Q1. Where was the tiger cub hiding when grandfather found him?
The tiger cub was hiding among the intricate roots of a huge banyan tree
when grandfather found him.

Q2. i) What did Toto do to entertain Timothy?


Toto the mischievous monkey, used to pull Timothy’s tail to entertain
him.

ii) What did he do when Timothy lost his temper?


Whenever Timothy lost his temper, Toto used to climb up the
curtains.

Q3. “I became one of tiger’s favourites”. Who is “I” in the


statement? Why did he think so?
In the statement, “I” is referred to the narrator. The tiger had a specific
habit of stalking anyone he was fond of. When the narrator had come to
visit his grandparents, the tiger must have shown the same interest in
him, following him around after their day’s fun.

Q4. Where was Timothy most comfortable during the day?


During the day, Timothy was most comfortable on a long sofa in the
drawing room. He used to recline there with great dignity and snarl at
anyone who would try to disturb him.

Q5. What was grandmother’s prophecy about the cook? Did it


come true?
The Grandmother’s prophecy was that one day Timothy would be sitting
on Mahmoud’s bed with no sign of him but only his shoes and clothes,
indicating that Timothy would one day eat Mahmoud up. No, it never
came to that day however.

Q6. What made grandfather decide to transfer Timothy to the


zoo?
It was when Timothy was 6 months old; he gradually started losing his
friendliness and it was getting difficult to control him even with chains on.
And one of the main reasons why grandfather wanted him transferred to
the zoo was because they had noticed how Timothy started following
Mahmoud with a villainous motive.

Q7. Why did grandfather want Timothy to be put in another


enclosure?
According to grandfather’s observation in one of his visits, he found that
Timothy was being bothered by one of the leopard that was interned next
to his cage.

Q8. What shocked grandfather in the end?


Grandfather was shocked to know that the tiger whom he had been
stroking was not Timothy. Timothy had died two months back. He was
another tiger trapped in the hills and apparently, that tiger was very
dangerous.

Q1. How had Timothy changed with time?
Timothy grew into an adult tiger, and he became difficult to go for walk
with. People were scared of him. And he would always try to chase after
any animals they come across. He would relish over the poultry chickens
and there came a time when he also started following the cook with
villainous intent.

Q2. Why was grandfather eager to meet authorities?


Grandfather did not like that Timothy was scared by a leopard. Out of
concern, he wanted the authorities to change cage for Timothy.

Q3. What was the reaction of the grandfather on learning the


death of Timothy?
Grandfather was scared yet he gently bade goodbye to the tiger.

Q4. ‘Love begets love’. How far this phrase applies to the story?
Grandfather was fond of bringing home the deserted animals. Once he
brought a tiger cub. He fed it up with a milk bottle. The cub coexisted and
played with other animals, Toto, the monkey and a small mongrel puppy.
Until he became threat to his surrounding, he was kept at home. When an
unknown tiger was loved and patted by the grandfather, he was tamed as
well. He responded to the love.
Q5. What values of grandfather impressed you the most? Which
ones would you like to imbibe?
The narrator portrayed grandfather with an essence of humanity. His
generosity and kindness was the most impressive ones. He was caring
enough to meet Timothy even in zoo. He asked authorities to change his
cage because he was afraid of a leopard. His love and care impressed the
zoo authorities. They were scared of the dangerous tiger into a meek one
who allows an unknown man to pat and tickle his ears, had shocked them.
