example. Let

Page 12
End Time Message From Jesus – Vol 4
09. The unpardonable Sin
me ask you again. Did this man receive the Spirit of God? What is
the answer? Was he converted? What is the answer? When you
have a new heart given to you what is that called in New
Testament? “Born again.” Was this man born again, yes or no?
Was he converted? Yes. Did he have the Spirit of God come upon
him? Yes! Did the Spirit of God leave him? Yes! Very sad thing.
In fact, the scripture says that this man died lost. How could it be
that the man who receives the Spirit of God can end up being lost?
Notice it says “So Saul died for his transgression which he
committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD,
which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a
familiar spirit, to enquire of it; ”But he did not inquire of the
Lord; therefore He killed him, and turned the kingdom over to
David the son of Jesse.”

61 Here is what the Bible says about people who turn away from the
Spirit in Hebrews 6:4-6:”For it is impossible for those who were
once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have
become partakers of the Holy Spirit…”

62
”…and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the
age to come…”

63
“…if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since
they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him
to an open shame.”

64 Notice what the Bible says in Ephesians 4:30. ”And do not grieve
the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of
redemption.”
In other words, if you refuse the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit cannot

Page 13
End Time Message From Jesus – Vol 4
09. The unpardonable Sin
make you what you ought to be so that you can be preserved for
eternity.

65 So, it is the Spirit of God then that enables you to change and
become all that God wants you to be. What do you say? It is
through the Spirit of God that the sacrifice of Christ becomes
efficacious. In other words, it is capable of doing something for us
because the Spirit of God enables that to happen. So, all that Christ
does, all that Christ taught comes to us through the channels of the
Holy Spirit, and as the Spirit of God quickens our thinking, (that
means make alive our thinking), then we see the light and then we
can now rejoice in the light.

66 Here is a world of woes that have been indicative of things that

have happened all throughout the world. They are highlighted by
these red or blue, etc. dots. Okay. So, it is happening everywhere,
natural hazards. You can see how many natural hazards are
highlighted by all of these different points.
Now, as far as earthquakes are concerned, I want you to know what
is taking place with earthquakes.

67 There are two ways that we can sin against the Holy Ghost. One is
the sin of commission and the other one is the sin of omission.
What do we mean by that? There are things that God says “Do”,
and there are things that God says “Do not do.” Correct? So, Jesus
says when He comes the second time, He says to one group, “Well
done good and faithful servant because I was hungry and you gave
me food to eat. I was naked and you gave me clothing and all
that.” And the fellow says, “Lord when did I see you naked?
When did I see you hungry?” And Jesus says, “Well, as much as
you did it unto one of these, you have done it unto me. Enter thou
into the joy of thy Lord.”.

68
King Saul had the Spirit; he had tasted the good things of God and

Page 14
End Time Message From Jesus – Vol 4
09. The unpardonable Sin
was a man that God had given a new heart to. Yet, this man turned
his back on God and God finally removed the Spirit from him. So,
notice again that you can quench the Spirit. That is why it says,
“Quench not the Spirit of God.” That means that you can refuse
Him.

69 Maybe you remember the earthquake in Japan in 2011? People who

live on Guam were very worried when they heard of the earthquake
and the possible Tsunami. How many of you saw the news and the
pictures of that horrible situation where the ocean just came up
over?

70 There was a man who professed to be a Christian. He felt that his

boss was not paying him enough. The company made copper nails.
He decided to make up for the loss by taking copper nails home.
One day an evangelist held a revival in his hometown. The man
attended. One night in particular he heard the preacher speaking
about stealing. He quoted from the Ten Commandments the
following Commandment: “Thou shall not steal.” The man became
so convicted that he went to the preacher and said, “Look, I got a
problem.

“I have been trying to witness to my boss, but he is as hard as nails.

In fact, the company that that I work for makes nails, copper nails.”
Then he said, “But I feel terrible. The man is a miser and a
cheapskate. He has not really been paying me what he should.
And so, I have been making up for it by taking nails home. Now I
realize that I have been stealing, and I should not be doing that.
What should I do?” The preacher said, “Then you better go make it
right with the man.”

71
“Oh no!” He said. “If I go tell him that I have been stealing all this
time, and at the same time I have been telling him that he should be
a Christian, that he should follow God and all that, that man will

Page 15
End Time Message From Jesus – Vol 4
09. The unpardonable Sin
have no use for my religion.” The preacher said, “Look, you have
been stealing, go make it right with the man.” The man began to
tremble and said, “I cannot do it!” The preacher said, “Do you
want to be at peace with God?” He said, “Yes!” “Go make it right
with that man.”

72 That fellow finally got his courage up and said to his boss, “I need
to talk to you.” “Yes, what do you want?” He said, “I want to
confess to you that I have been stealing nails from you for a long
time.” The man said, “I knew that! I knew you were doing that.
That is why I have no use for you Christians!” And the man said,
“Well listen, I attended a meeting last night and I became so
convicted about what I was doing wrong that I decided to make it
right with you. I am sorry, forgive me. I will never steal another
nail from you.” The man said, “Where is it that you went to?” He
said, “Well, I went to these meetings and that is where I heard
this.” He said, “Well, look, maybe I ought to go there, too, and
learn something myself.”

73 Friends, listen. When the Spirit of God convicts you to do right,

you ought to do it. What do you say? When people do not respond
to the Spirit of God, they either commit the sin of commission or
the sin of omission. Listen to what Stephen said to the people in
his day in Acts 7:51: “You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in
heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your
fathers did, so do you.”

74
What is the sin against the Holy Ghost? It is resisting. As God
prompts you to do something and you choose not to do it, you are
resisting the Holy Spirit. As God prompts you not to do something
and you do it, you are resisting the Holy Spirit. In other words,

Page 16
End Time Message From Jesus – Vol 4
09. The unpardonable Sin
whether God tells you not to do it or to do it, whichever way it is, if
the Spirit of God is convicting you, you see it plainly in the Word
of God, the counsel is clear, you know what God is telling you,
then if you yield to the Spirit of God, difficult as it may be, you
will find the victory and you will also find the peace.

75 How many of you have clocks that have a snooze button? Any of
you? How many of you have decided that you needed to wake up
at a certain time. You set the alarm, but when it rang, you pushed
that snooze button? How many of you woke up an hour later rather
than five minutes later? Any of you? Have you ever gotten so used
to turning off your alarm clock that pretty soon you do not hear it
anymore?
I try to make sure that I respond to that alarm clock when it sounds,
because I know the danger. If you get used to turning it off, and
turning it off, it gets to the place where you do not hear it anymore.
Is that true?

The sin against the Holy Spirit is committed when the individual
who knows what is right, and persistently continues to disregard
the voice of God, becomes used to turning off that voice. The
conscience becomes seared. God continues to speak, but our ears
become dull of hearing. The sin against the Holy Ghost…
When heaven is pleased to bring us light, we are encouraged to
walk in it. Jesus said in John 12:35: “Yet a little while is the light
with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon
you: for he that walks in darkness knows not whither he goes.
36While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the
children of light.” Failure to walk in the light God brings us, leads
to darkness and confusion

76
The same is true with sin. When God convicts us of our wrong, He
does so with the intent of forgiving us, and giving us victory over
it. But when we deny, or seek to cover up our sins, we demonstrate
that our sins are more precious to us then the salvation offered.
That is why He says in Proverbs 28:13: “He who covers his sins

Page 17
End Time Message From Jesus – Vol 4
09. The unpardonable Sin
will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will
have mercy.”

77 God did not send his son into world to condemn the world, but that
the world through him might be saved. He is very patient and
merciful. That is why He says in James 4:17: “Therefore, to him
who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

78 In the city of Chicago evangelist Dwight Moody was holding a

series of evangelistic meetings. One particular night he made a
lengthy appeal. IN the back he could see a well-dressed man
sitting. He could tell by the way that the man was struggling that
the Spirit was speaking to him. But he did not move or respond to
the call.
When the meeting ended and pastor Moody was bidding good night
to the attendees, he noticed the young man trying to make his exit
unnoticed. Pastor Moody reached out and caught him by his arm.
“Young man, began pastor Moody, why don’t you give your heart
to God tonight?” “Oh, please, Mr. Moody, I plan to do that.”
“Why don’t you do it right here and now?” Pastor Moody
suggested. “Oh no Mr. Moody. I am kind of a bashful person.
Please, I promise I will do it, but not now in front of all these
people.” “Promise me that you will do it. Said pastor Moody. “I
will. I promise you!”
At this the Young business man went out the door.
Several weeks later Pastor Moody was walking down the streets of
Chicago and met the young businessman. “Young man, aren’t you
that young man that attended my meetings a few weeks ago? He
asked. “Yes, I am. Great to see you again.” The young man
responded. “Well, what abut your promise? Have you given your
heart to God?” Pastor Moody asked.
“Well to be honest, I have just gotten too busy. Business has
picked up so much that I have not even had to scratch my head.”
He responded. “Well, why don’t you do it just now, right here?
Moody encouraged. “Right here, I can’t do it right here with all

Page 18
End Time Message From Jesus – Vol 4
09. The unpardonable Sin
those people walking around. Please Mr. Moody, I promise you
that I will do it, but not here and now. Listen, I must go.” And with
that, he turned and went his way.

79 Several months later at midnight there was a knock on Pastor

Moody’s door. He woke up and went to the door to see who was
there. “Pastor Moody, I have come with an urgent message that
you make your way as fast as possible to a young man who is
dying. The parents requested I come and take you to them.
After he was dressed, both men made their way to a dock and got in
a boat. They made their way to an island in the lake. Once at the
dock, the man rushed pastor Moody to the parents. They then took
him to the bedside of the dying man. To pastor Moody’s surprise it
was the young businessman. It was obvious to pastor Moody that
he did not have much time. Bending close to the man’s ear he said,
“young man, this is pastor Moody. Give your heart to God now.”
But there was no response. Again, pastor Moody said, “Young
man, give your heart to God now. He will take you if you do it
now while live lingers.” But again there was no response.

80 Then, while looking down at the young man he noticed his lips
moving. Anxious to hear what the man was saying he bent low and
placed his ear close to the moving lips. Sadness gripped the pastor
Moody. The young man was repeating a Bible passage. Here is
what he was saying: “The harvest is past, the summer is ended,
And we are not saved!”

81 Oh friend, don’t allow the harvest of your life to pass. If God has
in mercy brought you new light and truth, then why not decide to
walk in that light. If God has convicted you of some sin to
abandon, why not do it now? Grieve not the Holy Spirit. Walk in
the light while you have the light, lest darkness come upon you.
God says, “Today, if you will hear his voice.” Is God’s Spirit

Page 19

speaking to you? Then why not decide just now. Will you lift up
your hand to heaven and in faith tell God that you are sorry, you
will abandon that sin. Or, you will walk in the light God has been
pleased to give you. Will you do it now?
