COMPUTER

goodafternoon everyone, i will be discussing to you, the computer in information age,

but first, what is a computer?

A computer is basically an electronic device that stores and processes information by

following instructions, like a recipe for solving problems or getting tasks done. In the Information Age,
computers are important because they help us handle huge amounts of data really fast. Think about
things like sending emails, managing your bank account, or even doing scientific research—computers
make all that possible. They're the backbone of modern life, keeping everything from communication
to productivity running smoothly.

TYPES OF COMPUTER

-Computers come in all shapes and sizes, and people often describe them based on their size,
purpose, or power. While almost any device with a microprocessor can be called a "computer," most
of us think of it as something we interact with using a mouse or keyboard. We give it instructions, it
processes the information, and then displays the results on a screen.

PERSONAL COMPUTER PC-A Personal Computer (PC) is a device designed for use by a single
person. It was originally called a "microcomputer" because it was a fully functional computer but
much smaller compared to the large systems used by businesses. PCs brought computing power to
individuals, making it possible for people to perform tasks like word processing, gaming, and
managing personal finances at home or in the office. Over time, PCs became essential tools for
everyday activities, from communication and entertainment to professional work.

DESKTOP COMPUTER- A desktop computer is a type of PC designed to stay in one place, like
a home office or a work desk. Unlike laptops, it’s not portable. For example, many people use desktop
computers for tasks like video editing, gaming, or running office software. A more advanced version of
the desktop is a workstation, which is ideal for high-demand tasks such as 3D modeling, graphic
design, or game development. Desktops typically offer more storage and power than laptops, making
them perfect for users who need that extra capability.

LAPTOPS- Laptops are portable computers that pack all the key features of a desktop into a
compact, battery-powered device. They’re larger than a typical hardcover book but still easy to carry
around. Laptops are often called notebooks because of their slim, lightweight design. For example,
students and professionals use laptops for tasks like writing papers, making presentations, or working
remotely, as they offer the convenience of portability without sacrificing functionality. They’re perfect
for on-the-go use, whether you're working, traveling, or attending meetings.

PERSONAL DIGITAL ASSISTANTS(PDA’s)- Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) are compact

computers that usually don't have keyboards and instead rely on touchscreens for input. They're
smaller than a paperback book, lightweight, and run on batteries, making them very portable. PDAs
were popular for tasks like managing contacts, calendars, and notes before smartphones became
widespread. They were perfect for people on the go who needed quick access to information and
simple computing tasks without the bulk of larger devices.

SERVERS- A server is a special type of computer designed to provide services to other

computers over a network. It typically has powerful processors, a lot of memory, and large hard drives
to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Other types of servers include file servers, which store and
manage files for network users, and game servers, which host online multiplayer games. Servers are
crucial for businesses and organizations as they enable efficient data management, communication,
and resource sharing across the network.
MAINFRAMES- Mainframes are massive computer systems that can take up an entire room
and are primarily used by large organizations for processing vast amounts of data and handling
millions of transactions every day. They were once commonly referred to as "mainframes," but the
term "enterprise server" is now more widely used. For example, banks and insurance companies often
rely on mainframes to manage their operations, as these machines can efficiently process
transactions and run complex applications. While some supercomputers function as single systems,
most are composed of multiple high-performance computers that work together as a unified system.

-WEARABLE COMPUTERS- Wearable computers are small devices that can be integrated into
everyday items like smartphones, smartwatches, and fitness trackers. These gadgets enable users to
perform common computing tasks such as managing databases, checking emails, accessing
multimedia, and organizing schedules—all from their wrist or other portable locations. Wearable
technology is becoming increasingly popular in health and fitness, communication, and convenience,
making it easier for people to stay connected and manage their daily activities on the go.
