Interpretation(s)
Note: The percentage counting of each type of differential leucocytes does not indicate correctly their absolute increase or decrease,
hence as per recommendation of the International Council for Standardization in Hematology the differential leucocyte counts are
reported as absolute number of each cell type per unit volume of blood.

SEROLOGY

*DENGUE COMBO SCREEN, RAPID, SERUM

DENGUE SPECIFIC ANTIBODIES, IGG NOT DETECTED NOT DETECTED
DENGUE SPECIFIC ANTIBODIES, IGM NOT DETECTED NOT DETECTED
DENGUE NS1 ANTIGEN DETECTED NOT DETECTED
METHOD : IMMUNOCHROMATOGRAPHY
Interpretation(s)
Dengue fever is a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes and caused by four serotypes of dengue virus (DEN): DEN-1, DEN-2,
DEN-3, and DEN-4. Since IgM antibodies are detectable only after 3-5 days of infection, hence detection of antibodies is not very
suitable for diagnosis of early phase of infection. It has been found that the NS1 antigen is present in high concentrations in
patient’s sera during the early clinical phase of the disease. Combined detection of NS1 antigen, IgG and IgM antibodies in single
step helps for early and differential diagnosis of primary and secondary dengue infection.

Method of testing: Rapid Immunochromatographic method

Note: Rapid chromatographic card test is a screening test for Dengue antigen & antibodies . The results are provisional and the
diagnosis of acute dengue infection should be confirmed by an ELISA method for Dengue NS1 ( IM013 )/ Dengue IgM ( IM 012
)/ Dengue IgG ( IM 011 )/ ELISA for NS1, Dengue Ig G and Dengue Ig M ( P 034 ).

MICROBIOLOGY

*WIDAL TEST, SERUM

S. TYPHI O ANTIBODY TITRE 1:40 < 1:80 TITRE
S. TYPHI H ANTIBODY TITRE 1:40 < 1:80 TITRE
S. PARATYPHI AH ANTIBODY TITRE 1:40 < 1:80 TITRE
S. PARATYPHI BH ANTIBODY TITRE 1:40 < 1:80 TITRE
METHOD : AGGLUTINATION METHOD
Interpretation(s)
Test whereby bacteria causing typhoid fever are mixed with serum containing specific antibodies obtained from an infected individual.
It is a presumptive serological test for enteric fever or undulant fever. Test results need to be interpreted carefully in the light of
past history of enteric fever, typhoid vaccination, and the general level of antibodies in the populations in endemic areas of the
world. A single Widal test is of little clinical relevance due to the number of cross reacting infections, including malaria. If no other
tests (either bacteriologic culture or more specific serology) are available, a fourfold increase in the titer (e.g., from 1:40 to 1:160)
in the course of the infection would be consistent with a typhoid infection.
