1. Introduction
The course Economics and the Business Environment (F2.2) under Certified Public Account (CPA)
Foundation two level was taught between 20th September and 16th November 2024. The training was
done on Fridays 18:00-21:00 and Saturdays between 08:00 and 13:00hours. The site of training was
EAUR Nyagatare campus.
3. Training Methodology
Training of this course was 100% physical.
4. Training Outcome
On completion of the course, it was expected that students would be competent and able to:
• Explain economic concepts and terms and their uses and applications.
• Distinguish between Economics and other fields (Sociology, Ethics…)
• Explain the market environment and income determination.
2
• Analyze and discuss the impact of government policy and international economic institutions
on economic issues.
• Apply micro economic techniques to interpret and explain business and consumer behavior.
• Describe the modifying and opportunistic aspect of the particular market environment in
which a firm operates.
• Discuss and analyze the factors determining the contribution of various resources to the firm’s
revenue.
• Explain the upper and lower limits to income determination and the distribution of economic
rents.
• Explain the national economic parameters within which business is conducted.
• Discuss the interrelationship of the various sectors within the economy.
• Describe the factors governing the operation of financial institutions and the significance of
these for economic activity.
• Discuss the global forces that influence the open Rwandan economy.
During, the training, the major challenge encountered was some students were leaving/entering the
classroom half way through the lesson. This was mainly because they had academic courses going on
at the same time.
In order to overcome the challenges:
• Students were notified of the topics to be covered in the next class and encouraged to read
ahead.
• Students were encouraged to ask questions both during class time and after class, should there
arise any. The contact of the lecturer was shared with them in case there may be any
questions.
6. Recommendations
I recommend that:
• Classes be completed early enough so that students have time for their own revision

7. Conclusion
Finally, the course was done to completion despite the challenges mentioned. I thank all the students
who participated and the University for facilitating the whole activity of the training. Thank you.
